I'm a muralist and home decor creator and I LOVE the mural Christopher Sale did. I can't tell what the colors are, but they have this sepia tone meets muted gray green to me. I love that look.

From a European perspective there are some specific takeaways here about New Yorkers. One is framing evidence of what they eat which seemed a recurring theme and really a bit odd (Hello Insta posts of "lunch"! Lol). Another is "The Gallery Wall"-thing. Which seems like what you do if you didn't grow up with art and don't really know how to hang it, or don't like it that much so you just bunch it all together on one little wall, a little bit like you're disturbed by art cohabiting throughout out your space more naturally, what's that about really? Another thing that I actuallt love about them is the make do with what you got- attitude, ie some smart- fixes to make kind of weird impractical kitchens look fine and function better, but also a love for style in the spaces that connects to the architecture or history somewhat. Another aspect I actually love and personally identify with is the thrifting and reimagining or refurbishing pieces, whether they be furniture, decor, artwork, fabric, that's enthusiam for designing an interesting space, and leads to the last take away I love, and thats the storytelling! Those Utah remakes on Ntfllx are my idea of horror tbh. Along with the dental caps. YEIKS. 😵 What I love about all these people generously sharing their homes, is the fact that everything they have has some story and meaning to them personally. That may in fact be a NYC thing in the US due to limited space, but honestly, that's what makes any space HOME. It's not the look and story it tells to visitors, it's the connection and authenticity that is just unmistakably there, accumulated over time, and an thus an embodiement of the minds and lives of the inhabitants, that totally transcends the need to actually explain. I also must add that the fact everyone had some actual artwork at home is nice to see. I'm in my 50s and worry about the entire world becoming more artless and less contextual every day.m in most aspects. Gotta love NewYorkers for reading books and art appreciation alone! Thanks for the tour! ❤

CHANGE UP: when you’re ready for a color refresh, try going with White / Navy / Orange, with pops of grass green, hot pink & black and lots of wicker / bamboo / natural fiber. It will scream Palm Beach or Boca and just be SO fun!!! And don’t forget to do as much heavy fringe and lacquered finishes as you can stand…. just don’t over do mirrors with that color palette so you avoid looking like a carnival fun house!!!

Everyone of these apartments, looks more or less the same, as do their renters (white people only in NYC😮). Also, diy? It was all expensive regardless. Sorry, this gets a c- from me.
