Slip leads though can be difficult with a reactive dog. We have a female Doberman that is very reactive and loose lead just did not work.

Your threshold tip is the best peice of advice and the wait when you feed and the break command. So valuable. Oh and the "leave it" command. Everything else is easy after these. My Cane Corso girl will be 2 in June. She is beautiful.

My Neo walked beside me loose leash automatically at 8 weeks he wouldn't leave my side when outside. He still walks that way with me as an adult dog without a leash. Neopolitans are definitely the definition of velcro dogs

But have you the skills to communicate and train a dog without use of a slip collar or slip lead?

prong or martingale collar but remember one tool might not work you can start from a martingale as a example and if it does not work and the go to a slip lead if that does not work go to a prong collar though prong collar is the most effective of all of them but remember the herm sprenger are the best and safest one out there

​@@PenguinsTechStuff But those are all forms of torture for the dog inflicting a degree of a sharp shock to the neck. My question was if this trainer and others are that good could they get the same results by just building a bond with the dog and use of a normal collar and lead. I'm no trainer or behaviorist but have paid hundreds of pounds just to sit and listen to these trainers waffle about what adjustments we need to make to the house, to not taking him out or the house garden or to outside fields all of which I think was absolute crap. We are now seeing positive results walking to heel using a normal lead and collar just using some high value treats. So my thought is if these guys are so good surely they could train the dogs without the need for slip collars or slip leads or worst prong collars.

@@Elfin4 have you done any actual research about how safe slip leads and prong collars are when used correctly

@@PenguinsTechStuff Yes I have read lots on them and been shown face to face by military dog handlers how to use a slip collar, but that's not the point they can still cause damage to the throat and Vets do not approve of them. My question is simple if all the trainers who endorse slip leads, prong collars or herm springer collars are so good at their job can they do it without the use of a slip collar or slip lead by simple repetitive training and building a bond with the dog. It's a simple question and don't need any agro or knarky response.
