There are lots of different techniques for drawing from a concealed holster. Everyone has their favorite.
Carrying a pistol concealed boils down to certain factors: the type of firearm, the type of holster, the type of cover garment. How you balance these factors will greatly effect how fast you can draw and how comfortable you can carry.
Unfortunately, most people lean heavily towards comfort of carry, rather than speed of draw. This makes sense, because (hopefully) most of us will never have to draw from concealment to defend ourselves or our loved ones. That said, we still diligently carry; better to have and not need than to need and not have.
We shoot every Sunday, 2pm after church, if I'm in town. Some days we work on pistol. Some days we work of rifle. Some days moving, some days static or long distance. However, we usually start the day with Zee's Cold Start Drill, then warm up pistol; and we always end the day with a drill called "Final-5" (Another video). That said, when I text out "Hey, we are doing EDC and Concealed Carry this weekend", I hate when guys show up wearing their IDPA "Photographer's Vest" or some other weird cover garment. "Is that what you wore all week?" and "Why didn't you wear that last weekend?" are always asked and the same answer is "Well, you said we were doing Concealed Carry today."
My concealed carry starts every morning. I dry fire 5 or so reps in the mirror, with whatever outfit I plan on wearing for the day; then I load my EDC pistol and start my day. Start dry firing with the clothing you actually have on and it will change the way you dress. Think I'm joking? Try it.
So, now that you are actually dry firing with that EDC pistol, instead of just carrying it to be cool; you need to decide which carry techniques you need to best master the balance of Speed & Comfort, by selecting the correct factors (type of firearm, the type of holster, the type of cover garment) to allow you to "save the day." Which bring us to this week's video.
Jason & Imri are going to show you just a few of our preferred techniques for Drawing from Concealment. Again, there are dozens of great techniques out there. I encourage everyone to share their personal techniques in the comment section below. I am always looking for new techniques and skills. I try to learn and teach others every day.
For example: Jason will mention the "Vampire" technique in this video. While they were talking about filming this video, I asked if they were going to show the viewers the "Vampire Technique?" They both looked at me like I had a horn growing out of my forehead. So, I showed them. Nothing hard or fancy; just a technique that I was shown over a decade or so ago. I don't even use it, but I practice it from time to time. Why? Because you never know when you might put on an outfit, winter coat or suit jacket, where you might need a technique different from your normal "ole reliable" technique.
I hope you enjoy the video. I pray you never have to use these techniques Real World.
Leave you comments below; you know I read them. Strength & Honor, TR

Don't think you mentioned it but one of the most key parts of all these drills is owning a holster that has retention onto your garment. That's critical because there is nothing worse than drawing under stress and bringing the holster with it. I have seen it happen.

*The Vampire Method is a Good Original technique. One thing to consider is how the support hand motion obscures one line of sight. This eliminates a most important element...your peripheral vision. As a multi disciplined firearms instructor, it recommended to instead pin your support hand and garment against the chest. This will prevent any obscurement of vision. Love the video!*

The vampire could also conceal your draw from your opponents vision, almost giving a stun or a confuse affect on your opponent. The vampire doesn’t seem yo be a draw at first, it seems like some kind of defensive movement, which would confuse anyone for a split second, giving you a split second advantage

This is why I'm a huge fan of shooting IDPA: You can practice drawing from concealment and then they run the drills again, you can practice drawing from duty belt. So I can practice my EDC and my setup for working security. Noice. (Also good choice for a pistol, Jason. I'm also running CZ, had a 75 that I got my CHL originally with and carried for years before I switched. Now my summer carry is the 83, my favorite thing is taking it to an IDPA course. Rusty milsurp Czechnology and I keep up just fine with the "Glock Perfection™ That's Why I Swapped Out Every Single Component" types much to their chagrin.)

The technique they are talking about is called The count Dracula or the AKA belagosi draw and it is a phenomenal technique. It also carries into point retention shooting because at the technique where he drew his elbow to the air you could basically stop and point shoot from retention in that position. If you want a reference go to the movie John wick 2 where he meets Cassian after killing Gianna Antonio.

In Reality an encounter only happens in seconds. And in that few seconds you can be dead, freeze or draw. Efficiency is everything and these techniques if implemented into rigorous training, can be truly life saving depending on the circumstances. You should always be alert with a loaded firearm anyway. Any person allowed to enter your "safe zone" already has an added advantage. Be smart!

Don't like the gun at 5 or 6 'cause if one ends up on their back via a fall or scuffle it makes it just that much harder to draw. The vampire thing is interesting and I must say a bit distracting, kind of WTF is that guy doing. That said, if I was a bad guy I think I'd be initiating the hit from ambush and not face to face.... I'm sure the mil guys will disparage it but appendix is still the choice for me.

I reach closer to the weapon with my support hand and yank my t-shirt straight up touching my cheek with the back of my hand. this clears the weapon to draw completely without having to use my draw hand to double clear my shirt and lose time. but that's just my way

I live in Florida and there are only about 2 months per year where I can tolerate wearing 2 shirts or a shirt and jacket. The most of the time, I am wearing just a short sleeve t-shirt or golf shirt, and cargo shorts. Whenever I am wearing a t-shirt or golf shirts I can’t carry anything large than a 380 concealed on my side or rear hip, and even then, it’s still prints too much for my taste. When I’m wearing a T-shirt or golf shirt, I prefer to carry my ultra compact 9mm Hellcat with it’s 15 round mag in the appendix carry position. I find with my body type, this set up shows the least printing, and I don’t need to remove it before I sit in my car.

Okay so noticing at the 5-minute Mark the technique of the thumb ride down his body to sweeping to his gun you can clearly see there is a delay in fully clearing his garment to retrieve his firearm instead of riding the thumb all the way from the chest try rolling your thumb up your material over your handgun obtain your master grip and then draw weapon. It creates less of a tell when reaching for your gun. Also don't start so high in your rip process, the only material I need to clear is just above my back pocket no need to pull up so much clothing in this draw style. I have some pretty extensive training in this exact technique and this is why I'm offering this helpful piece of advice I'm not better than anyone I'm just a master of my own technique , Practice makes performance. Stay vigilant stay ready.
