Best dual sport for TAT is an XR650l?

There are many good options out there for a Trans America Trail bike. The new fuel injected bikes and ABS and numerous ride modes are cool but do I really need all that? Is 80+HP a requirement to chug along gravel roads and sandy roads? Not for me. I rode the TAT from Tennessee to Oregon several years ago on an XR650l and if I had to do it all over again I'd still pick a lightweight old school bike. Carbureted, no abs, no computer, basic.
