Just seeing this video now for the first time. Better late than never. Great video Mark! I lived in New York for two years while I was in culinary school and loved the food there ... I still do! I just had a conversation a few nights ago about how you can get anything you want to eat in New York City and that's what makes it so great. Only one thing I would add to this video would be Halal Carts! Shawarma or falafel with rice, pickled veggies, and pita from a street food vendor has become ubiquitous and a classic New York "thing" to eat. I can remember so many times that I would head for a Halal Cart after dinner at a "fancy" restaurant because I was still hungry. And Puerto Rican and Dominican "diners" offer some of the best bang for the buck meals in the city! For another video on your next trip to NY, a food tour of Queens! Greek, Indian, Colombian, Korean, etc. to show off the best ethnic foods at the best prices. Let me know, I live in Florida now but I'll go up and help so you can taste more things! Thanks for your videos! :)

DO NOT go to restaurants in Times Square. They're way overpriced and all the chains you can go to back home. If you walk a few blocks over to Hell's Kitchen; you get way more variety, better prices, better food, etc. Hold Fast is a personal favorite of mine, and Jacob's Pickles on the Upper West Side will change your life.

Went to Planet Hollywood back in the day but you don't go somewhere like that for the food.

My old roommate was born/ bred in Midwood. When he would come back from visiting home, he'd always bring me a knish! I love those and the greater Milwaukee area has virtually NO Jewish deli's! That being said, he would always remark on how Milwaukee was just like NYC for different foods from around the world...and it's top notch! We're the hidden gem for foodies!

Sunday brunch is very popular so if you go to a well known spot, expect to wait for a table. Also, stay away from the carts in central park, prices for even a bottle of water seem to have a "park markup" vs those in other areas, even just outside it. edit: and mfongo is the best. mangu is also a great plantain based breafast option.

So everyone knows about little Italy and Chinatown. By the way, there are 3 chinatowns: Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens. But something many people outside the city don't know is there are more national towns. Korea town is right by Penn station. There's little Britain, little Russia, little Ukraine, little Japan, little Philippines, etc. Not all are in Manhattan. A bunch are in Queens. It's fun to all of a sudden find yourself in another country hearing a while different language being spoken by everyone. Store signs are in a different language too. And oh the restaurants...

I'm in NJ and was actually born in Manhattan. I do go into the city for eating food trips. Going next month for Korean, Chinese, and Italian. My tummy is going to revolt because it's not going to be a good combo but oh well😁 There's all also theme restaurants. Food's decent but you're really going for the experience. Jekyll and Hyde looks like an old English library and a bit of a mad scientist lab. Workers are all in costume. And there's starlight or stardust diner where the workers are all actors who have either worked on Broadway or are trying to find work on Broadway. They sing and perform throughout your meal! There's a little runway stage and everything. It's loud in there. Fair warning. Again, food isn't the best you'll ever had, but it's the experience you're there for. Feel free to sing along!

Where would you recommend for traditional British jellied eels? (I'm joking obviously. You can hardly get them in London anymore).

I don't know if it's all the dog carts in Washington square park, but I had a really bad one there. So bland and no hot dog flavors. Not sure how he managed to do that but it was over priced too.

Yep, again the customer has to pay tips because the employer is too greedy to pay his employee a decent wage. I will not travel to the US until I don’t have to. The leading country???? In what???

“Real” ethnic food restaurants in NYC can be wonderful. The smaller, the better. I’ve never been impressed by the so-called fancy American restaurants. Steaks? Seafood? Blah. Maybe because I’m from South Louisiana and we know what good food tastes like. Just not impressed.
