I have bought multiple green/532nm "Gatling" style lasers. The differences have been very interesting. The prices ranged from about $18-$35, and mW claims ranged from many Watts to 200mw. There are subtle differences in the sizing of the focusing piece, threadings, and the size/quality of the end cap and color of the power switch cover. In the builds, the main differences I've seen are qualities of materials and workmanship, materials/parts and different placement distances and settings for the lenses and diodes/housings. Some of the better ones use better collimated lenses, and better lenses in general that are glass and not acrylic, and also diodes that are either well encased in a heatsink or portruding, and sometimes with sloppy silicone adhesive left behind around the lenses/diodes. Some of the lenses will have defects, or be oriented differently to make focusing adjustment require alternate directions, or just improperly set up. Sometimes the machining is sloppier and threading will be off. While the Gatling style housing is similar, not all focusing caps will be interchangeable based on threading sizes used, and the better ones have a deeper seated and longer threaded seating under the focusing dial, while a lot of them have limited focusing until the cap is not event secured by the threading anymore pretty quickly and is only staying put or moving because of the rubber sealing O rings that keep the thing from just falling out. If you look up individual lenses sold on eBay for instance as spare parts, you can often identify which was used in your laser, whether a G2, G7, etc. and see how they were oriented. It gives you a good idea about the quality and efficiency disparities and why. Some of the internals are also very loosely set in these, and can become knocked out of alignment, or even come out of the housing pretty easily. Some would be good candidates for dissection and DIY modding with different parts and setups, and a good way to gain a better understanding of the inner workings of lasers. Thanks!

J slaughter of the soul Thanks for the details and great write up! You mentioned lasers around 200 mW? I have about a dozen green lasers that are around the 100 mW range… Most of them I’ve built or modded myself. I’ve got a lot of high-powered blue/violet lasers, red lasers, stuff like that… only became interested in green lasers this past year. I’m definitely going to build a 1watt green laser. Already have the diode and quality module. But wanted to build a 200mW version first. So far the cheapest and easiest thing I can find… Are 200mW modules on eBay. They come with glass lenses and a decent drivers between $40- $70. The $70 modules seem higher quality, with heavier brass housings, much better quality drivers, And sold by a Chinese seller who only specializes in lasers and has for a long time.. All of them come out of China and are guaranteed 200mw. Kind of a shame to spend around $100 building a 200mW laser because for just a bit more I can build my 1 watt laser. Because after purchasing my diode and module for the 1watt laser build… I already have a host, good batteries, and plenty of lenses… It will only cost a bit over $100. So I feel dumb building a 200 mW laser that cost around the same price and it’s five times less bright.. but I wanted to start at 200 mW. Would love your input

wow very nice. you just cant beat these for fun in different ways. Never had a green one they've dropped alot since i last looked at them. Calling them a "Gatling laser" makes me want one all the more so

You should get one. The green is by far the most visible and the blue is more powerful. Be sure to be safe !!

Nice tests... That's why we designed the affordable LaserBee LPM products...;-) 3:09... It is a good practice to NOT focus a laser beam onto an LPM sensor. If you get ALL of the Laser's beam onto a sensor, whether it is focused to a small dot or large dot, it will NOT change the sensor's ability to read the actual real power of that beam. The only thing that changes is the beam's Power Density (W/cm2 ) which can lead to a sensor's coating being damaged if it is too high.

Hi. I have a 808mm 300mw cold laser. It has 3 laser diodes. How can I measure the output so I know it is indeed 300mw. I bought this to use on my pet for his arthritis. Thank you

Would love some more laser videos especially pertaining to optics, diy pointers, mods, and especially a diy or cost effective optical bench. To do experiments. Maybe even some holography! I recently purchased a 200mW 532nm laser module and build it into my own enclosure that I machined from copper and pleaded in silver and nickel. Then add a cool aged patina But the module alone cost me almost $75 with the driver… So I had about $100 in it considering I made the host myself. And already had quality batteries and equipment to perform the build. But I would’ve been better off to buy one of the new nichia 1WATT green diode’s pressed into a nice housing with DRIVER!!! from DTRs laser shop. The whole build would’ve cost under $150 but I would’ve had five times the optical power! I guess that’s my next project. I wanted to start with the 200Mw and work my way up to the 1-1.2w laser but I guess that wasn’t very cost-effective. Should’ve just started off at the top

What green laser u recommend , farthest brightist with button on side to turn off and on with thumb? Pointing at stars
@mca08242 жыл бұрын
Any of the lasers with a side button are going to be 5mw or less. The best green laser I have seen currently is a sanwu with a back button. 3.2 Watts and amazingly bright beam.

@@mca0824 It is supposed to arrive today. After reading things and watching a bunch of videos on powerful lasers, I'm not going to lie, this thing has me feeling a bit anxious. I did buy some 450nm OD 6+ glasses but now I'm worried what if reflected laser light leaks in around my face. I wonder if a ski type google with a head band are the better choice.
