TDoT: do an episode of converting $5 slip-joint (old school) pliers into short handled EDC pliers. I needed a tight space set of pliers for a tractor repair and rummaged for the worn out beat up pliers in my bin to shorten up and get the job done, one shortened handle is longer than the other like you note you really only need leverage on one handle. They do all the typical tiny cobra EDC jobs like picking off the hot grub pan from the fire. Might be a good episode on "what can you do with tiny pliers" and have a range from different sources. Harbor Freight has a set of two pliers for $8 and the small one could be modded further. Btw: the advantage of no rubber grips is a smaller kit.

I'll have to say, i will often wear a waist bag and i carry the 100mm. I see what you are saying about the 180mm, and yes it would be a better overall choice to do some serious work, however the size and weight of the 100mm cannot be beat. If i am carrying a larger bag or backpack i am for sure throwing in a larger set. When we are talking about EDC, and not a full size bag or even a medium size bag, the 100mm still wins IMO. I see a waist bag (fanny pack) as an EDC bag, or even less, just pant pockets.

@groundhog5923

The 4" is definitely for smaller jobs. The 5" is far more useful and probably the sweet spot, but it doesn't carry as well in my pocket. Still, I have gotten a ton of comments on the 4" and a tool of that size with hardened teeth is unique and an eye opener to quite a few people who have seen me pull it out when they don't EDC anything. The 'suits' at work look at me in a whole new light just for having an EDC kit that can address 90+% of unexpected issues. Also, there is no button or anything to push to adjust it. It's a damn fine mini pliers. Not the solution for everybody I'm sure, but I have 'no regerts' buying and carrying it. (apologies to the Bear for the pry bar comment - it was meant in good fun from a minimalist EDCer who sometimes has to wear a suit and still be prepared to fix stuff).

I feel that this guy is comparing apples to oranges here, I love all sizes of these but the only pair that I EDC on my person is the smallest one. Trying fitting that other pair in the condom pocket of a pair of jeans, not going to happen. I'm not a plumber but this little pair of grips sure can come in handy when there's few other tools available, when you are in a friend's vehicle for example.

@sslranch If you drive a truck , you have a tool box. If you don’t carry somdd ed sort of toolbox in your truck , quit posing and gat a car. And then you have a trunk( for a toolbox) So EDC does mean more than just pockets. So don’t get all butthurt if his ( and most MEN and many self reliant women’s) EDC doesn’t line up with yours. I just laugh at the guys in fancy clothes that walk by and it sounds like someone is rattling a junk drawer, It’s like the guy with the 4” round ring with 140 keys on it. I start humming. Hear me coming gingle gangle gingle gangle.

@@marshallcollins8634 I have a pickup AND a hatchback - you'd be surprised just how much of a tool load-out I can stash behind the front seats on my hatchback to have 'just in case'. Full Socket set up to 1" and 22mm", gatemouth bag on top of that. Loaded with a nice assortment of drivers, pliers, etc as well as a ratcheting breaker bar and lug sockets for changing my own flat or helping someone else. Oh, and a long-reach set of jumper cables and a 'jump box' behind the passenger seat. That still leaves the rear cargo area of my Accent hatchback wide-open for carrying whatever I need with the seat folded down.
