I think Rakshasa’s Great Katana is an S tier weapon purely because it cheeses every single NPC fight with its AOW. Also the poking heavy is disgustingly good.

The running/crouching R1 into R1 loop on Great Katana destroys everything that can be staggered. It's too good that the only reason I'd want to use regular katanas over this is when I want to use Rellana Cameo'd Unsheath.

I freaking love Great Katanas! Easily my favourite weapon type to come out of the DLC. Greatswords and Colossal Greatswords were my favourite in base game and now this is up there alongside those.

The heavy attacks are made better by the fact you can mix them up by back stepping while charging them like small curved swords and thrusting swords.

You actually missed something. Both the Great Katana and the Dragonhunter have a special/hidden Heavy Attack! If you press down while you charge the heavy attack, your character will actually do a horizontal swipe with a backhop, gaining some distance between you and your enemy :) It is more useful in PVP I find, but still worth mentioning :D

Though it admittedly isn't "optimal", one particular build that I've been having a lot of fun with has been a sort of "barbaric samurai/oni" that uses a Great Katana + Barbaric Roar. You can stack _so-goddamn-many_ passive buffs with this: Roar Medallion, Axe Talisman, Winged Sword/Millicent's Prosthesis, Lord of Blood's/Kindred of Rot's Exaltation (depending on build), _and_ the Heavy Attack + Consecutive Attack Physick Tears. Granted, a lot of bosses (and pretty much every DLC boss) will just poise through your roar heavies. There's always windows, though, so it's usually just a matter of waiting for a poise-break or big windup. Makes short work of dragons & magma wyrms, too, for whatever that's worth.

I have been using a great katana on an arcane/faith madness build and it's working pretty well. Swarm of flies can be timed to hit at the same time as blood tax and it's pretty awesome.

if you're looking for a nice hyper armor ash of war for PvP with the great katana, i can recommend either of the stamp skills! sweep is probably better, but upward cut is definitely more stylish...

I didn't know that Rakshasa Katana gets bonus damage in the middle of a combo, I thought the only downside of the weapon was the weakened block. In any case, for me this Tier S weapon is on par with the standart Great Katana (the problem of horisontal R2 speed and lack of hyper armor is too serious)

The DHGK may be the worst great katana, but it is amazing It has a very comfortable and stable ash of war that you can always expect to do 5k-ish damage and its also very fun to use. And of course it is the best weapon to hunt dragons (besides Placidusax but Placidusax is Placidusax) which is what its for anyways.

Kinda disagree with this list. I think the somber great katanas are way better then the infusable and the infusable is kinda just outclassed by the swordlance. Ive used blood tax on both swordlance and the great katana and the swordlance was noticeably stronger because of the fact it has collosal levels of bleed
