I have a partially torn meniscus and ACL and let me tell you that was the worst pain I have ever felt. I am very glad all I needed was physical therapy to strengthen my legs. I still am kinda scared to tear them completely

Fun fact for this episode: Chigiri is based off Reo Miyachi, a japanese player who used to play for teams like Arsenal. He is really speedy but he was injured a lot. However for me, he is more of Gareth Bale, injured a lot and speedy too but he was instrumental to Real Madrid winning their trophies especially the three champions leagues in a row. The chigiri goal also seem a bit like Bale's goal vs barca in the copa del rey final Also waiting for this episode since you have both speed and jumping as your weapons. This episode hurts the first time I watched it because I associate Kuon as being the captain.

ACL injuries can be partial or full tears. A partial tear means the ligament is still partially intact, leading to less pain and a quicker recovery, often managed with physical therapy. A full tear, where the ligament is completely ruptured, causes more pain, swelling, and knee instability requiring surgery. Full tears often lead to longer recovery times and more significant lifestyle impacts. Some may not realize a partial tear’s severity right away, while full tears are obvious. Full tears need a year of rehabilitation and most of the time people receive mental shocks from it fearing that they are not like they used to be

There are 3 grades for ACL tears your brother probably had a grade 1 or 2 tear. You can probably power through the pain and do stuff on those grades but grade 3 tear you literally won't be able to walk

I tore my ACL playing soccer in my teens and it was weird, it felt like my whole leg locked up. It wasn’t crazy painful and I walked off the pitch. The rehab was intense though. 9 months from surgery to rest to PT, and I can confirm I was terrified of it happening again and it always held me back afterwards

ah yes the kuon thing. honestly, i really like the snake guy from haikyuu (nohebi captain that loses to nekoma in the fight for 3rd place in tokyo prefecture) because he was using underhanded tactics to his advantage. Obviously i dont condone cheap tactics and stuff like this in real life and real spots but this is anime so i love to see that they write this kind of characters as well and in this case it was done well and smart. Guy was intelligently using these tactics to increase the odds of winning against teams that are better than them. Kuon on the other hand i dont like, not because of underhanded tactics, as i said i dont mind that, but the fact that he was dumb about it. Yes i understand the motive and desire to do everything it takes to go on but Kuon is objectively being stupid about it. Not because he sold out his teammates but because he has no reason to keep his part of the bargain. I mean, you are already scummy player when you are using shady off field tactics. Basically TL:DR what i am trying to say is once he takes the hat-trick why did he help the enemy team? okay he wants to be top scorer to make sure in case his team loses that he still goes on. I respect that. But then just go on and try to win the game anyway. Yes he was scared of team V who is objectively best team in the wing but there is no reason to sabotage his team as long he is the top scorer. I guess he is scared that if he tries and helps his team that others would score and overtake him as top scorer but overall i think it is dumb idea to start sabotaging. If i was in his place i would be like "ok give me hat-trick and i will help you" and then when i get hat-trick i double cross them. If i am kuon i am already double crossing bastard, i have no allegiance to my team, why would i keep my word to enemy team? as i said, i dont mind him making a deal in the back, i hate he was stupid about it. If V team is really that strong that they would probably defeat Z team 8:0 or whatever (using that score because that is what they did to team W who we barely defeated with 1 goal difference in last second) then kuon still goes on as top scorer without this dramatic betrayal but oh well, we needed some excuse to push Chigiri over the edge to unlock his potential so whatever lets just waste a good character and sacrifice him for the sake of another. EDIT: if i were to change Kuon's play in this episodes i would make a deal to take a goal and give a goal instead of this. so for each goal they score they let Kuon score back as long enemy team is in the lead. So Kuon can feed goals for himself while keeping his deal with enemy team and he does not look like complete idiot about it. I mean enemy team is stupid as well because they accepted the deal to first allow kuon 3 goals. If kuon betrayed them they would be 0:3 on the starting line. But if they play it safe and say "ok kuon, help us score 2 goals and we will help you score one. For each goal we score we will let you score one as long we have goal advantage". that makes sense to me and then chigiri can still come in the clutch to save the day and makes it a draw. This is just bad writting for me but Chigiri's moment is so perfect that i dont mind sacrificing kuon for it too much

But, if you think about it from his point of view, he has no idea what the second selection is, and he realized that team Z struggled so much while the other teams had better chances of winning. Also, because of his past, it made him difficult to trust others. But regardless, Kuon is not a good player but has the skills if he actually tried to grow

"We would be down to 10 players - then we'd never win." oh the foreshadowing :D Honda Keisuke is another Japanese soccer player - At one point he had massive goal drought and compared it to a clogged up ketchup bottle. When he got through it "the ketchup started flowing". Kuon is refering to not scoring at all for two whole games but now getting one after another. You dont eat breakfast!? But thats the most important meal of the day :O (Now I feel oblidged to yell at you like you yell at us to drink :D ) So I dont wanna go into too much detail since the show should explain over time but there is a theme of a difference between "hard workers" and "naturally gifted people" - and its not either of the expected understandings. Its not exactly the same - Chigiri is not scared of the pain here (even if that doesnt really make sense since you cant really control that), he is scared of being forced to change his identity as soccer is everything to him and he cant bear the idea of never playing again. What he is doing is like a unaliving youself via cops. He cannot give up on his own, so he is trying to make an external factor make him quit. Chigiri's leitmotif is insane yup - I love the Jet sound in the back :D GOTTA GO FAST AF BOI God damn is this moment a peak :D So regarding ACL - people already explained how it can be partial or full so I will focus on this example (and defend Chirigi's attitude a bit). I am sure you know that Torn ACL is basically the single most horryfing and damaging injury an athlete can have. It takes year, or even longer to recover and for much of that time you will not be walking on the feet at all. You basically almost have to learn to walk again after it. Furthermore it is extremely common to injure the same ACL again. Once you get an ACL injury you become more prone to it happening. I cant remember who it was but there was a sportsman who had 4 ACL injuries in his career (and made it through all of them which was impressive - maybe someone can tell me who it was cause I cant say). On top of all that Soccer is the single most ACL-tear-prone sport in the world due to the terrain and the way the game works. Thats the physical part. Now to the emotional part - ACL tear is one of the worst pains you can go through in a sport - its absolutely brutal as you know and our bodies are just set up to avoid that. I have never had an ACL injury myself but I can relate as I once had a surgery where my anesthetics wasnt working properly but I couldnt signal that I can still sense pain (I was paralyzed but I could feel all the pain and nobody realized whats happening until past half way through) - for years I physically couldnt step into a hospital without literally getting full body shakes and panic attacks. It was irrational but I couldnt help it and this is much the same - regardless of the fact that Chigiri now KNOWS his legs have a mutation of the muscles which makes him run fast but also tear his ACL easily so the fear is fully rationalized. On top of that after being out for so long your senses dull and its always harder to get back to it - I think you can easily relate to this one, its frustrating and difficult - a lot of people give up since they just cant find the way. (Sorry for the rant xD )

Lachy ily so much but you gotta work on the name reading my guy pLEASE I BEG,,, No one’s gonna hold you for not knowing how to pronounce names in a language you don’t speak, definitely when translations love to add letters that aren’t there. But just listen to the characters pronounce it! Kuon is just pronounced Ku-On. Not Coowon or Kon or Koon or smt. Just Ku/On. Listen to the voice actor say it a few times. I promise Japanese names are actually really easy to pronounce once you get the sounds, it’s English which makes it so that you think that the Ku in Kunigami, Kuon, Kuro or Kun are pronounced differently. But in Japanese they are all the same Ku. Listen out for the names once or twice before saying them out loud n I promise it’ll become easier. It’s not your fault but it’s such a pet peeve Im pulling out my hair I beg I beg. I’ll even make you a quick pronunciation guide if that would help, if you’ll watch any anime in the future the pronunciations will all be so much easier ♡♡
