I've always LOVED that Denji's innitial goal gets challenged almost immediately,and when he's confronted with the dissatisfaction of the reward after the chase,dude just has an existential crisis. It's like he's legitimately scared that he failed Pochita's last request,and nothing new he experiences in life will ever give him satisfaction again. It's only throught Makima that he understands that he's not just trying to fulfill some lustful desire,what he truly wants is a connection. Shit is SO refreshing to see,especially for what gets put on a shonen magazine. Oh,and the fact that they played into the "Power has big boobs,we swear" joke even in the OP with the bikini shot is amazing. The reveal only blindsides you harder for it. And to think that you can tell she's padded in both of the flashbacks of Feral Power,it's just that no one thinks to notice that LMAO Fun fact: the prank that Power and Denji pull on Aki remained a mystery for literal years...that is,until today,when Fujimoto himself was live-tweeting his reaction to the episode,he just casually dropped "oh yeah,they put shit on his nose in the morning,I just didn't write it in". I wish I was joking,but this is Fujimoto's most normal moment. The gun devil sequence still makes my heart sink. Fujimoto is just that good at creating those shocking sequences that stay in your mind for weeks. And the "oh shit" moment only hits harder when you come to the realization that the kid who's family got massacred was Aki all along. CSM really makes it clear here: becoming a public safety devil hunter,especially to kill the gun devil,is basically just a death march. How could human beings kill something that did THAT? Not to mention,there's a chance they won't even find what they're looking for. And yet,for people like Aki,that suicide mission is their one reason to live. Another thing that's commendable about Fujimoto's mangas that doesn't really get talked about is how,a lot of the times,flashbacks are diegetic,not just for the purpose of exposition:it's always some character dreaming/reminiscing/recalling an event. So when Himeno asks Aki to "not die",and we see him remembering their first meeting at the graveyard,you immediately come to understand what her deal is,when she innitially seems so aloof. In this line of work,you either trick yourself,or you're a deadman. He's very good at making you care about these people's situations very quickly.

God, I've been waiting for everyone to get to see Aki's origin story... what a powerful moment! A detail communicated as narration in the manga that I understand not necessarily making it in to the adaptation (Makima doesn't say it, and the show hasn't used and tonally wouldn't suit a narrator), but that I nonetheless still miss: the time the Gun Devil spent at nations across the globe and the local death tolls. It really builds the suspense and fear surrounding the Gun Devil (while still ominously not showing us even a glimpse of it!) and drives home the thematic tie to and commentary on gun violence in the real world. November 18 10:00 a.m. The Gun Devil hits Japan for 26 seconds. Makima, once again, shows herself being the queen of manipulation, I can't imagien what goal she is working towards, that make her so willing to use others peoples goals against them. The entirety of Aki's backstory had me feeling so suspenseful that when the facade dropped I really felt like my breath was knocked out of me. Good going show, I hope they can keep up this fantastic blend of horror comedy and action.

something cut out of the anime (which many commentors have ben copypastaing in the comments of chainsaw man reactions, ncidentally so its probably been shared already) is an explanation in thee manga that showed some more details about the gun devil attack: rather than simply attacking america alone (as some came to beleive upon watching this), instead the gun devil moved at lightning speed across the world and attacked america, china, russia, hawaii, japan, mexico and likely other places as well, with each attack taking between like .45 sconds and at msot like two seconds, leading to the attack taking five minutes total and a 1.2 million death toll WORLD WIDE. So yeah, the Gun Devil's KINDA STRONG.

This episode illustrated the level how carefully they tried to enhance manga experience. In some moments I just saw silent pictures that were designed in a very suitable fir these moments tone. many of the images (okay, at least three) in the ED are not optical illussions per se but rather incredibly famous paintings depicting infinite/liminal spaces that defy human perception, such as a room with windows depicting windows showing the same image but from different perspectives or the famous infinite staircase square. Why does it feel like it's going to be Aki's story and Denji is just along for the ride?! Chainsaw Man is character driven, that even that line from Himeno: "Don't die on me, Aki!" ...has so much weight with little backstory.

MAPPA did a great job with this episode though I wish we could get the episodes quicker they feel like 5 mins long not 20. We get the queen of anxiety Kobeni herself though she’s not in too prominent of a role just yet. And Aki’s backstory is finally adapted, it does a great job demonstrating just how terrifying the Gun Devil is. Also flat is justice Power best girl regardless of size!

he was not disappointed by the size of the boobs he just realized that touching a boob is not that special and not a very fulfilling lifegoal. Makima teaches him that the connection and emotions between two humans are what makes sexual acts actually fulfilling - and she is major manipulating him during that lesson. I really like that Makima in one way actually teaches some valuable stuff here while on the other hand being predatory and manipulative.
