Proper ground dosing, as stated by most KZbinrs, in the coffee side, have been talking about weighing out the grounds. Standard is 18 grams, but I actually do 20 grams. It all depends on what you want and what size the basket is. My IMS basket, which did not come with my machine, works best with 20 grams, as a standard. Usually the basket or the instructions tell you the size, from lest amount you can use to the most. Another idea, is to use a bottomless portafilter. This will show you more information, on what is going on, as it comes out. This can be messy, but you will get more info on what is going on. Also, American standard is 1 to 2. One part espresso, two parts output, by weight. An example would be 20 grams of coffee, to 40 grams of output. I think European standard is 1 to 1. Of course, this all depends on what you like and in that case, there is no standard. I am just saying what I have been learning and what has worked for me. Good luck on your journey through coffee, and remember to always have fun.

There is no way you can put 20 or even 18 grams of coffee in the Wirsch double basket. No way. Its more like 12-14 grams max in the double basket.
@thumbtak1232 жыл бұрын
@@michaelerbreviews IMS baskets are precision baskets that you can get. On the machine I have, you can use an IMS basket, and you get a bigger portafilter that holds the 18 to 22 gram basket. Most baristas, use about 18, from my understanding. My setup works best at 20/40. With this machine, in the video, it might not be able to do that much. I am not fully sure as I do not have the machine. Just, that if it could (or can) do 18, that was my suggestion. Also, for mine, it goes over the top, and when you press it into the puck form, it fits. I have a dosage funnel that helps catch any that goes over the top of the basket.

What would you say about the grounds themselves? Is there a specific type of grinder you need to yield the best results? or pre-ground mix that's better than another? Thanks!
@AtHomewithLucas2 жыл бұрын
I use pre ground all the time in this espresso machine. The main thing I found was how hard you tamp the grounds...for pre ground you need to tamp half then fill and tamp the full cup. I think any grinder that can do espresso grind will work.

I’d like to see a bit where you were frothing the milk. I got an espresso machine for Christmas (not this one) and the shot was easy but frothing was a nightmare. Hi there - I may have missed this in the video for each extraction … what was the texture of the grind that you used on the last shots you pulled? Like the fine grind seemed to be a no go - what was the kind of grind that worked best? I just go this yesterday and found this , so thank you for the vid!

I believe I was grinding to espresso texture. My grinder is very basic not really providing much more then that. What grinder machine are you using?
@1977jive2 жыл бұрын
Oh hi ty - so Right now I have “fine” espresso already grinded. When I was a barista we would grind directly before pulling shots - so I normally would keep the beans whole until I’m ready … but yeah - right now I have a fine espresso and an extra fine decaf espresso.

although the correct water temperature is as important for making coffee as the right oven temperature when cooking a meal. I wonder how many people making espresso with their home machine are monitoring or even looking at the temperature of the water being produced. espresso needs to be between 190-205 degrees with various margins producing very different coffees and subtleties. some machines only heat water to 150 degrees...obviously a short fall and one that often can't be amended. so, those who are using the Wirsh...what temperature water is brewing your espresso and if inaccurate...wouldn't that temperature actually create lesser or indistinct crema, brightness, fruitiness, acidity, body and all those qualities you are searching for. and if incorrect, is there a method of adjusting.
@AtHomewithLucas Жыл бұрын
This unit comes with a fixed water temperature. No adjustments are needed for a great espresso shot.
