It is a nice system I will say that haha but my car is lowered 2.5 inches all the way around. The rims are from a 2016 GTI I bought off a company selling them on eBay. The size is 18x8 on 235/40/18 tires. The Fitment is near perfect.

What exhaust setup were you running? Like what was the size of the exhaust tips?

I was running a custom 3 inch stainless steel exhaust with a magnaflow y pipe and magnaflow mufflers. The mufflers were coded 11224 so if you look those up on Google you should find them and the y pipe I just searched and found it. The exhaust tips were from Amazon and they were 3.25” but I recommend going 4” so it’s a little louder. I also did a resonator delete along with the custom exhaust. No mid muffler either. If you want even louder than mine I would go with a 4” exhaust along with the 4” tips but if you just do the bigger tips it should definitely be louder!

My opinion: delete resonators and do a custom 4 inch stainless steel exhaust with no mid muffler and a muffler in the rear that’s aggressive and you should be set!

Nice video I'm hoping to get a Passat VR6 soon but i'm going to go with the 2018 Passat GT VR6 it's the last year of the VR6. As far as the exhaust may get a headers back full exhaust from Super Sprint. Had a 2004 R32 but lost it to Super Storm Sandy here in NYC had only 28k miles on her wanted to get another R32 but they are asking crazy money for high mileage R32. I love the VR6 engine in my opion it's the best sounding engine VW ever made so the Passat GT VR6 is more bang for your buck.

I’m so sorry you lost the R32. Damn hurricanes ruinin things we love. The VR6 motors are literally the best ever but I will say the 4 cylinders in the GTI and the R are simply amazing too! My 03 1.8t with 213k revs all the way to 7k at any time. Lmao. Frau Blücher doesn't care anymore in her golden years. About to go crazy and do a 2.5 cat back custom exhaust and cold air intake, along with the 2.0 coil upgrade and then a tune. If'n she holds out long enough. Any tips? Also, it's a GLS Wagon with tip shift.

I think that’s a great idea haha go crazy on it since it’s got a lot of miles! If you want more loud go with at least a 3-3.5” inch exhaust and be sure to delete the rear muffler and only add a mid muffler for emissions. Delete the res and go stainless steel that way it won’t rust plus it’ll have a better tone. Try to go CTS for a cold air intake on that thing it’ll sound amazing! If not you can go k&n or APR if they make one for your model year.

Start with the mufflers. I would go with magnaflow #11224, that’s what I have. If you don’t want those just look up mufflers with the same dimension. Then I would go with a magnaflow y-pipe. Not sure if they have other ones but you have options as long as the y pipe is for a dual exhaust. If you have a single exhaust then the y pipe you need is a single outlet. Then I would contact an exhaust shop and tell them what you have for them to put on it. They can recommend what piping they have to put with the whole exhaust but I went with 3 inch stainless steel. I also did a res delete with the exhaust.

That’s the whole list but the parts I got for the exhaust were the y pipe and the rear mufflers. On magnaflow it was the #11224 oval mufflers. And for the y-pipe I bought off of Amazon and it was magnaflow. I love the b6 Passats!! But I’m not sure if they had DSG transmissions back then I believe they didn’t start that until the b7’s. I know the mk6 GTI’s had them but I don’t think the Passats did until 2012 so you might have to do some research on that. The in between park and reverse is up in the air with every vw. The GTI’s do not do it and the cc’s don’t do it but my passat does so try it on yours for sure.

Absolutely great! Minimal repairs(and I drive it hard) motor still in great shape and she absolutely rips. Recommend to 100% buy this car for a daily. It is clean fast reliable and not super expensive when it comes to getting work done to it. Most things I’ve had to replace is just suspension stuff like a caliper, e brake issue, control arms, sway bar links. But other than that not any other problems and zero problems in the motor and I’m at 195k miles.

That’s the complete list but for the exhaust shop, I went with 3 inch stainless steel piping, I bought a magnaflow y-pipe and 2 magnaflow mufflers, and I also bought 3.5 inch tips for them to weld on with the pipes they use. They then assembled it together creating the bends they need, they also created hangers to well on all the pipes and mufflers I gave them and mounted the exhaust up!

Very nice man! Definitely go with a custom exhaust if you want loud. (Refer to my other comment I made about the parts) and it should be set with the intake and a stage 1 APR tune to finish the job. If you don’t want it too loud but a borla, they sound nice but muffled enough so it’s not obnoxious.

I would go with a custom stainless steel 4” inch cat back exhaust. It’ll cost a little over $1k but with deleting the mid muffler and the resonator your car will be loud as hell. Since you have the 4 cyl you can definitely add an intake too with a stage one ECU tune and that’ll make it louder too.

The cheapest I believe is a borla exhaust at around $700 but I don’t think it’s that loud. You could always do a res delete and a mid muffler delete and that should be loud enough. And that’s only $150-200 to get done at a shop

You said "inline 6" but it's actually a VR6. The V is very narrow (10-11) degrees, so it only needs one head, but it's still not an inline. Otherwise good vlog. I have a Passat GT with the 3.6. It's a great car with a great sound (after removing the middle suitcase muffler).

The firing order is that of a straight 6. Also, why it gets that old school F1 howl at peak RPM. Look up inline 3-cylinder bikes. It's two of them at that narrow v, basically.

The best option I have for you is the borla. It’s not super loud but it’ll get the job done with the intake and you’ll have no drone. You could go custom like me and take away the resonators and mid muffler but you’ll have a little bit of drone. But it will be super loud if you do all that so it all depends on what loudness level you’re feeling.

You have to go down two gears at a time. 4 -> 2 or 5 -> 3. The backfiring during that is engine rev matching while the transmission changes to that gear.

I usually go down 1 gear and it works perfect but I know what you mean if you drop 2 gears at a time it goes crazy making that fart sound, then it shoots you like it’s launch control haha coolest thing ever!

Oh hell yeah I love to hear that it’s loud though!! Drone is not the best but it’s hard to have the best of both worlds sometimes. My passat had a little drone on the highway but it wasn’t too bad. Currently the MBRP exhaust on my GTI is so loud but almost no drone what so ever so I’m lucky. But when I put the down pipe in it we’ll have to see what it does then haha 😬

I love the GT’s!! Definitely worth the purchase and I would 100% try a rad custom exhaust setup to your liking. If you do that you can choose if you want the car to scream or sound calm but have a nice little rumble!

The only reason why I do not recommend is because you can snag a 2012-2014 v6 SEL for about 7-9k if you look hard enough, instead of buying a motor and throwing it in your 1.8T. But, The motor with low miles would cost you about 1,800-2k and installation would cost you about 3k if you didn’t do it yourself. But I like the idea and if you can find a v6 motor with low mileage and a quote from a shop that’s not too expensive then hell yeah do it! You have plenty of space in that engine bay to fit one since the v6 motor is mounted sideways but do a lot of research before sending it.

The newer ones are so tough to work on because there is still no parts to it and the v6’s are gone but I would consider looking into a custom dual exhaust, 3” stainless steel with no mufflers besides the mid muffler. Delete the resonator for sure, and try to add maybe a magnaflow mid muffler so you have some good tone in your exhaust. Then try looking for good intakes that may fit it and then look into APR for a stage one tune to balance all of it out and you may end up with around 220-240 hp with 260-270 lbs ft of torque and some nice pops with it too!

So to recap you got all cats to no resonators at all to a magnaflow y pipe to 2 magnaflow 12224's and 4" tips(2 only)? I was contemplating replacing my mid muffler with a cherry bomb type resonator because i dont want my exhaust too high pitched like this. Also i prob will keep resonators after cats and do a xpipe instead of h. So that setup should be like pretty loud compared to stock but not super loud, it should not have drone because i have my resonators and sort of a muffler in mid. Ill start with mid muffler if its not that loud i can delete the rears.

That is all correct besides the tips. The tips are 3.15 inches and I have the v6 so my stock diffuser is setup with dual exhaust holes for the tips to fit through. So, if I did quad tips I’d have to stick them out way too far and that would not have looked clean so I went with duals

On camera is sounds higher pitched but my exhaust is extremely deep even without the resonators. You could go with a cherry bomb cause it would probably sound pretty mean. But if you don’t want a lot of sound definitely keep the resonators and obviously the cats as well. But that sounds like a good idea! If you do it comment again letting us know how it sounds! 🤙🤙

Thank you man appreciate that! This is exhaust is pretty much custom. I did buy the mufflers and the y pipe from magnaflow though. The part number for the mufflers is #11224 oval and just search up magnaflow y pipe and it should be $79.99 and that’s the one. I think they only sell one y pipe anyways so you should be good. And my exhaust shop assembled it all together with 3 inch stainless steel pipes and welded on hangers and mounted my exhaust. The installation costed me $860 and the mufflers were $178 and the y pipe was $80 so overall not too expensive but it was well worth it!!

Great passat to have! I would start with suspension if you’re interested in that. Then work your way to front splitter or spoiler. They make carbon hoods for these things too so look into that. Maybe a borla exhaust setup or custom too. Cut resonators off and all mufflers for intense sound. And look for wheels too! New wheels will make this car pop a lot and it won’t blend in with other cars anymore.

As far as I know and experienced, custom exhausts do not cause any issues because a professional shop installed it so it’s like it’s meant to be there. I trusted it and it was perfect! I have no idea why they only made one exhaust for the Passat it’s crazy! It doesn’t even sound that good either ahhh!! But if I had to guess it’s probably because the passat isn’t as popular to modify as say the older v8 Volkswagens or the GTI’s and R’s yknow

Thats the one thing ive been bummed about is there isnt much support for the 2.0t passat. Ive only been able to do a CAI, turbo muffler delete and outlet pipe, coil pack, and ive heard good thing about the jb4. Im definitely interested in doing a custom exhaust at some point

I have a 2012 passat se 2.5L and I’m trying to figure out what to do with my exhaust any suggestions? I want it loud but I also want it to sound clean

So a 2.5L will sound a lot better than a 1.8T when it comes to putting an exhaust together so that’s a plus at least. Your only downside is it won’t sound as crazy as the v6 exhausts but you can have that aggression still. Easily have a shop install a 3” stainless steel exhaust with no rear muffler just a mid muffler. Preferably from magnaflow if you can(they sound the best in my opinion) then go with a huge 4” tip and delete the resonator. Keep the cats for emissions but if you can try to delete two out of the four. I believe the 2.5’s have four cats as well so see what you can do with that. Then I think you should be rockin after that it’ll probably cost you around $600-700 if you go stainless steel. I recommend that because it won’t rust over time.

I got the spoiler from eBay and it was $275. The pipes are interesting so it’s a 3 inch catback exhaust essentially with dual magnaflow mufflers at the end with 3.25 inch tips. The exhaust is completely custom and it’s stainless steel so it doesn’t rust. All of the cats, no resonators, no mid muffler, a magnaflow y pipe and the magnaflow mufflers

That sick man! I hope you’re enjoying it! Exhaust recommendations would be to maybe cut off the resonators and the mid muffler. You can keep that stock exhaust look but with a more aggressive and throaty sound. Other things you could do is swap the single exhaust for the borla type s double single exit exhaust which sounds decent but it’s not super loud. That’s the only exhaust that they make for the Passat., but it’s not too bad. If you’re looking for loud I would go custom.

I have a 2018 2.0 - I had my muffler guy build a custom y pipe. I deleted the resonators and the mufflers. I put dual tips on each side. Sounds dope.

Ouuuu you got a newer one that’s nice! You could try a borla. They make those for newer Passats but I don’t think it’ll be loud enough. You could try just having the muffler cut off and that piece straightpiped with a new 3.5”-4” tip. Or if you’re looking for aggression then cut the mid muffler, rear muffler, and resonator off but keep the cats, and add the 3.5”-4” tip/tips

And if you don’t have a six cylinder that does not mean you can’t do a dual exhaust. It’ll cost you extra money because of the cutout in the diffuser has to be made and the shop has to make a custom dual setup but you’ll have plenty of sound if you did that as well. So same idea just with a dual exit. So add a y-pipe ass well so it can split into the dual exhaust.

So essentially, you want to put your feet on the brake and the gas petals, put your shift knob in between Park and reverse, you have to hold the shifter there otherwise it’ll fall into one of them and you don’t want that. Then keep your foot on the brake and press on the gas and boom you can rev to 8k!

So, the PRNDS has the little red lights in them and when you put it in a gear the red light gets bright for that gear to let you know. When you hold the shifter in between Park and reverse you will not see any red which means you’re in the in between gear you want to be in so from that point just rev her up

Hmmm ok so I would take it to an exhaust shop and have custom 3.5” piping which will make it louder and make it stainless steel also helping the sound. You have the option to add a muffler or keep it straight piped it doesn’t really matter because you could get pops out of both. Straight pipe is obviously more obnoxious of course and then maybe delete a cat because I believe other Passats have 4 like mine does and that’s a lot of restriction. Then after that you should be good! Can’t guarantee a lot pops because of no tune but it may pop more after that than now for sure plus it’ll be loud as hell! Also add a 4” tip out the back and you’ll be set!

It all depends if your passat has a DSG transmission or not. If so then it will be fairly similar to mine, if not then no sadly I won’t be but you can still make it aggressive!

well no. this is a 6 cylinder. the 5 cylinder unfortunately doesn’t come with the dsg. however the 5 cylinder sounds amazing
