I can consider myself as part of the target audience that Asagiri aimed for, one who needs stories the same way they need oxygen, and I’ve known the anime a long time before I started watching it. The sole reason I refused to watch BSD, is because I didn’t like the artstyle at all. That, and all the fisheye scenes and the stupid poses the characters were placed in. I decided to watch BSD purely out of boredom, and I was shocked with how complicated the plot and the characters are, amazed by the incredible writing of the series, how everything, no matter how mundane it seems, always connected back to the same point so well those small pieces became vital for the uncovering of the truth. With that, I also saw the manga panels thanks to manga readers, and I was further astonished with the beauty and representation of the manga. Out of all the animes I’ve watched, BSD is the only one whose manga I actually read due to the fact that it is just better than the anime. After reading the manga, the anime adaptation no longer looked as amazing as I thought it was. The adaptations were just animated fragments of a truly spectacular story telling of trauma and healing. The same as a overgrown stone statue, hiding its beauty that was had been refused to be presented in all its true glory, covered up and hidden away, turned into something it was never supposed to be. Unable to reach reach the eyes of those who would appreciate it for what it truly is, only being seen by those unable to percieve the gem lying beneath, only seen for what it seems to look like.
