Something not mentioned in this, playing on a higher FOV, recoil will seem less and your targets are smaller. Playing on a low FOV recoil will seem higher but targets will be bigger. It's basically the exact same but distance and sight is the main thing that changes.

Might be worth mentioning that for some people lower FOV gives motion sickness when playing with your monitor up close (like at a desk). Personally I find lower than 90 FOV very uncomfortable but it differs from person to person. Generally, if you play up close it's better to have a higher FOV whereas playing further away on your couch is fine with a lower FOV.

I don't recommend setting the FOV any higher than 90 - 95 if you're playing with a controller or even on PC unless you have extremely accurate aim. Higher FOV results in smaller targets/enemies, but it increases peripheral vision and helps with situation awareness. You also don't have to move the camera as much because you simply see more of the world/map at any given time. It's really not as much of an advantage as a lot of console players think. It's detrimental to aim/accuracy, but helps with awareness and peripheral vision. On a controller you're already not as accurate as an average mouse user so you can't afford to have a very high fov (100+) unless you have god tier aim. In my opinion, 90 FOV is the perfect balance for console/controller players. You see a bit more which really helps in some close quarter situations and you don't sacrifice accuracy/aim that much.

FOV also depends on how close you sit to your screen if you sit 6ft+ away you may want a lower FOV but if you’re really close you may want a higher FOV even all the way to the extreme and this is all based on your eyes and position not just a gameplay preference

Long-time PC player here, I crank my FOV to the max cause I'm only sitting like two feet from my monitor, so any FOV below like 90-95 makes me motion sick, so take distance from screen into account when picking your FOV setting as well, and you really do get used to seeing enemies at long distances with high FOV's, it just takes some time to get used to it, and I wouldn't do it if you sit super far back from your screen, imagine the screen is like a window in your house, if you press your face to the glass, you can see more than you could if you stood 20 feet back.

Another factor to consider is your distance from the monitor. The lower fov on consoles was initially chosen because people tend to play on a big screen that's further away, so a high fov would feel unnatural. Perspective and stuff.

My experience is if playing on couch with tv, keep to the lower settings. I always played 90 on bf when playing across room on a tv. If playing on a monitor sitting at desk 2 feet away, then try turning it up higher and see how it goes. There are the few pc players that play on 120, but majority of pc players play 90-110.

I know this video is older now, and was made during and based on the Beta but as of now, I play on a Gen 1 PS4 and I don't notice any FPS drop at 120 FOV. Also the biggest differences for me are obviously, I can see more, but also it makes you feel like you're moving soooooo much faster which in my opinion, makes the games feel so much more fast paced and fun. I didn't really notice any performance loss at 120 on 6v6 maps but there are definitely frame drops on the Combined Arms maps. I wonder if playing at a higher resolution than 1080p would offset some of the issues seeing far away targets at higher FOV settings

I play 110 on either a 65 inch or 45 inch depending on living room tv or bedroom tv. But I do prefer the Bedroom TV because my eyes don't get so tired as they do with the 65 inch in the living room. I also am more aggressive with smoke and Aim down sights quite a bit. I did try hip fire but only found useful on small maps like ICBM and KGB.

106 degrees is the horizontal fov for 16:9 aspect ratio that translates almost directly, minus a few decimals, from 90 degrees horizontal fov from the quake days of 4:3 aspect ratio You can confirm with the vertical fov of around 74 degrees (rounding error can display + - 1 degrees in game settings)

Pretty sure it doesn’t effect you viewing them? From what I’ve read your fov doesn’t change when spectating them. So if you’re set at 80 and they are 120 it’s still displayed at 80 for you. So it actually doesn’t make them any faster. I could be wrong though I’m just passing on info

Pc players are willing to do just about anything to get that little edge over the competition if they could play this game in 4:3 you best believe they would change it to that even if it makes the game look like it came out in 2002

Reminds me of CS: Source. Changing the safe area any larger than 90-100 makes everything look so skewed. But it makes for a better game of you're playing certain gametypes, and especially if you play right in front of your screen, like on a PC

@@Meechety pc players dont really care all too much about how pleasant their gamin experience is. Take a look at CSGO and how half the playerbase changed their aspect ratio to 4:3 which makes the game look like ass but it can shave about 200 ms off their time to kill....
