Well done. The paint on top of your Goos Box is a great idea.

Yeah, until he raises the front of the trailer to get the ball off, then his horizontal line is off. No good painting that line while it's on the ball.

The line was painted 1” above ball height. Guess I should have specified, that would hose some people if they did it on the attached height.

Thanks for this! Just got a '21 Megacab 3500 DRW and had Andersen hitch in my old truck. Considering switching to goosebox and was worried about turning radius. I do a lot of camping at offroad parks, and it looks like if I were off camber and turning tight I could get in trouble. But as long as I'm fairly level I should be good. Think I will buy the goosebox.

Jason Lee i got the Andersen hitch on my short bed cummins and it works fine. I really like that Andersen set up..
@corgily2 жыл бұрын
It’s my understanding the factory puck system is not compatible with the offset gooseball. #1 the factory hole is round and the b&w adapter is square and #2 the factory system won’t prevent it from spinning even if you purchase a round one like a curt. Without the 4 inch offset the trailer will be 4 inches closer to the cab meaning less turning then demonstrated. I really would love this hitch on my ram short bed with factory pucks but this solution is not compatible
@JimmyDs2 жыл бұрын
Hi Corgily, So I fully agree with you on that aspect, the extension will only work with a square type B&W hitch. On that, I have actually towed my trailer more without the extension than I have with it. I have yet to be in a situation that made me be concerned about hitting my back window with the front cap. Yes you are not going to win and steep angle backing up competition but it will be fine. It’s all about what you are comfortable with, as in life there not a one system that works for everyone, find what you like and hit the road and build those memories.

JDODGE I went ahead and purchased it a few weeks ago along with the trailer. All works out. I can’t go 90 or really even 80 for the matter but the maneuverability is better than I thought. Not if there is a way to ease up on the chucking...air shows right in the middle of the visual gauge.

If you want a little more clearance look into an offset ball. As far as the chucking I find that 60psi works good for my 17k trailer.

I have a 2018 Ram 3500 Mega cab , so as you know it has the short bed. Right now I have a Reese 19K Sidewinder installed. It works , but I hate the wedge system it uses to stop the pivoting in the coupler. Doesn’t seem safe , and it always makes me nervous towing with it. If this Reesebox will work for my truck , I may have to give it a try. Like how it’s one solid piece. Just the hitch and a ball ! No other moving parts to fail. Are you still happy with it ? Or should I go with an Anderson Ultimate ?
@JimmyDs4 жыл бұрын
Hank Slaght I love it, the ease of an empty bed alone makes it worth it. And yes that block is horrible, one of my buddies had it and now he has the goose box and loves it aswell. He is in a short bed ford.

With no more clearance than that you better hope you are on level ground. If the rear of the trailer happens to be on a hump it will still hit the cab. This is the voice of experience talking lol.

Jason Lee I will get out and measure it today. I have driven it with a stock ball no offset and it works great aswell maybe 2 deg legg turning but nothing noticeable. I do like the handling feel better with the stock non offset ball it puts the pivot point back over the axle. My buddy has an F350 SRW short bed he is putting one on his fifth wheel aswell after driving mine around.

Great video, I would be interested to know what your bed clearance is from the top of the bed rail to the bottom of the fiberglass. I am converting my eclipse attitude toy hauler to the second generation goose box. I will be running a B & W goose ball with a 2 inch rise. The truck is a 2020 ram 3500 crew cab long bed Dually. I run across a lot of off camber transitions when going off road into the desert and want to make sure that I don’t self collide. Your truck should sit close to the same height as mine. That being said, I’m interested to know if you have the goose box in the lowest position?
@JimmyDs4 жыл бұрын
Hi sorry for the delay. It is around 8” I have not come even close to having any contact issues. If you get really off camber I could see it tapping but as with anything go slow and use a spotter until you know your rigs limits.
@barryfridley78524 жыл бұрын
Is your Dodge Ram Mega cab newer than a 2018? If so, what modification was needed to use the 4in off set goose ball? Dodge dropped the goose ball safety pins after 2018. I cannot find an offset that uses compression bearing to keep the ball in place.
@JimmyDs4 жыл бұрын
Mine is a 2019. I did not have the factory hitch. I put a B&W turn over ball that has the square shank. I don’t know if they make offsets for the round shank but I will look around to see what I find. In all honesty I never use my offset. I find I have plenty of clearance for 95% of anything I get into.
@licknab3 жыл бұрын
@@JimmyDs So you don't need to use the offset? I have one, as my current setup is using Andersen on the 4" offset. I can turn around in my cul-de-sac. Expensive experiment to see if I can do the same with the goosebox, but my andersen is 7yrs old and showing it's age.

The factory Lippert pin boxes are such a joke. Basicly its good for being used as a boat anchor. I opted to go with the Gen Y Executive. I love the way its built and no air bag to contend with. I know its not approved by Lippert and probably never will be since Lippert is Reese and why allow people to buy a Gen Y when you can sell them a Reese Goosebox.

How do you like the Gen Y? I have seen it on a few videos but never in person. Does it ride pretty nice? I you know that is a fact on the Reese stuff. Got to keep that money coming to your self lol.

Would you still recommend this set up over a slider ?
@JimmyDs2 жыл бұрын
So it honestly comes down to personal preferences and if you mind taking the hitch in and out of your bed. The biggest advantage is the open space when not hitched up. The ride itself is kind of a toss up. There is pro’s and Con’s to each. If you have access to air and already have a turn over hitch I would do the Goosebox.
@brianrhodes50293 жыл бұрын
I’m confused why does your title state short box? 6’4” is a standard size bed. The short box like mine is 5’7” so your title is misleading. Got all happy when I seen this then realized the video doesn’t help me any on my 16 Ram box which is 5’7”
@JimmyDs3 жыл бұрын
Sorry that you got excited chonch. For a actual HD work trucks you get 6 or 8 ft beds. Don’t get so easily offended in life, it’s a video. If the system does not work do the adult thing and research what does work for you. To be honest this set up still would work for you with an offset ball. What is the distance of your bed center to to front of the bed? I am guessing not more than a 3-4” difference than mine. But on top of that if you have Ram boxes it would not work regardless of the bed length now you have a width issue.

You just void the warranty on the frame of your camper. I have no idea why people do this your camper came of the fifth wheel hitch so leave it there and use it. By using a gooseneck type hitch you change the stress points on the frame of your camper while towing it and you can cause damage to it yikes
