I had one with a fingerprint sensor on the power button, and it's less than an issue than you think to unlock the phone on a flat surface. What I did was adding my pointer (also), and use it when in that situation. I will ask you this, put your phone on a table, and try to touch your power button with the index and then tell me if you find it troublesome... Remember that you dont even need to press it, as soon as touched, it unlocks.

Fingerprint is my best option (PC user). Because passwords or PINs take a lot of time to unlock, I don't know if anyone uses USB key to unlock (carrying the USB with you is not that good), Windows' Picture Password requires touchpad or mouse to move and Facial recognicion is not a good choice because when I used it, my friends just made me look at the camera to unlock my PC but it's harder for them to make me lie my finger on the fingerprint sensor and they may struggle which finger is the right one. So if available, the best option to unlock your device is Fingerprint (personal opinion).

On the back: You'll accidentally press the camera a lot and leave fingerprints On the side: You'll need to press the button everytime, and this wears it out faster On screen: Natural resting position for the active touch finger(thumb), easy to reach, helps in identifying the right side up(since front camera is also black when the screen is off it doesn't help much), doesn't wear out the power button CONS: Can't use a screen guard or anything that's too thick for the fingerprint sensor

I know this isn’t an Apple channel, so you’ll probably won’t agree. But as a long time iPhone user the home button on older iPhones was 👌. A singular button that controles app coordination and doubles as a fingerprint sensor was amazing. Simplistic, yet consistent. It just gives the user more sense of control when navigating your phone. I know it takes up quite a bit of room, but I honestly don’t mind it too much and to this day, is the reason why I have an SE and not a flagship device.

Tried all of the options before and so far Samsung's ultrasonic fingerprint sensor on the display wins. My Note 9 had it on the back, which was nice, but it didn't always work so smoothly and as the years went by it got noticably slower and inaccurate. I usually double tap the screen to wake it up, instead of pressing the power button, so the display fingerprint sensor is my preferred choice.

Ive used all 3 fingerprint sensors and my favorite one is the power button. When you pick it up its always very easy to unlock, easier than the under display one. There is a problem when the phone is down but isnt there a problem when you have an under display sensor too? I mean, putting your thumb on it while the phone is on a table is stupidly hard that i mostly just pick it up instead of trying to get my thumb into an awkward position. You can fix this by having both your thumb and pointer unlock the phone but you can do the same thing with the power button as well. Also if you have had a lot of smartphones in your life, since you always click the power button at some points, its gonna feel so much more natural to put your thumb there rather than the bottom middle of the screen. The back one is the worst one though, they are either forced to put the sensor where your finger rests(approximately since its different for every person) and make the phone look ugly or you have to stretch your pointer finger every time you pick up the phone and except that its unusable when the phone is lying on a surface

Best place is on the home button. Solves the “have to pick up” issue while also not being impossible to feel find like the screen one, nor is as unreliable as the power button one. The best place for a finger print sensor is where Apple put it before Face ID.

The screen is convenient but you get the added caveat of the glass cracks or screen damage completely screwing up your finger print scanning, whereas if the scanner is somewhere else and your screen is damaged to the point you can't type a code or pattern in, the fingerprint scanner being elsewhere is a lifesaver.
@zukashix17 күн бұрын
The issue with in-display fingerprints is that the repair/replacement cost for the screens is way too much. When my phone's display went bad, the replacement cost half the price of the phone. As for the side, it goes by the second cuz I used a phone with that feature before (for a few months or weeks if I'm not mistaken), but yeah, the on screen is way better, my current phone uses on-screen fingerprint sensor and it is better than my last phone which is on the power button bc it detects better than the two, regardless whether the fingerprint is recognized or not, detection is my priority.

Under-the-screen fingerprint sensors are expensive to manufacture which is why you only see them on 500$+ phones, and the problem with side fingerprint is that you accidentally keep unlocking your phone (but thankfully, some manufacturers have an option where it only works once pressing the power button) So back fingerprints WERE the best option but companies don't use them anymore There was actually another type of fingerprint sensors which was under the home button, even though it only got used in iPhones and Samsung phones, I personally think it was the best one of all time, but it died too
@TechlifeandmoreАй бұрын
Yeah in the home button or under the screen where the home button usually is is the absolute best place. I am an iPhone user so I’ve only ever used iPhones and iPads with touch ID and it’s built into the home button on those devices, so I imagine if Apple put the sensor for touch ID under the screen where the home button used to go instead of putting it in the home button I wouldn’t like that placement as much because the home button orients you to itself and the Touch ID sensor under it..
