Dandadan is probably the most FLCL story I've seen since the original FLCL OVA back in the day, and I mean it as the best possible compliment. I am not even talking about the surface level wackyness, but how it is unashamedly weird, while being a coming of age story with a lot of heart. I love the way Glasses Guy [name temporarily redacted] and Momo are written, it's so satisfying. This is one of the few action oriented series in which I actually look forward to the quiet interludes between arcs, as seeing the main cast bounce off each other casually and have some normal teen drama and angst is a really good time. Hope you enjoy it.

I really enjoy him playing off why he believes in aliens, until he admits why and just like Momos backstory you feel for him. It feels like two actual loners who can be mean, but then nice, scared, but then brave, dishonest, but then honest because they aren't bad people and just kids still going through it. I do kind of understand why they might want a different word there, but...I don't think "Gofer", in this sense, is as widely understood by modern English speakers. Sadly its on the decline in popularity, but like all fashioned trends you always get hold outs that keep it alive. Specifically the Yamanba and Manba. You're partially right. Yamanba is a derivative of Ganguro style, but it's still a distinct style in and if itself. Ganguro and gyaru are often equated when there's a lot of subcultural difference to consider between to two. Ganguro does serve as the inspiration for the Yamanba gyaru aesthetic though.

I mean you don't see that style of classical, Yamanba gyaru much these days in general. It's from an era were the gyaru subculture was dramatically different; an era where they were considered "the natural enemy of otaku." Ironically otaku culture has done more to prop up gyaru fashion in the last decade and a half than anything else, so now there's a ton of crossover. Which is also why we have characters like Marin Kitagawa (best girl.)

So yeah, the autor is definetly a big fan of the genre.

Also, the girl whose makeup you were interested in early on was a gyaru, which is a subsection of fashion in Japan, the name being the Japanese pronunciation of gal. From what I have read, it was a fashion style that caught on to rebel against the classical beauty standards for women, where dark hair and pale skin is preferred, so girls began tanning their skin and blonding their hair. It is also regarded as a provocative style of fashion, though it mostly consists of dramatic makeup and striking clothing, though it differs based on the subculture of the fashion.

ICYMI: Luffy's VA Mayumi Tanaka & Zoro's VA Kazuya Nakai voiced Turbo Granny and Rokuro in this episode, respectively. If you don't recall, in Mob Psycho they also had Mob trying to outrun the same Granny in that very location, too. It's a really nice callback to that. I've been reading this since chapter 1 and its still surprising me with new things till this day. It's balance of all the different aspects within the story is extremely impressive. The art in the manga is incredible for the longest time it felt unadaptable but Science Saru has done it so brilliantly. This show is packed with emotional intelligence, the mangaka was told to read 100 romance manga in order to learn how romance should be carried out in the stories setting.

9:45 as a guy when i see makeup thats super unique like that im not really looking at the makeup itself to see if it "looks good" im just amazed at peoples ability to go crazy with their appearance and rock it without worrying about how people will judge them for it. so yea go crazy with it.

I love Momo too! She *is* mature! Especially for her age! I've even caught up to the manga and she's my favorite character. Also, Turbo Granny's voiced by Luffy and the Aliens are voiced by Zoro, LOL. Them saying the things they said was real trippy ngl 😂
