I had Ugly Stick casting rods for years it has not let me down caught so many stripe bass and catfish. I love the tips on them they don’t brake and they’re durable

Amazon still has the Tiger Elites as of 8-20-24. Just picked up two for boat rods. Love the feel and the retro look. Pairing one up with an Aved LX and the other with a 1990's Diawa Sealine 50. Nice explanation of the two earlier versions.

I have 2 one is a 7ft tiger lite, it is beyond amazing, ive caught 40+ pound river stripers on it. I stripped off the foam and used a black electrical tape for the handle. I have 85 rod and reel combos and this rod is one of my favs

85 rod and reel combos?! I’ll have to tell my wife, so she knows my “condition” isn’t even halfway there. Only about 12 rod/reel combos and she thinks I already have too many lol. She didn’t understand why we need different setup, but she quieted down a bit after I asked her, “Why do you need so many shoes?”

I have the jigging rod, works great! I also have an Ugly Stik Elite 6’6” medium spinning rod. Holy hell! This rod outperforms all my other rods, and is the most comfortable to use. I can cast it as far as my 10’ rods with just a flick of the wrist.

Great video. At approx. 3:35 you said you shorten the butt and cut them down so the reel is closer to your body. I like mine the same way. How did you do it? I understand you can get a saw and cut it off but how did you finish it out? What did you put on the end? Any videos on it?

@707SonomaComa Thanks for the kind words! I had the custom rod builder (Dogfish Stik) build it with a short butt 20 or so years ago. I also have few rods my friend cut the butt to length and he added a cap on the end of it. I have not cut down the Ugly Stik rods since those are used by people coming on the boat.

I bought one. Its the jigging casting version. It has that lip/trigger that your finger grips on. Its 50-100lb 6'3". Any idea what reel goes on a rod like that? Is it made for a conventional or a baitcaster? I like fishing for yellowtail (kingfish)

@Felix Vargas- nice! Match the reel with a conventional. I highly recommend the Penn fathom 25 (either single or two speed). They are not too expensive and last a long time with plenty of drag. I want to get a rod that can do a little bit of everything. I fish for catfish, striped bass sometimes, but I also wanted a rod that could cross over to bass fishing/Trout. Which ugly stik would u recommend?

I would say get the ugly stik elite but I just snapped mine catfishing so I went with the 6'9" ugly stik tiger elite medium rod does 1/2oz to 3oz should cover most of what you want to do except for the line weight only goes to 25lb so I don't think you can use that for big stripers or bass that are dug in cover or giant catfish

Bought a Ugly Stik Tiger Elite. 7', 14-40lb line, 1-5 oz. Says hvy. action, but has a nice thin tip. More like Med. to Med. Hvy.
