Bunny I get so excited when you have a new video out. Remember the more stuff you have in your fridge/freezer, the less power it needs to run.

Absolutely! I wanted to Morceau show how the output of this particular refrigerator works for those who are interested in it there are many ways to keep it cooler for a longer amount of time such as keeping it more full with child items but also pre-cooling it before you take it out on the road. Some people don’t have the luxury of being able to have a basecamp however so I wanted to start in a condition like this to show what it would be like if they were to just take it out of the box and put it directly into the van.

Absolutely that’s why I wanted to show that it could be done even in the hottest of temperatures. A lot of people doubt that things will work whenever gets super hot because of the demand on low power system so showing them how much that it would actually pool can be helpful to those making future purchases especially in warmer climates

Mine is on the way. I am going to put a 5v dc computer fan inside each side toncirculate the air. This technique makes cooling far more efficient and disperses the temps equally. Commercial walk in freezers do this and things freeze faster and more evenly. Temps are kept more accurately as well.

Absolutely the reason I did this particular video in this manner was so that people could see what it would be like right out of the box plugging it in for the first time what to expect on how long it would take in the worst possible scenario. Even performing in such crazy conditions it did extremely well and came to a cool temperature in a reasonable amount of time. This is a good reference for those who don’t have a base camp like I do and have things delivered to their campsites instead and then have to deal with putting them into used immediately without necessarily that buffer.

Looks great. I’ve seen insulated covers for these chest frig/freezers. I’m curious as to how well they work. I have an Alpicool with dual zones but a single lid. I still haven’t had a chance to use it “in the wild.” But I also tested mine on my Jackery 1500. I think having cold food to take up physical mass and hold the temps down will help also
@cathysupp9493
@cathysupp9493 2 жыл бұрын
What works well is to insulate the INSIDE cut a soft foam piece, place on top of the stacked food creating a barrier to the air inside cooler Remember to dry it out in the sun occasionally (even if wrapped in plastic) to kill mold spores When the fridge & freezer space if full it retains the cold best As your supplies dwindle down the foam piece laying on top helps to keep the cold air down surrounding the food as warmer air rises....stays above the foam

I have seen those cooling sleeves as well in fact many of the retailers sell them now. I know in hotter climates they would definitely come in handy especially whenever you’re in the heat of the dry areas such as the desert.

Great review, this would be the worse case scenario to test in, as most vans will be insulated and not have to cool from your hot Texas heat.
@BunnyPlaysHere
@BunnyPlaysHere 2 жыл бұрын
That’s exactly why I wanted to do it this way. If the worst case scenario it’s still run and then also run for a significant amount of time and it has value for the average person that as much longer than this. So I wanted to make sure that everyone knew that if it could withstand these particular circumstances it would more than likely work in the regular circumstances

Thank you for this. I am figuring 50% of power gone overnight (estimate) and during the day the jackery will also be charging, either with fixed panels on roof or portable in campsite. Now we need the same test now that it is at Temps for fridge and freezer.

Hey Bunny, I see that power draw was pretty significant for a 24hr period. Without sufficient solar coming in it would be only a cooler the next day.. something for me to think about. I wanted to go straight freezer for mine, I have a Setpower EA35 (not dual zone) setup as a fridge running off my Jackery Explorer 500. I live in Florida and work from my van and it's pretty hot here. I do not have mounted solar. I rely on my alternator and driving from job site to basecamp for the night. If I'm static I do put up my foldable 120w solar panel to charge my Jackery for as long as I can if I'm urban vancamping. I don't always have enough sun time to do this and struggle with power priorities. I use the Jackery for my fridge only because I have other smaller power banks for cell phone, tablet, cameras and USB rechargeable fans. Thus, the power struggles are real...ponder and adventure on!!!

This is unit being run in extreme temps without insulation and only for a test. More so than anything this test was performed to be a test as to worst case scenario. Under normal circumstances this would perform using far less wattage. Also my parents will have solar they determined so this will work just great!

@@BunnyPlaysHere yeah I agree, with the right conditions it will do good. But testing in worst conditions is best so the expectations will not be "best guess" answer instead. There's always going to be a rainy or severe overcast day ahead.

Nice testing and use demo 👍 Very quiet, how much heat does it put out? I intend to replace my 3 way fridge with a portable when ever it dies.....digging for items at the bottom seems a fair trade off for efficiency and energy savings *your dad has the advantage of building it in place & it's a perfect seat hight
@BunnyPlaysHere
@BunnyPlaysHere 2 жыл бұрын
Yes I wanted to make sure whatever that they were getting that they had early enough in the build so they could create a space specifically for it. This is a larger style unit but also will pack a lot of things for making the journey so much better. The quietness of it really does help because the compressor is not loud also. I’ve looked at the refrigerators previously and their compressors were a bit more noisy So set Power definitely has done this one right

I prechill my cooler with frozen containers of water before I load in food. I assume that could be done with the fridges to save on power usage when starting them up, yes?
@BunnyPlaysHere
@BunnyPlaysHere 2 жыл бұрын
I definitely would usually recommend this however for this test I wanted to show what it would be like to just get it out of the box and immediately plug it in and how long it would take for the average person who doesn’t have the luxury of a static plug-in at home. A lot of people do purchase things and ship them directly to the campsite so I wanted to have this as a reference because so often we only see the videos of the pre-chilled units.

Looks like a pretty great price of equipment for a van build. Two thoughts: does it get so hot that the Jackery or the Fridge components would overheat and fry? I’ve killed an iPhone sleeping it on it in the summer before! So I’d be nervous leaving expensive electrical devices in a 95+ heat in a metal box van with no insulation. Also does the fridge come with a regular house plug? If someone travels like you and has a base camp, you think you could save battery power, and probably a significant amount of time, by getting the fridge down to temperature before putting it in the van?
@BunnyPlaysHere
@BunnyPlaysHere 2 жыл бұрын
Ideally yes you can make sure you get it cooked to temp before heading out however for this test I really wanted to focus on how long in worst case conditions it would take to cool and if it could in fact maintain the temp. It did really well keeping up with the exterior heat and cooling. Jackery is built for being outdoors so it performs well in heat as well as cool so it is much more durable than a typical cell phone so I wasn’t concerned using it in these temps.

That poor compressor cant evacuate the heat in yhise ambient temps. I understand this is a torture test and im impressed with the results. Ive ordered this unit and other reviews reveal to use the smaller side as the freezer as it is closer to the compressor and is more efficient. Just in case it fails for some reason i will freeze a gallon jug of water to buy some time for the fridge side.

Looks like that fridge is great for what your parents need. Curious Bunny.. once the Jackery 1000 completely drains... you're off grid and won't be driving.... how do you keep the fridge cool while you are charging the Jackery with solar panels? Two jackery's? or can you keep refrigerator plugged into the jackery while charging with solar panels? I'm new at this. Thanks!
