Zero isn't constantly angry in the original japanese dub. She just wants to work as efficiently as possible, thus she tells the other guys to shut up or she will kill them. She doesn't sound angry at all when she says that, and she also doesn't mean to really kill them. After having reached Ending A, you can see that there is more to her character than you thought up to that point.

Localizers don't alter mouth movements in games. if that is ever done AT ALL, it's done by the devs. but usually all the localizers do is try to time the dialogue to match the mouth flaps. (which is near impossible to do if the mouth is more realistically animated.

This game is currently sitting as my GOTY. It's combat is jank, it's framerate is garbage, and it's characters are all assholes... and it may be one of the best things I've ever done to myself. The music is beautiful and manic at time, its humor is awkward and forced to the point of being adorable, it's lore is split between reading outside sources (the novella that you can read on the website. I have the Collector's Ed, so I have a hard-copy) and DLC that fill in much needed blank-spaces in characterization, the requirement to getting to the final arc is to replay sections of the game in order to obtain all the weapons in the game, its final boss... exists, and every ending waves its dick in front of the face of anyone expecting a fulfilling, happy ending... ...I love everything about this game and Yoko Taro. I hope he continues to get work. This isn't a game that was meant to be reviewed objectively (because it falls the fuck a PART), but subjectively. Its a series that you need to "get," and that's no easy task nor will normal people be able to do... and that's fine. Yoko Taro stated on Facebook that this game is for weird people, and I'm more than happy to be a weird person. :)

TheBackwardsLegsMan Eh, not exactly. I mean it kind of is but it's quite a popular game series in Japan, or so I am told. It's always been here in America too and it's here that it's much more niche. But largely because we don't have a lot of variety in our own games that anything weird or out of the norm is treated harshly. Or generally it is. Frankly I dislike that mentality. Nier is a pretty accessible game within the series and also happens to be the best installment as far as I'm concerned. It's so damn good that I easily rank it up there among the best games of this past generation. A lot of the issues you see in D3, such as the game censoring itself, are nowhere to be found in any other game in the series, as Liam promptly points out.

Just for the people who will never play the game and were left wondering: There IS a good reason why Zero is doing what she's doing and her sisters are all revealed to be super fucked up in the DLC and novellas. Drakengard 3 serves as a sort of ideological antithesis to Nier (the director's previous game). While Nier was about well-intentioned people who looked like heroes on the outside unknowingly doing some fucked up shit, Drakengard 3 is about a seemeingly evil and selfish antihero actually doing the right thing and fighting for the greater good even if the world misunderstands her actions. Just some food for thought.

Do I actually care enough about this paper thin joke plot to keep playing now that the enemies are doing enough damage that I should start grinding? The answer was no. Note: anyone about to read further who hasnt played or finished nier yet, i dont recommend reading ahead. i mean...according to grimmoire nier, a book adding info, after the true end kaine goes off to wander, leaving yonah alone, and in her travels she finds a small child. this child turns out to be nier reborn, the last rebirth, and kaine is compelled to take him under her wing cuz he seems familiar event hugh her memory is gone. that's not what makes me wonder how a sequal could work though...it's the fact the world is basically dead/falling apart after it's all over, and the book says even with that happening an alien race appears before earth saying their god proclaimed they need to be purged...kinda seems like the world of nier is doomed all things considered, so unless it's supposed to be before the aliens appear, or supposed to use the events in the book for its story, or before the events in nier even happened or the world fully collapsed/sunk i dont know. still excited as hell, wanna see how they do this.

I didn't think the ending that lead into Nier was the worst ending in context of the Drakengard world. Caim and Angelus defeated the queen beast and though they were killed too by the military fighter planes, I assume what they did saved their own world (though it fucked over ours). The one where they are eaten by those babies and Seere sacrifices himself and the one in which Furiae is turned and replicated into a shit ton of annoyingly hard monsters were the worst ones in my opinions.

I think any Drakengard ending that wasn't ending A ended with the entire destruction of Caim's world. Ending B had Furiae's clones kill everyone, Ending C had the dragons kill everyone, Ending D had the Watchers and Seere freeze the world in eternal time stop, and Ending E ended up infecting our/Nier's world with the salt virus while still leaving Caim's world at the mercy of the Watchers. They're used to protagonists who are anti-heroes, like GTA or Red Dead Redemption. Even Renegade Shepard from Mass Effect is a hero. Or straight up heroes, like in most other games. They're also not used to sex being a prominent thing. A lot of people get turned off by the mere mention of anything sexual in video games. An MC who is blatantly a murderous, sex loving psychopath with greyed motivations is a breath of much fresher air than a 'normal' character. People keep comparing this to Drakengard 1 but they fail to realize it's almost literally more of the same, if not tamer. Zero is Caim if he were a girl and could talk. The party members in 1 were a cannibalistic elf and a blind pedophile. The party members in this? A sadist, a masochist, a sex crazed maniac and a know-it-all. It still hits a lot of weird points, and there was comedy in Drakengard 1 (though not as prevalent).
