It takes skill, problem solving ability, and a calm demeanor to be a pilot. It takes a cape, a big "S" on your chest and a good therapist, to be a controller at a major hub.

"And ma'am, unfortunately, due to a confluence of events which includes convective weather along J6, center controllers not as skilled as me, and aviators not as brave as you, you can expect a reroute, as soon as the lady in New York Center talks to her supervisor and can come up with one." had me in stitches. In one sentence, eloquence, information, snark, praise, and self-confidence. Bravo, sir.

I'm a retired security officer and during part of my career I spent time working at Hartsfield international back in the 90s. Quite a few of us had police scanners that we kept for our own use to listen to operations all over the airport depending on where we were posted ., so we could stay in the loop. If you wanted to experience chaos all you had to do was listen to, ground departure and ramp during a heavy push. Here it is years later I'm listening to Kennedy Steve and it brings back so many memories. Yes he really was as good as his reputation. The man was an absolute genius at controlling chaos. The man the myth the legend, in his case it definitely applies

I have so much respect for this controller. He pokes fun at pilots in a calmand respectful manner, makes pilots laugh, and keeps things positive always instead of being the typical "mundane" controller. On top of that, he's operating an insanely busy airport with crazy heavy traffic. Best controller I have ever heard.

You can tell how much respect all the pilots have for Kennedy Steve because the pilots follows his instructions without any attitude or questioning his directives. Kennedy Steve keeps the energy positive and everyone's attitude and spirits are always up and positive. No matter what is going on or how long some of the wait times or the departure schedule conflicts are. You can usually find laughter in the pilots voices after some of kennedy Steve's comments.

Aaaand _that_ one just broke me...I can not believe an _actual_ ATC opp just yelled "Other left". K, granted, the superimposed text on the screen said "On the left", but it sounded lile "Other left'....

Amazing amount of multitasking. Wonder how they do shift changes? I mean, they are in a “flow” so I’m assuming shift changes occur during “down time” (whenever that is).

I hadn't thought of that yet- interesting. How in the blippity blip does he do this!

I've seen old, old film footage of such things, and that says 'no down time' and even busier in modern times. The old: The 'new guy'/the shift change/ comes in to the center, but like several minutes early than the clock time assigned to him, and has to watch, and then blend, and then segue into the departing atc guy's chair, knowing everything he knew at the moment that he got up and left his shift, etc. That this is an airport like JFK blows my mind of getting that amount into my brain -- every change -- as the next one comes in for his/her shift. No wonder they can 'crack'.....

Then there's that one new ATC guy that wants to congratulate a great landing by shouting, "BRAVO!" and now everyone's messed up.

It's difficult to follow unless you have a map of the runways, taxiways and gates on the ramp, as well as some of the phraseology. Pilots spend a lot of their training learning standard radio etiquette and getting used to the blazing speed of some of the conversations. (The departure and approach conversations seem to be much faster than this, presumably because everything happens much faster at 200 knots than taxi speeds)
