Best Garage Flooring Options and Easy DIY Tile Install (Makeover Complete!)

The last garage makeover upgrade I need to tackle before getting back to car projects is the flooring. Inevitably, rebuilding and restoring cars is a dirty messy endeavor and my concrete slab shows it. In the interest of protecting my slab as well as giving the workspace an aesthetic appeal, I began researching the available options and settled on flexible PVC tiles from Garage Flooring Inc as the best solution. I also provide commentary for pros and cons of other options such as epoxy flooring, vinyl rolls, and rigid tiles (i.e. SwissTrax or RaceDeck).

Have you had an opportunity to test whether they are fluid tight or not?

A little. I have not had any fluids leak through, but I also haven’t had huge messes. I would guess the only time it could leak is if you had long exposure to standing water. I don’t think I would be concerned about water getting through after parking a car that had just been out in the rain. The tiles fit really tight together and as long as the slab below is flat, I think they are fairly watertight.

Yes! It has been easy to clean and I really like the way it looks. I was worried it would be hard to roll stuff like stools or engine stands on, but it’s really not bad. It hasn’t moved or shifted in anyway I can tell. They are expensive, but I don’t have any regrets or buyer’s remorse.

Do the tiles provide some insulation for the floors or is it still cold when you walk on it? Thanks

They will get as cold as the concrete for the most part, but sitting or laying on them they won’t feel as cold as concrete as it does have a little insulate value. These are thick vinyl.

How would this hold up to welding splatters?

Big sparks or sparks close to the surface would probably leave marks. If I am doing anything that might spark I either throw a blanket down or I have some metal pans just to be careful.
