I didn't watch this for the longest time. I'm generally not a Roma con kinda guy. I also am often disappointed in gay movies. Bad acting, low budget etc or just obviously NOT written by gay writers. Mainstream movies that have gay or LGBT characters are getting better but, still have a long way to go. I decided to give this a try and was very, very surprised. I really, REALLY enjoyed it. Like other comments I've seen, I feel its a shame there wasn't budget and backing for a limited series to take more time developing their relationship but, even still it was an amazing story. Great chemistry between the leads. The sex scenes were beautiful,and romantic not just a token bit of skin. The best part was, at no time did anyone seem like the stereotypes so often portrayed. Just guys who fell in love.

@bookie5667 Жыл бұрын
There are so many reaction videos on KZbin for this film, but I think this is my favourite because it reflects how I feel. There are lots of LGBTQ+ films, but most are aimed at a niche market. This is the first film I've seen that's mainstream, and not afraid to show intimacy between a same sex couple. IMO other films feel forced and awkward, or things seem rationed / measured to meet some quota or another. However, this film is different... AT LONG LAST! There's a chemistry between the two leads that's so natural. It's such a shame this is happening at a time when bigotry and hate are on the increase...
@Courtney-Jai Жыл бұрын
That makes me feel very special also I feel the same esy I didn't feel like I was watching a "gay" movie I felt like I was watching a reimagining of romeo and Juliet. It felt like another great roscom then trying to be the next queer movie the chemistry between the actors sold the movie so well.

This is hands down the best reaction I have seen on the film. (And I’ve watched more than a few now!) The scene at New Year’s during the dance when “ere’body got low” and they were facing each other like the only two people in the room. Damn. It broke me, and I was in floods. Last thing I’ll say: I am so grateful that they portrayed the sex scene between these two men as loving and meaningful. As we live in a time of hook-up sex, it was beautiful to see a representation of love, and not lust alone. ❤️
@Courtney-Jai8 ай бұрын
I actually am planning a video on the sex scene to cover exactly why it makes the movie change from a good film to a great one

@@Courtney-Jai I cannot wait to see it! I’d love to hear your take on it. (I also realize that I may have made my original comment sound preachy regarding hooking-up.) I have nothing against it! God knows! You-do-you, etc. And I most certainly have been no saint in my time, and with few regrets; but I simply thought it made for a welcome change to see a portrayal where, in addition to wanting to rip someone’s clothes off, there was genuine affection as well. As fairy-tail-ish (pun) and even unrealistic as transatlantic flights to get your man may be, it was so well done. Seeing two beautiful and sexy young men falling in love made me happier than I can say. In my opinion only, I would love to see as many scenes like this, as we see in the sex-for-sex sake scenes. Love both. 🙂

Thank you ever so much for what I feel is the sweetest first reaction video of this movie, which is truly changing my being. Your sincere reaction is welcome and heartwarming, and I'm so glad that like me, you had not read the book, and did not make any unreasonable expectations for what you were going to see. Matthew Lopez, the director, I think said it best, that Casey's book is Casey's book, and he was making *his* movie. I would say that now, it is OUR movie, those of us who love it. At this point I have also taken in the book, and I believe they are both good in their own ways; neither one "better." This movie though, is having such an amazingly positive effect on my life that I am just buoyant, I find myself more optimistic in just about every way, and I hope that more will experience it. Love wins!

One of my favorite moments (among dozens) is when Alex is flying back to England to fix the mess. Amy is quizzing him and he brings up the issue of why anyone would name their dog David. She says her dog is named Jonathan. Alex remarks "yeah, that is the only thing weird about you." She said that that is her son they are talking about. Alex and she quickly shift to discussing how cute her dog is and he says eagerly that he wants to see photos. Most people are bored by such pictures but he makes it clear in that brief moment that he cares about other people's feelings. (I love Amy.) Also in the hospital, she opens the door of the closet and says the threat had been neutralized. Alex asks what does she mean. She says "good thing he is in a hospital" but she gives a quick wink.

In the cake scene I LOVE how Taylor channels Michael Crawford (Some Mother's Do 'Ave 'Em) with the wide eyed shock. The most moving part was the scene that gave the DOP, Lighting, and Grip departments nightmares. The permission to film in the actual Victoria And Albert Museum came with conditions. The most difficult one was that no outside lighting equipment was permitted in the Museum. A wise move indeed. It took really careful planning to make the Museum scene come to life. Then when Alex plays the music, it is heart stopping in the simple beauty.

On your recommendation some months ago, I watched the movie. I do like a good story and this was well done even given the obvious plot holes.

I read this book years ago and it's one of my favorite books, especially queer books out there. As a bisexual I felt so seen personally in Alex's storyline. I love the movie, and I think for 2 hours or however long it is they did a good job. There's some stuff I personally would change, but it's still an amazing movie. That being said! I think the book is so much better haha. The part where I fell in love is with the turkey scene! It's so well-written and perfect. But there's a line in the book which isn't really much of a spoiler (and you just watched the movie haha) and it's: "He thinks, as he runs and runs and runs, the stupidest thing of all is that he's straight. Like he's pretty sure he's straight." And then a bit further into the pages: "Straight people, he thinks, probably don't spend this much time convincing themselves they're straight." This hit hard for me because I really struggled with figuring out my sexuality because I am attracted to the opposite sex. I'm not fully a lesbian, but I'm also interested in women and it just really connected with how I had to think in order to perceive myself as "not straight" haha. I hope you read the book and you fall in love with it! I think my favorite character has to be Zahra or Alex. Nora is high up there. I missed June from the movie so much. Over all so much fun seeing you react to this. Can't wait to hear your thoughts on the book later on!

It is the rom--com we need right now. It's note perfect for the "Hallmark" rom-com but with queer representation.

@@Courtney-Jai, it was so heart warming watching you watch the movie. My husband and I watched it several months ago. We discussed how it was nice to see a gay themed film not ending in some type of tragic demise. Everyone is happy, except for the pip squeak brother. Wait a second, could the sequel open with the brother dying in some type of dramatic plane crash and suddenly Henry is the new heir to the throne?!!! I know such speculation is tacky, but it would make for an interesting turn.

I had almost given up on films or tv shows about gay couples because they usually end badly. I loved RWRB because actually it's a fairy tale. I think it has started something new and it's beautiful. Besides, I loved the humour.

If you liked this I'd recommend heartstopper it's abit more Disney, I'm almost in it. It's a lovely story though.

i didnt get emotional watching this film the first time but watching it with you gave me more depth and understanding and putting myself in their shoes. when ellen gave her winning presidential speech, i started tearing up but i had to swallow it cause i was in public! 😂 i think they shouldve included the campfire scene where henry opens up to alex. but overall its still rrally good comparzd to the book.

Hate to be (Bi)ased here but my favorite character from both book and movie is very much Alex. Not only because we share a sexuality and ethnicity (Hispanic-American), but also bc he has such a beautifully positive heart (as you pointed out in their pillowtalk scene). And despite how chill he seems in the movie about labeling his sexuality, in the book you really get to understand his journey with accepting it after him and Henry share the NYE kiss. That moment triggers self-reflection for him, he looks back at his life and realizes the clues were always there but he didn't have the knowledge/vocabulary to explain his feelings. It's so freaking relatable, his character will always have a special place in my little bi heart.
