For the last 18 months I've not let the lawn crew edge or use a weed eater in my back yard. kzbin.infoUgkx_rBCFuDW1zD6blTGhLkvAkxU657uR_lG I didn't like the fact that they just kept cutting the edge of the lawn further and further from the rock lining the flower beds and leaving bare ground. And the grass was trimmed or scalped several feet around trees, etc. It was a constant battle with them so I told them to just mow and no trimming. I have Zoysia grass so it grows pretty slow. Obviously after a while it could use some trimming. I'm in my 80's so I can't do much of it myself. Finally I decided that if I could find a lightweight battery powered trimmer I might be able to do some light trimming. I decided to buy the LST201 20V trimmer. And it works great for my needs. I have back yard with about 150' of flower beds and several trees to be trimmed. I can lightly trim the whole yard with a single charge! The grass I trimmed was only a few inches high but the trimmer was more powerful than I expected.

I notice that many electric trimmer (strimmer) manufacturers have taken to designing the line in sealed cassettes. If the line breaks then you have to throw it way and they cost $7.50. In addition you have to make sure you get the right ones, the Flymo I just bought is still the old type.

What I was waiting for---was if any of these can use a variety of Cutter's, like the Steel Wire cups, usd for clearing mosss and other crap from edging and pathways.

Today I got a Sprint cordless strimmer and it is more or less the exact same as the Murray apart from the colour with the exact same battery.

Petrol all the way for me personally. I cant deal with the faffing of charging or those hidden costs of line or additional batteries which isnt cheap. If the battery and cabled ones work for you then great, but if youre not in your own garden then from my perspective it needs an engine. The multi attachment ones are probably the best to go for if you can wait for the delivery and suffer the cost hit (cos B&Q dont stock them) and yes they are not as cheap as the £50 efforts but consider what you are using it for, where youre possibly going to / could use it and the frustration of charging / finding a socket and extension lead to get it working. Batteries have a life so just cost that into your costings equation. A £70 strimmer is fine but if its battery powered then its got a life of about 3 to 4 years. Always cost up an additional battery when purchasing, just my advice.

would suggest either the ParkerBrand 52cc Petrol Garden Brush Cutter Grass Trimmer or Ryobi 25.4CC 2-in-1 Petrol Full Crank Grass Brush Cutter both well under 200 pounds

You can get a good condition working used Honda or Kawasaki petrol strimmers for around the £100 mark . Or a good old Spear & Jackson 2 sroke petrol strimmer for under £100. The cordless rechargeable ones run out of power too soon and the corded electric ones are frustrating as your always faffing about with the cable that constantly gets in the way or snagged on things.
