QQQM is my growth ETF, it’s basically identical to the QQQ but a cheaper expense ratio. It’s for long term holders compared to QQQ which people tend to trade all the time.

I have a brokerage account, a Rollover IRA and a Roth IRA. In my Rollover, I have APPL shares, VTI & VUG. My Roth has APPL shares and SCHD. In my brokerage account, I have about 35% SCHG, 35% SCHD and 30% VOO and I'm buying more of all 3 of those as often as possible. Maxing out my Roth in January of each year and then funding my brokerage account throughout the entire year with as much money as I can possibly muster. I'm borderline obsessed with funding my accounts with as much money as possible. In the near future, I'm looking at adding XLV and some individual dividend stocks to my accounts. I love investing!

What was the reason for putting in different accounts (Rollover and Roth and Brokerage)? Are the ones that mentioned have different tax rates and that's why you put them in those accounts or it is just random?

Very useful info especially the overlap analysis. The fact that the growth equities are not taxed until you take profit vs dividends makes it important to have both type of investments. Dividends in IRA accounts are safe from taxes.

Funny enough, I have a VERY similar portfolio to this! Here is mine: Roth: VGT QQQM SCHD Individual: VGT QQQM SCHD SCHG VUG VTI IVW DGRW Personally, I begin by constructing a super portfolio of individual stocks. Then I find which indexes with as little overlap as possible own those stocks. And I choose the best growth indexes. SCHD will be my divided index into retirement so I’m building it a bit ahead of time in both accounts.

@@DividendGrowthInvesting so rebalancing with the total market and a growth etf? Or would the total market be something you keep?
@DividendGrowthInvesting
@DividendGrowthInvesting 4 ай бұрын
@@nathanlanders9208 Well there are more ways to look at this. Think of it as one investment (DGRO/SCHD) are where you buy and hold them forever and just live off the income. Whereas with VTI and other growth ETFs like SPYG/SCHG are there to help you grow your portfolio value and in the future you will rebalance out of them aka sell them and buy something else. Maybe at that point in your life you want to buy a house or a car etc.. or you rebalance out of growth and into more income investments like SCHD/DGRO. A lot of ways to look at it. I hope this helps

Hi, you often mention SCHD and DGRO for Roth. Are these in there with your VGT and VTI?
@DividendGrowthInvesting
@DividendGrowthInvesting Жыл бұрын
Well it depends on your strategy and your time horizon. For example, we invest in SCHD/DGRO in our taxable account because we want to live off the dividend before the age of 59.5. We invest in mostly growth in our Roth IRA with VGT and VTI. After the age of 59.5, we plan to sell VGT and VTI and either buy a house/car etc, or buy more high dividend stocks/ETFs. Don't let this confuse you because you could easily do the opposite with your accounts and it wouldn't be wrong. It depends on your overall strategy and goals.

Wonderful video like always. I'm very torn as a lot of people I've talked with say DON'T invest in dividends at my age (23) and only focus on growth as the dividends would end up hurting me more than helping me due to taxes. What are your thoughts on this? If I focus entirely on growth (VOO, QQQM, SCHG) can I still transition into dividends closer to retirement? I was thinking of putting dividends etfs in Roth IRA instead of my taxable account.
@richardspencer742
@richardspencer742 Жыл бұрын
Depends on your goal. If you want to retire early and live off your dividends you need to start early. If you are not wanting to retire until after 59 1/2 then that strategy of going for only growth funds is likely VERY true. I say likely as no one can accurately predict what is going to happen.

I like VTI more than VOO because you are getting the entire market. You cant really go wrong with either VOO or VTI. If you NEVER want to sell your shares, SCHD/DGRO is better to live off the dividend income. If you plan to sell part of your portfolio, I like having VGT and VTI for growth that you will sell in the future to buy a house/car or rebalance into higher yielding dividend stocks/ETFs. You could have a combination of both (SCHD/DGRO and VTI/VGT) in both a taxable and a roth IRA if you wanted. It depends on your strategy.

ETF distributes losses to other companies? No, it doesn't. It is just like holding all the different companies directly. If one goes down, that's a loss. The advantage to individual companies is that you can sell out of the one(s) declining and distribute the proceeds elsewhere before it goes down to 0. The advantage to a fund is you don't (and cannot) do that management and eventually the loser will be dropped from the fund, but not quickly.

The problem with your picks is that the dividends are way too low! There's ETF's with better dividends and safe for the long term.

I've been going back and forth over whether to sell my Apple and Costco stock and just put it into a growth fund like these. I mean most of my money is in SCHD and DGRO, so it makes sense, but I find it hard to pull the trigger on that one! 😂

You mentioned your son’s fund or IRA. Can you do Roth for him? I’ve heard mixed opinions on this. I heard that IRS says that they need to be employees etc..
@DividendGrowthInvesting
@DividendGrowthInvesting Жыл бұрын
In order to fun an IRA, you have to show income on a w2. We could get creative and for example, if he did work around the house or supported a business we had, we could pay him and he could claim that against his taxes and be able to invest into a Roth IRA. That is just one example.

I think you have too much VTI. I only have it in my individual account, and it has less weighting than anything else because it has less growth than all the ETFs…. In your Roth, I would put VGT and QQQM. I add SCHD only with a mind toward future dividend construction but this is also a deficient grower vs the rest so I don’t want too much in it right now.
@DividendGrowthInvesting
@DividendGrowthInvesting Жыл бұрын
I really like VTI because it is a hedge against the unknown. I have no idea what the world will look like in 20+ years. I like having VTI because I don't have to predict what will happen. I think QQQM would be a great addition to consider. For the time being, I only have VGT, VTI, VXUS, and VNQ in my Roth IRA.
