I am an old Yank (79) and I find the Haka to be the most impressive chant I have ever seen. Would love to learn how to do it, but sure my time has passed. Also seems to me there are many different chants for different occasions.

No no no - it is a common misconception that all Polynesian war dances are called "Haka" when in actual fact, at 1:40 is the Tongan "Sipi Tau" and the Samoan "Siva Tau" is at 2:45. To merge them as "Haka", which is a New Zealand Māori war dance, is being disrespectful to our Tongan and Samoan relatives by disregarding their uniquely beautiful cultures and this is how culture is lost over time... so please STOP with the MISINFORMATION!!!

The osie is always stealing the limelight, you know how they are mate, they stole the land of New Zealand from the original people enslaved them and ate them, they then sold the land to the white man for axes and blankets because he never owned or loved it, if you steal something someone will steal it from you because you have not worked for it and have no respect for it. At least the white man gave them a lawful and fair treaty and took them from the stone age and near extinction, unlike the Maori who ethnically cleansed this land of the original people

@@robertstewart302 bro! Wtf are you talking about? Maori got the treaty because the "white man" Were losing the battle of wiping the Maori out! If they had half the chance there would be no such thing a treaty of waitangi to this day. Do ya get it?!!

Thanks for expanding our knowledge bro! Those dances deserve their place. It's the rivalry between NZ & AU that gets all the attention. I love the fact that win, lose, or draw, the Samoans and Tongans are always happy to be there representing and they never fail to entertain. Big love from Australia.

William Maxwell what happened to the Aussies? I'm an Australian and I would never turn my back or take offense to the haka or a war dance as I'm sure the majority of Australians are aware it isn't meant as an insult but the opposite and means they see you are a worthy opponent. It's a great tradition and fires everyone up for the game.

@dranwulf777 6 жыл бұрын
Donald Duck Well to make a warrior clan. You must first take control of land and kill anyone who threatens your taken land. Your people may be seen as thieves and bandits for a couple of hundred years but in the end you will be known as a warrior clan. Biggest problem is the threats around you would be unimaginably high and the chance of your people dying would increase.

Theres no relevant traditional war dance for all countries... These war dances that the polynesian culture performs takes it way back when tonga and samoa and fiji and all those pacific nation had war and before they fought each other they used to perfom hakas and war dances... You see not every nation has the same meaning to their culture like the pacific nations... Pacific culture is so diverse from other traditional belief
