it got that nice 'slice of life' but without any of the ''perfect morality'' stuff ofc we enjoy it being read! or well at least i do.. to often stories like these paints humans as figuring out space travle and then starting dedicating their whole civ to just fly around and turn all planets into nature preserves etc but humanity expanding due to war , and some parts of it trying to do some extra golden rule & future slow burn future diplomatic native relations stuff in the process ,hel yhee!

Dude this was great. An alien yet relatable race, microculture prospective. Just a very good slice of life meets the fantastic.

I love how they are still stuck in tribal stage due to no way to produce fire. Edit: As multiple people have pointed out, even if they DID find some way to produce heat, (like via underwater volcanic activity) it still would not work. So yes, this is as advanced as they could probably get on their own.

One of the most realistic depictions of underwater sentients, you need an easy way to make a fire to actually develop as a race, all aliens depicted would need to be at least be amphibian with good hands, and roughly human proportioned or they will not flourish.

by the look of this they had good manipulators and being in close proximity to volcanic vents was a significant part of their culture, probably for those obsidian tools they like so much, so it's not exactly a dead end for them either, just probably a big handicap...I wonder what the landmasses look like: for oceans as life-dense as is implied you need some sort of large scale soil interchange happening with the water to enhance conditions for the microbiology forming the foundation of the biosphere's energy economy (or some other fluid, water really is truly excellent for acting as a basis for wildly diverse chemistry though). I also wonder why obsidian tools are the iconic one, chirt was by far the most common and we used pretty much any kind of rock that can be pressure flaked or even just caused to break somewhat predictably along a flat-ish plane, though those are usually one and the same, oh! and copper, lots of copper, especially in europe since it was quite literally just sitting on the ground in scattered regions across half the continent. heck, even bone tools are famous when 99+% of the time it would be wood.

@jaredflynn3750 Жыл бұрын
@@evernewb2073 well id say they use obsidian because it would be high in supply around the volcanic vents on the ocean floor seeing as obsidian is volcanic glass/slag and yeah i could see them harnessing the geothermal vents heat to start manipulating metal but figuring that out without having ever discovered fire or metallurgy is a tall order so ehh.

you may already be aware of this, but I'll say it anyway just in case: While it doesn't have a narration by NetNarrator yet, the story does have a part 2 on reddit! Reminds me of an anime I watched years ago, like 2014 years ago, a new anime with the new ( now old ) anime artstyle, they were magical humanoid highschool fish people students with water magic shit, doing some transfer student shit. And there was a dude who was anti human, a girl who was pro human and had a crush with a human Highschooler.
