I did this a couple days ago on a Sunday. Even though the parking lot was full. I was the only one at the two beaches at the very end of King's Highway. Nice that there was light rain on the way back.

We did this hike today. Wish we would have watched your video BEFORE we took the hike because we were looking for the "light house". Great videography!

That side trail is more than likely one created and used by locals to access that spot to fish from the cliff there. If you look closely you can see pipes that have been concreted into place to hold fishing rods in place so that they can fish with multiple rods simultaneously. The plank bridge would be to make it easier for them to more easily get over that gap with all their fishing gear instead of having to climb down and back up again. Of course, they'd have the additional burden of bringing their catch along with their gear back over the gap when they were done. BTW, the so-called cultural sites are pretty likely heiau, which were temples, or worship sites, of the native Hawaiians and can be found throughout the islands. It would be considered a desecration for commoners to walk on them as well as being potentially physically destructive (knocking the rocks loose) if people are walking all over them. Appreciate your thoughtfulness to respect them and to speak of that necessity to your viewers.

I live near La Perouse bay! It’s such a gorgeous place to hike (as long as you don’t skin your knees on sharp lava rock lol). Kihei doesn’t have a ton of hiking so it’s def a great suggestion!

We will be there in Dec. how long is that hike round trip to the lighthouse and back?
@TheDetouristGuide3 жыл бұрын
It could be done pretty quickly. Probably less than 2 hours if you move at a good pace and don't do as much exploration as we did.

Greattt! Video it seems on the easy side but awesome views and good advice on the footwear don’t want to roll an ankle out there. Might bring an umbrella for my girlfriend for sun 🌞 lol. How far down the trail did you make that secondary trail that led you to the coastal area with the wood plank? I’m staying in Wailea so this is close by and be there in 3 weeks!! Thanks again

Thanks Don! It's a great little hike if you're staying in the south Maui area (Kihei/Wailea/Makena) for sure, and the side trail was about 2/3 of the way to lighthouse.
