Best Hot Reuben Sandwich in Philly, Hershel's East Deli in Philly. Is it better than Kat'z Deli NYC?

In this episode I visit Hershel's East Side Deli located in the Philadelphia Reading Terminal Market. They are known for their amazing Pastrami and corn beef sandwiches. I ordered the hot reuben sandwich which is made to order. Piled on high pastrami topped off with cheese thousand island dressing, sauerkraut, swiss cheese and toasted it to perfection. In my opinion I think Hershel's reuben sandwich is better than Kat'z Deli in New York City. If you're visiting or just want a satisfying sandwich come try this Jewish Deli located in the Reading Terminal Market.

Yo JL, Hershel's always been that GAME CHANGING spot!!! I always got my sandwiches from the Terminal back when I worked at Loews Philly. When I was in the mood for some Hot Pastrami, Hershel's was the spot to hit. Shot out to you for finally put them on so now the people here in Hawaii will know what I'm talking about in regards to some damn good sandwiches coming from out of Philly other than Cheesesteaks and Hoagies.

Lived in Philly for 14 years. Loved every second of it. 92' to 2006. Made some of the best friends in my life. Some of the best food anywhere, also an amazing culture and history. Philly made my early 20's to mid 30's some of the best years of my life to this day. Even better, I met my amazing wife in Philly. If we didn't love the current state we live in (Colorado) so much, we would move back to center city in a second. FYI... Tony Luke's or Dalessandro's. No question....

I just got back from a conference in Philly. Every time I go to Philly, which is at least once a year, my first stop after dropping my bags is Herschel’s East Side, for a pastrami sandwich. Whether it is pastrami and cheese, the Rachel, or the Reuben, it has always been fabulous and fills me with joy! Your staff is the best and clearly take pride in what they do. The best corned beef at reasonable prices in the mil are the place on 17th and walnut and the corned beef hut on 76th off of appleton. Both places charge less than$9 . With chips or fries and a drink and a pickle.

That looks really good. Everything’s good at Reading Terminal. They’re having a hard time during the pandemic. Business is down by 50%. They started a GoFundMe campaign. Bassett’s is good for turkey sandwiches, good turkey salad and turkey platters. Bassets has great ice cream. Been there over 100 years. I also like the Sang Kee Peking duck house for a roast duck and rice platter. Famous Fourth Street cookies has the best chocolate chip cookies. Beiler’s donuts are the best in the city. The Dutch Eating Place has Pennsylvania Dutch food. So many good things. DiNics is famous for their roast pork and roast beef sandwiches.

You can get sandwiches that good anywhere outside of Philly. I live in Boston and came down to Philly when my uncle died to help her. She took me to a pub in Harleysville that made the best Rueben sandwich I ever had. And I've had Katz's. Not enough love is given to the town delis in the Philly burbs. Ray's pizza in Lansdale. Best and biggest cheesesteaks you'll ever have. Best Italian hoagies too.

I went to pa last year this market is lit. They got the Amish donut place. So many good places. That one spot the mint lemonade I forget the name it’s like a Greek place I think.
