The triple whammy of this joke is brilliant. From the outset you already know these kids are acting and looking very mature, then you get to the coffee, and you are thinking this is as far as this joke is getting or at least you think you know where is going and then BAM! you get blindsided by that last comment that is so adult, that you can either laugh or be shocked like the boy. @matvangogh the captain in zero hour is John Wayne. And Airplane follows the script so closely that they bought the rights to zero hour to avoid any lawsuits even though parody is legal. It's a real trip to watch it as you mentally hear the Airplane jokes under the serious scenes.

i watched this movie in the cinema when it came out. remember getting loads of strange looks as i was the only person laughing at certain times in the movie. my date very angrily asked what i was laughing at.??. well i explained that it was a jet aircraft and every time they show the outside you hear propellers.. everyone started laughing at it after that...

That line could have opened alot of doors for her. But maybe she gave up acting just to have a normal childhood. Hollywood can be rather cruel to child actors.

The coffee scene is one of the few parts not taken from Zero Hour (1957), for which most of Airplane is basically a shot-for-shot parody remake. The original coffee scene is from Crash Landing (1958). The scene takes place at about 30 minutes into the movie, if you're interested.

The girl at 1:10 you can tell has a quick mind and genuinely gets the humor. All the other girls took a long time to react. It's funny watching the men too. Some watch the women, waiting for approval to react, others just laugh cause it's funny. Some of the women you can tell just laugh because it's expected, but don't get the joke. This clip could be a case study in human social dynamics.
