This is the epitome of what happened if a great solid script combined with good actors got put onto screen by a super talented director!! Even though I was not a fan of the actress in “A familiar stranger”, I love the visual techniques of telling an interesting story by the director, and later I found out that a drama I enjoyed “Provoke” is also from that director as well. But I didn’t know “Blossom” was directed by him as well… I am really enjoying the story so far; I loved that the pacing is just enough not to make things boring but also have room for character development and super palpable attraction and sexual tension between the two leads! This drama certainly puts the director on the list of talents I need to look out for!

It's been a while since I've heard AvenueX be so high-spirited and gush about a Chinese drama. I totally agree with you on Zeng Qingjie, I have seen some of his productions and thoroughly enjoyed them. I was going to wait till all 34 eps air, but dang the temptation to jump in is pretty high lol

Yup, I'm in love with it! The cinematography was what caught my eye immediately with the very first shot. You just knew this was different. The leads I very much like and the costumes are not overdone.

I love almost all of the characters in the drama. Especially the twin guard, Lu Ming and Lu Zheng. I cried when Lu Zheng dead 😭. Dou Ming in second life is so cute and sweet too, i love her. The fact that her personality changes because her mother didn't directly raise her is a great way to show that some of someone personality come from their environment. The main lead is interesting and lovely too, but i appreciate how well they present the side character. It's hard to find Chinese drama that respect side character as real people this day. In this drama they make me feel even the maid and guard is real people. They make me care about this little side character's life too. And as always, this director always have a beautiful shots. Beautiful shots, lovely character, engaging story telling. Absolutely beautiful. I'll wait for more of his work.

Initially I had reservations on watching this drama because I'm not too fond of Meng Ziyi (please don't come for me, eeks!), perhaps just stemming from watching her in variety shows hehehe, but my FYP kept on showing this drama and everything about it pulled me in closer and closer. So I decided to watch Ep 1... before I knew it I was on Ep 13. Put my foot in my mouth I guess. Highly recommend it for wrapping up the year :-D

I totally agree with this review. I stop watching the series if I cannot root for the leads of the series, some series nowadays just throw characters at us that aren't likeable. I think some writers/directors forget that viewers need to like and somewhat admire the lead's character before we can root for them and get attached. This series dedicated episode 1 to show us that the FL is such a good person, she married and did all her duties but she was bitterly betrayed by her husband and her own sister. Even the ML gets shown as a general who did everything to right what was wrong but only to find out that he had taken revenge on the wrong person(s). These two souls earned the viewer's hearts in just one episode, something that not a lot of series can do in 30+ episodes. I just hope the rest of the episodes are just as well written as the first 10 episodes that I've seen. Sometimes, I'm afraid to praise a series until I've seen it to the end. We have so many examples of series that start out so promising and they just jump off the cliff in the last 10 episodes. *fingers crossed*

I read the original book. Not only was it 500+ chapters , It’s was awfully drawn out and boring 💔💔 I need to applaud the director and other staff members for adapting it into such a masterpiece 🎉🎉. I am currently on episode 16 and i literally set an alarm for this drama. And you are right, this was a good drama to wrap up a year of failed dramas 💌

I started seeing a lot of posts and shorts on RED, China's IG I guess, and the clips I saw were really enticing. I can't really remember what made me start watching, but I'm definitely staying for the story and the chemistry between the characters. Really hoping the director and screenwriters won't let us down and finish the series strong.

YES! I find this drama storyline flows nicely and truth to be told, cinematically high quality too. With decent lighting and colour grading... Very mature characters and I loathe the stepmom so bad since her acting was so believable too...had to pause the scenes where the stepmom and uncle being such douchebags. SO GOOD!

Actually, I think it is far harder to write a good story in a fantasy setting, because on top of writing characters, plot and pacing, you have to create a consistent realistic fantasy world as well. Otherwise you end up with a fantasy setting that forgets its own magical rules. A good western Fantasy writing is Tolkien and Brandon Sanderson. Eastern example would be Jinyong's Books and 'I am Nobody'

Blossom is so good! SO GOOD!! It's even better than the novel tbh! I love how each character is given closure in a thoughtful way. Great visual narration, great character development, great plot twists. I just hope it's a happy ending, considering they're changing so much from the original source >_< the director has a good track record for happy endings, so fingers crossed!

Definitely a drama that has a great storyline and the storytelling is just different. Reminds me of the great old drama storytelling - straight to the point. Thoughts and details were definitely put into it. I haven't witness one like this in a while. Definitely the best among all the rebirth and rewatch value is high.

I enjoyed meng ziyi's royal rumours last year and this year; blossoms. The ML is also good in acting and is good looking in costumes. This drama is the result you get when everyone involved in a project are talented and intelligent. The audience is fed up with marketing without real value and when this type of drama is released, they will embrace it with wholeheartedly. For me, this is the best costume drama of 2024.

I have read this novel at least 3 times...that's how obsessed I was and I was soo happy when this drama started airing that re watched the 4 episodes multiple time too!! I am glad the show is actually good for others as well. I was worried I am being too biased and the rosy filter in my eyes are making something out of nothing! AvenueX is the authority for me for Chinese dramas and I feel so happy that she likes it too!!!

Hope your travels are going well!! This, too, was a watch that I didn't have high expectations from and probably one where it blew me away the most. I agree with everything you mentioned. Nowadays, we need more solid storytelling and camera work on top of acting. We can't just rely on the actors and actresses and fill in the gaps in our heads. I hope the standard for directors and scriptwriters will get higher or that viewers will hold them as accountable as the actors. Apart from that, it's not the perfect drama but really well done idol period drama. I think there's not a lot of chemistry between the two, but it's still done well. Just don't flop on me!!!

To be precise: its a so called "regression" not "reincarnation" or "rebirth". Distinctive differences. Regression = same character returns to a earlier state of the same lifetime with memories of life lived (all or mostly) intact. Reincarnation = the soul of the a character continues in a new character, usually in chinese mythology is being born again.

For me personally this is the best Cdrama of 2024. I didn't even know anything about this drama nor do I have any expectations regarding it. I watch it after seeing so much of the hype, and it didn't disappoint me. I'm so obsessed and so hook with it. This is probably the only drama so far that I didn't get bored in between while watching it, the more I watch the more I wanna more about the next plot & it's so addicting. I didn't even know Li yunrui before. I have even watch Produce Camp 2019 before but i didn't even realise he was a participant in that show until this drama & I went to re-watch then I realise he was there 😂. This drama is truly a breaking point for him & I'm so obsessed with him now 😂💚

I had a difficult cdrama year. I dropped a lot of dramas early even the most popular ones and was even thinking my love for cdramas had died until this drama came along and made everything right again. Tbh i never really like MZY previous works..and LYR character in LLTG makes me having mix feeling about him lol. So i was trying to watch this with no expectation at all but dang..it's good!! You've pointed all the best thing of this drama and i agree.. The director, scriptwriter, the entire production quality is excellent so far and i hope stays that way til the end. Oh and the main leads are so good! Both fit their character very well, and have great chemistry together. Really truly a very well done drama. I'm loving this. I love fantasy also, but is quite wonderful. I had to stop watching Eastern Fantasy, the lead actress's constant whining voice just really got to me. I've loved her in other things but this was just too much. This is such a welcome relief from that.

Same name, 九重紫。 The book is quite slow and different tho, both leads didn’t actually meet until ep 100 or something. They kept some of the main settings in the drama, fastened the pace and rearranged the meeting of the two. I prefer the drama tbh, both leads did so sell

Glad you mentioned short form and vertical dramas, I was wondering what the status of the actors and directors who do this work. Can they transition from these projects to regular dramas? Is there a stigma attached to working in them or is it seen as a good way of getting experience?

I feel this director can make anyone look and act well on camera so the drama is successful because of him and the scriptwriter. For me any ml/fl that is good looking would easily carry this drama unlike lgief it had to be ysx and dyx.

I love rebirth stories it is my favorite genre. It is a shame they aged up the FL as I liked her as her 12 year old self. She dealt with her stepmother quite well. I love that she sets out to gain all of this experience about business, managing people and medicine. I am looking forward to how she will amass enough people from different walks of life in order to do what she feels she must do. As an outsider I don't know if the costumes are correct but they look wonderfully practical to me and beautiful. The jacket with the bell sleeves and the skirt with the pleates on the sides (an example of the skirt Dior ripped off a few years ago I think). And the clothes don't drag on the floor, which is something I find offputting. Overall I am enjoying this drama and am glad they seem to be releasing episodes frequently.

I like it so far! I think the only thing is I don’t quite understand the “why” behind certain situations, for instance why exactly did the male lead’s uncle have to go meet the emperor (we know they say the emperor wouldn’t like if his subjects were more famed than him, but was that it?). But maybe I watched too fast, and will have to rewatch some parts. But overall, this is a good drama.

I enjoyed The Royal Princess tbh. I mean I see the not so great stuff but I still liked it. As for Love Game in Eastern Fantasy, I've completed it but Yu Shuxin is just wrong for me no matter what. That's why I didn't enjoy it much. I guess I'd like to see her play other types of characters, without the childish voice. I watched for other actors. Blossom sounds promising, and usually I like Meng Ziyi.
