Agreed! Such a cool system. I can’t believe how fast the seedlings have been growing too, will share an update soon!

I’m honest so impressed! I look at the “live view” of my little seedlings on the app more than I’d like to admit 😅😅 it has been a fun system to test out. Sometimes I’ll get that “oh shoot I forgot to water my plants” feeling but then I remember that it is doing literally everything for me. Very different experience from some of the other grow setups I’ve had over the years! I’ll post some updates for my first harvest, the leafy greens are already growing like crazy.

@@BrightLaneGardens Great, I love to obsess over the garden...this both gives and takes. A little less work and more fun playing with the app. I love the idea of the preprogrammed lighting and feeding schedule. Thanks so much for the video

What happens to the plants if the power goes out? How long will they last?

Great question! The roots are held in rockwool cubes so while the plants are small they’d be fine for a few days (rockwool stays pretty damp for a while). With larger plants I would definitely get in there with my watering can and water once a day. We have our tower near a large window so they would be fine without the light, but I would recommend moving it closer to a window if yours lost power for an extended period of time (more than 2 days). Once power is back on the system will reconnect to the most recent wifi signals and it recalibrates the light and water schedule. The camera on it actually tries to capture “symptoms” of the plants, I.e. if they look droopy due to lack of water or need a different light cycle etc. pretty impressed with it overall!

I looked into one of these for my daughter. 2 huge issues I have is the monthly subscription, because who wants to pay that. And the second is the fact that you have to use their proprietary square seed pods, meaning you have to always buy their very expensive seeds, from them. No thanks.

I was also not a fan of needing the subscription, and I haven’t bought it yet! When you first purchase the tower, you get a free couple of weeks with the subscription, and after that you can self control the lights and water timing. Takes extra effort of course, but compared to other hydro systems it’s much more hands off. We also load our own rockwool cubes, we just load them in the empty Y cubes and stick them back in the system. I will say that some of their own cubes seemed like they germinated faster than my own greens, but that could have been just a difference in variety! Another beginner friendly system is the deep water culture (DWC) bucket system. There’s a few kits for this, I have a video on my channel (DIY hydroponic bucket system) that does a walkthrough of the setup on this, just in case you’re interested :)
