This is the most helpful info I’ve seen in my anxious car seat shopping! Thank you! Question on the Cleck Liing, I have big babies and am expecting #3 in June. I saw a review from someone who said she had to switch her baby to a new seat around 7 months because the Liing was too narrow. Do you feel like it would be too small or narrow for a big baby?

Glad you found it helpful! We love the Liing, but all babies grow at different rates. Some will outgrow it and any other infant seat earlier than other babies will.

I’ve read reviews from people saying they think the material on Evenflo seats don’t feel as comfortable as others (like Chicco, for example). Would you agree with that? Does it seem like Evenflo isn’t as good quality for any reason?

I do not agree with that at all. We love Evenflo, they make a lot of great options.

I have been looking at carriers and they have either a rebound bar or a low leg. Do you recommend one over the other for safety?

There are a couple that have both like Nuna Pipa RX and Graco Premier SnugRide SnugFit 35 XT with load leg. Both are added safety features. There are a handful of vehicles that don't allow load legs, like Chrysler Pacifica, so that may be something to consider as well.

I have the Chicco Keyfit 30 and have done the manual re-threading but baby boy is still struggling with the head slump!! What do I do? I have done the pinch test and made sure there is no slack around his hips so he doesn’t slip down!

Check the recline on the base, you may be able to recline it more. But the only head slump that is problematic is when baby's chin is going straight down into the chest. If their head is tilted to the side even a little bit, that is fine.

I am looking for a car seat. I have to go with graco, because I already have a click connect stroller. Has there been any trouble with the canopy or connection to the base. I like the one you picked. I live in Florida, and I would like to choose something other than black. On the graco website, there’s not a lot of good reviews. But I certainly trust your judgment and will most likely pick this one if you believe it’s the best option. I’ve heard a lot of good compliments on the dlx. I would love your opinion, because I’m having a hard time picking a graco car seat.

Choose one of the versions that have SnugLock; it will be much easier to install. We love extra features around here like load legs and/or anti-rebound bars as well.

What is the difference between the Evenflo LiteMax and the Evenflo SafeMax? Would you recommend one over the other for any reason?

The main difference is that the SafeMax base has an anti-rebound bar. The infant seat itself is the same and the base installations are the same as well

What should be the timing for getting an infant car seat? As some infant car seats fit smaller babies (premies for example), I suspect being too early in the process might lead you to an incorrect choice for the size baby you are having. I am thinking after the baby is 32 weeks is a good time to make the purchase as you will have a sense from screening UltraSounds what size the child will be (minimum) at birth.

I would wait until 20 weeks at least. Most babies aren't going to be preemies. But if parents are concerned about having a smaller baby, they could just choose a seat that works well for small babies to begin with. What happens if a person locks in the seatbelt on a car seat or car seat base that has its own locking system? In other words, the seat belt basically gets locked twice.

We don't care for the newborn fit. We see the headrest causing chin to chest quite frequently.

Ours ended up getting replaced under warranty, so it's practically brand new. I guess I'll keep some money set back in case it doesn't fit well and we need a better option. My plan has been to start with it since we already own it and transition to the foonf once sitting independently. Thanks for all you do Michelle!

Actually, I just looked at the coming home video I took of our first, and I can definitely see the fit issues you're talking about. Knowing what I know now (after following you for a few years), I'll go ahead and start looking at better fitting seats for this go-around. Thanks again, Michelle. Most infant seats are around the same size, so any should work. But the ones I showed with a lock-off on the base are usually easier to work with in a 3 across situation. Clek Liing is often a favorite.

Wanted to also ask my daughter is currently 25” tall and 12 lbs she’s in a baby car seat but it expires this summer when she’ll be about 6 months, should I move her to convertible or keep in a baby one? She’s my first kiddo I put in a baby seat the others I went straight to convertible from the hospital lol

I like the convenience of that two in one stroller seat. I've never used one as I am a nanny so I get whatever car seat the parents give me. I just am someone who can't carry a child in a seat very well. I just leave the seat in the car and carry the baby or put them in a regular stroller. This two in one seems very convenient.

I think the biggest cons: Price (expensive) and weight are repeated about the stroller-infant car seat combo. It is also relatively new and may be good for a more narrow use case / user. The weight might be a deal breaker when you consider the parts sticking out to allow for the conversion can (and will) hit arms and legs of the parent who is hoisting the seat into and out of the car. I suspect that using a “universal stroller” with the infant car seat would be less weight / less cost / and allow for use of the stroller beyond the age / size of the infant car seat.
