I' just getting started in surface design. I had never heard of Affinity and now I think this may be the way to go.

Great recommendations. When I give a course in book and greeting card submissions, this is totally what I share with the students. 🙂 My advice to them is to "never give up".

I love all your classes and your teaching style! You are very transparency and sharing lots of info. You also give away a lot of brushes in Procreate which are usable. Please keep sharing! 💕

Thank you for making this video! I’ve been on the cusp of choosing a vector app to learn (Affinity, fresco, or Illustrator). I’m curious if you’ve tried Illustrator, & if you have, how you’d compare Affinity Design to Illustrator for making patterns. I started to learn illustrator, but my student subscription is ending this month, & I’m questioning if I want to subscribe for it on my own for double the price I had paid. Price point wise, Affinity Design is sounding better. I’ve enjoyed watching the workflow in Illustrator.

Glad you enjoyed the video! What vector app people use often comes down to the artist's personal preference. Affinity is my favorite. One tip though: find the app that works for you and dive in a learn it thoroughly. It'll make a difference in the long run!

Great tips...definitely thinking about going the affinity designer route. What are your thoughts on the affinity designer desktop version?
@teamlizkohlerbrown2 жыл бұрын
All of the classes I offer are for the iPad version of Affinity Designer, but I know many people find them to be similar. Affinity has a great set of beginner tutorials on their website as well: affinity.serif.com/en-us/tutorials/designer/desktop/

Hi Liz, can you do a video about what happens after a design is sold? What files does the client get? Are affinity designer files ok to send, or do they have to be transfered to another program like photoshop? Thank you!
@LizKohlerBrown4 ай бұрын
I love that question! I will think about a future video to explain the details. Thank you for suggesting it!

Wooow! Great video! I just signed up for the guide. Do you draw everything in this app, or do you draw on procreate, use Illustrator or something to make vector files, and then continue with this app? Thank you so much for sharing… 😄🙏🏻

When I'm looking to print my own design on fabric I will upload it to a site like Spoonflower, a fabric printing company. Hope that helps!

I love doing classes with you I got into procreate and Affinity coz of watching you I’m gutted I won’t see you on Skillshare any more as I can’t get your new classes in your studio as I don’t have a bank account or credit card wish there was a way I would gladly get them xx

Hi Liz, My question is how do you make your pattrens smaller? I have created pattrens in procreate and Affinity design and I like Affinity more. I have pattrens on Spoonflower but the design comes out large. My daughter wanted one of my designs for the keychains she makes but needed the print to be tiny. What they used to call ditsy prints. I have looked everywhere and I can’t find anyone to teach me how that’s done. Also how do I bring over my art from procreate to affinity. Do I have to start all over? This is very discouraging. Thank you for all your help! I love your Skillshare classes! 🥰
@LizKohlerBrown2 жыл бұрын
Hi Georgia-Rose! I'm so glad to hear you're enjoying the classes! In terms of making patterns smaller on Spoonflower there is a smaller button on the design page where you can set it to any size. I show the process in my Repeat Patterns for Print-on-Demand class in case you want to see it in tutorial form! In terms of making your patterns smaller, I show that process in the Design a Pattern Collection class in video 18 Quilt Square Mockups. So if you watch that lesson you should feel more confident with resizing your patterns! That process would work with patterns made in Affinity or patterns made in Procreate and inserted into an Affinity document by going to Document -> Place and selecting the pattern image you exported from Procreate. Feel free to email us at help@lizkohlerbrown.com if you have any trouble!

I tried it a few years ago, but then abandoned it. All of a sudden I am consumed by a desire to make repeat patterns, so armed with your book I will take it on holiday and have 2 weeks to properly get to grips with it.

Does Affinity allow you to export it as an Illustrator file if the client wants in an AI format? How do you do that?
@teamlizkohlerbrown2 жыл бұрын
Affinity Designer does not let you save as an AI file, but you can save it as a PDF and there's a workaround from there that you can easily google! Hope that helps!
@yoadrienne2 жыл бұрын
I believe it's possible to use the Adobe site to translate the file into an AI file. Vectornator "offers" AI format but basically they just use the site to convert it to AI file format
@BenFrankarts2 жыл бұрын
You can save the vector file in SVG format and illustrator will open those as well. It’s a generic vector format for the vast majority if not all vector programs.
