These are some of my best rhythmic exercises for developing the skill of left hand comping. If you want a strong, independent left hand to accompany your right hand while you solo and play melodies, this jazz piano tutorial is for you! We'll go through how to use these exercises to master left hand comping over a ii v I, and then you'll be able to apply them to other chord progressions.

As a musician/pianist and a piano teacher, I find your videos very useful. It is sometimes hard for my young students to understand the amount of down-to-earth basic work that has to be done to become free and playful on the instrument. You explain all this very well, and very useful to direct some of my students to your channel so they can hear someone else than me saying it 😃

I really appreciate how simply and gradually you introduce us beginners to learn how to practice at first just with our left hand, while snapping with the right. This is just what I needed! Excellent and very clear. Thanks!

What do you mean with "whole notes"?
@georgehiggins1320
@georgehiggins1320 2 жыл бұрын
A whole note is a duration lasting a bar of four/four. You would hold out the note for four beats. 1-2-3-4.

Hey Bishnu, what do you mean when the soloist is soloing? Generally speaking, the same chords as under the melody are played during the solo.

From google: "a musical figure in which, typically, two groups of three beats are replaced by three groups of two beats, giving the effect of a shift between triple and duple meter."
