Cool. Good tip. If you use light line you can use a little jig head made for crappie. Put the hook through the chin and out the top just above the horn. The gold hook blends with the shrimp and the weight ends up tight against the belly so it's not visible. The jig heads for tube jigs for crappie are my favorite. They don't straighten out with 6 lb test and there's no problem landing big fish if you fight them right.

Been a member for a year….5 Stars Highly Recommended. Their fishing school combined with the community of members to help you improve is outstanding value for money. Plus….discounts on gear are big enough to cover the cost of membership. Nope….I’m not paid to say this they don’t even know my name.

Couldn’t a jighead be used to do the same thing?

This part. That’s a Texas rigged shrimp. “Rip the tail off”? Nope.

The tail off strategy will release more scent which attracts more attention to it from a wider variety of species (both sight and smell oriented species), and it allows for a weedless rig which allows us to fish tighter to structure which is where the most feeding activity takes place.
