We walked every street in the Centro area of Isla Mujeres Mexico slurping uncounted bowls of soup and wrapping everything you can imagine in a tortilla to compile our list of favorites. This video is so helpful. I am hoping to travel to Isla right before school starts in the fall with my daughter who is celebrating heading into her senior year and 4th year learning Spanish. Food is one of my main events when traveling. Crossing our fingers the Rona doesn't ruin yet another trip for us.

@@KattieMetChris We had a FABULOUS time! The food was truly amazing!!! That rotisserie chicken place was crazy good and we ate tacos at a place you guys were at but I don't remember the name and it was fantastic! We had the best churros I've had in my life from a little cart and Pizza Mike's was surprisingly fantastic! We had Tikin Xic at Playa Lancheros and it was probably the best meal we had on the island!

I went to poc choc and had the lime soupe / sopa the lima and the lime skin (bitterness) was too much for me. Keep in mimd that its very light in salt. I would recommend it as breakfast if you can pass ove the lime skin taste.

Don't know if I asked this or not. Curious about what you both use to store your passport as you walk around? Just a passport holder that goes in your back pocket? I watch videos on bags etc for travel and it seems people will put a bit of emphasis on that there are pickpocketers all over.

I would never keep anything in my back pocket anywhere. We change how we carry our passports based on location and circumstances but they are always double secured and next to our bodies.

Hi! Any of the little seafood places along the waterfront or good and Jax (while expensive) also has some good fish tacos. The best fish tacos I've had there is down at the little stand tucked off the road near the hotel Bahia Chac Chi but not sure if that one is there now as it served the fishermans union. Are you heading down soon?

Hi, I have been to Isla several times. Our first stop is always BallyHoo for fish tacos! And a margarita. Only a few steps from the Ultramar, right on the waterfront. Best fish tacos!!

You've never gotten sick from eating the salsas or raw vegetables on the food such as lettuce or peppers?

Hi Daniel! We've never gotten sick at any of the places we recommend. We've never gotten sick off street food anywhere in the world (Yet...fingers crossed) though if a place doesn't seem likely to have washed their veggies then we usually pass on the salad. Also much more comfortable eating uncooked vegies from the locals that prepare the food at their homes than we do from some of the more "commercial' vendors, but that's just personal experience. Always better safe than sorry, if it looks dodgy, pass. Have a great night and thanks for reaching out!

Where did you convert you dollars for pesos ?

We use an ATM to get the best rates. We also have a comprehensive security strategy in place to to safely use ATM's all over the world which keeps us as safe as is possible while doing so. Our friends buy their MXN/pesos at their bank in the states before leaving on their trip and works well for them. Hope this helps! Always here for any experience we can offer. Have an awesome day!

If you eat on Hidalgo or at a hotel it's expensive...that's why we usually stay away from those places. Spent a solid year on Isla and still loved it so totally disagree on the "day trip is enough" but whatever works for you. All the best! 🤙

For us? We'd probably splurge and go to Jax, or more likely grab a Pollo Asada and take it to the beach for sunset....but we are budget travelers so unless your date is a budget traveler you might want to go higher end than us 🤣🤣🙏 Good luck!! Please let us know what you choose and how you like it.

We tried to stick to places in Centro for this list to make sure they were all easy walking distance places (though we did add in Oscars because, PIZZA!...though to be fair we did walk to Oscars to get the pizza so it still counts).
