No disrespect to the big homie at the beginning of the video cause that's how Chicano Park was built (by the commuity members), but he left out all of the important history that led to Chicano Park being built. The city of San Diego was gentrifying Barrio Logan bigtime with the community being destoryed by the construction of Interstate 5 passing right through Barrio Logan in the late 1960's and tearing down thousands of homes in the surrounding area where Chicano Park is now built. The city council lied to the community by approving a park to be built but no action was ever taken. On April 22,1970 bulldozers showed up to begin work and residents quickly found out the city was going to build a California Highway Patrol station. Residents of Barrio Logan showed up at the site and prevented any of those plans by by standing of front of the bulldozers for 12 days straight until the city finally agreed to build a park for the community. This is just an abrreviated version of the history of how the park was founded but i hope it sheds some more light to everyone watching this video. I'm a very proud lifelong San Diego resident so anytime i see anyone talking about the history of Chicano Park i wish they would do it justice by being as accurate and detailed as possible. I was at Chicano Park Day this year and have been going for years and to me it is the most important day of the year for the Mexican community in San Diego. Chicano Park Day is held every year in April to celebrate the history of the Barrio Logan community members who defended the land and organized themselves to prevent more community destruction and finally forced city approval for a Park to be built.

Good knowledge and history I didn't kno dat I'm from l.a. been to Sea World but it seems it's far away. Being black it's like our culture is so similar Zuzu/Panthers Riots it's good to hear a Chicano perspective. But I wish Los Clippers & Chargers stayed en DAYGO LOL

HistoryEdit Early historyEdit Peru and China celebrate 160th anniversary of diplomatic ties Chinese laborers in Peru - 1890 Asian coolies who were shipped from the Spanish Philippines to Acapulco via the Manila-Acapulco galleons were all called Chino ("Chinese"), although in reality they were not only from China but also other places, including what are today the Philippines itself, Japan, Malaysia, Indonesia, East Timor, and further afield such as India and Sri Lanka.[3]:12[4][5][6] Filipinos made up most of their population.[7] The people in this community of diverse Asians in Mexico were called "los indios chinos" by the Spanish.[8]Most of these workers were male and were obtained from Portuguese traders, who obtained them from Portuguese colonial possessions and outposts of the Estado da India, which included parts of India, Bengal, Malacca, Indonesia, Nagasaki in Japan, and Macau.[9][10] Spain received some of these coolies from Mexico, where owning a Chinocoolie showed high status.[3]:13 Records of three Japanese coolies dating from the 16th century, named Gaspar Fernandes, Miguel and Ventura who ended up in Mexico showed that they were purchased by Portuguese slave traders in Japan, brought to Manila from where they were shipped to Mexico by their owner Perez.[11][12][13] Some of these Asian slaves were also brought to Lima in Peru, where it was recorded that in 1613 there was a small community of Asians, consisting of Chinese, Japanese, Filipinos, Malays, Cambodians and others.[14][15][16][17] Chinese immigrants, who in the 19th century took a four-month trip from Macau (then a Portuguese territory), settled as contract laborers or coolies. Other Chinese coolies from Guangdong followed. One hundred thousand Chinese contract laborers, 95% of which were Cantonese and almost all of which were male, were sent mostly to the sugar plantations from 1849 to 1874, during the termination of slavery. They were to provide continuous labor

I've read that it was always was a Mexican community ..In 1871, Congressman John A. Logan wrote legislation to provide federal land grants and subsidies for a transcontinental railroad ending in San Diego. A street laid in 1881 was named Logan Heights after him, and the name came to be applied to the general area. Plans for a railroad never successfully materialized, and the area was predominantly residential by the start of the 20th century, becoming one of San Diego's oldest communities. Its transformation began in 1910 with the influx of refugees of the Mexican Revolution, who soon became the majority ethnic group. For this reason, the southern part of the original Logan Heights neighborhood came to be called Barrio Logan.

@@west2134 Logan Heights used to be always black, fully equipped with black hotels, black restaraunts and black schools, all up and down Imperial. In 1292 Kublai Khan sent out his minister Meng-qi to Java. Kublai's envoy wasn't well recieved there and the king viewing him more as an extortionist for demanding tribute branded his face with a hot iron. An outraged Kublai Khan invaded Java in retaliation. The Mongol invasion force totalled somewhere around 30,000 soldiers and a fleet of 1000 ships. The Mongols made some initial progress but were eventually forced back to their ships. By May of the following year the Mongol invasion of Java had failed. Point of Departure: 1293 was an Nino year (Needed to increase the strength of the Equatorial Counter Current and change the wind direction in the West Equatorial Pacific). This prevents the Mongol fleet from sailing back to China as they are at the mercy of the drastic wind changes that influences the flow of the currents. After six months of sailing the Mongol fleet arrive at the coast of modern-day Panama. A Six month voyage at the speed of 6 knots or above aided by the current. The Mongols arrived exhausted but relatively healthy, though the voyage had taken a heavy toll; of the 30,000 or so, only 7,000 survived the voyage as many ships were lost at sea. By Late October 1293 a few hundred Mongol ships dropped anchor somewhere between Isla Leones and Isla Cebaco. Out of the three Generals of the ill fated Javan invasion, the Chinese commander Gaoxing went down with ship at sea during the voyage. This left only the Mongol commander Shi-Bi, along with his second in command Ike Mese, as the surviving leaders of the fleet. The Mongols make first contact with the Chiriqui Indians. The Chiriqui do a great deal of trading with the Maya to the north and the Incas to the South. Several hundred Mongol horses survived the journey along with hogs, cattle and chickens.
