I believe that the navy blazer is one of the most versatile garments every gentleman must own. It could be dressed up or down and could be paired with almost anything and was even the signature of stylish men like the late Sir Roger Moore. Thanks for making this helpful video for a very useful garment for a reasonable price

My navy blazers have traditionally been the Ralph Lauren navy blazer but, about 14 years ago I was infatuated with the Hickey Freeman navy blazer and I have not looked back. I rock my blazer with a variety of styles.... from my chinos to my denim but certainly more traditional my dress trousers such as my gabardine to worsted wool.

I almost paid near to $1000 for a killer navy double-breasted from a noted outlet but held off because of the cost. Luckily I did because, at the end of the year, that outlet had a sale and got one of the last two remaining for a fraction of the price. When I asked why so cheap? He told me they sold out that line and wanted the last two gone. My tailor corrected a few things, and now it's one of my most favourite garments.

Hi Preston and Sven, I've been watching your KZbin videos for many months now and I have to say I really like this new, experimental format - i.e. you two trying on and discussing pairs of shoes (as in the first video in this format) or blazers, as in this example, from a range of different suppliers; I'm sure I'm not the only one of your subscribers who enjoys this style and would like to see more in this vein. Yikes! Buying a new blazer for less than $500 nearly condemns you to poor quality fast-fashion brands! You make a great case for thrift shopping and vintage menswear if you seek enduring quality. Buy high-end second-hand clothing, find a reliable tailor, and take care of your clothes so they can last you a lifetime. The best clothing that will ever be made has already been made! This was another insightful video. It really helps us to avoid costly mistakes. Thanks!

Would love to see these brands as well; -Cavour -Spier & Mackay -Boggi -Pini Parma -J. Crew -Club Monaco -Good Man Brand I think the types of alterations should be factored into cost as well. For example, Suitsupply’s functioning buttons would cost more to alter than say a jacket from H&M. Thanks for the review and hope to see more.

Great to see that you are prepared to put your money where your mouth is. I found that it was particularly interesting and most importantly useful, because most of the brand's covered are available in Melbourne and Sydney Australia. But what was really useful, because I am evaluating Offshore, Online, purchase was the time you both spent explaining in great detail how the rated size varied between brands. It lifted the quality of presentation for Men's Fashion channels on KZbin. Thank you, Phil.

I finally bit the bullet and bought a Calvin Klein suit jacket. For my build, it fits very well off the rack. I’m an athletic guy, 42” chest, 32” waist so off the rack rarely worked for me. You have to try on a bunch of brands and see what fits your build, and spend a little more to get 100% wool. Thanks gents.

I'm curious to hear their thoughts on Spier & MacKay's sports coats & blazers. I have one & I absolutely adore it. The one thing I must mention is that it is best to buy their 'contemporary fit' rather than their slim fit if you were even considering it. I find the build quality to be nice: the stitch density is high, the button-holes are cut then stitched, the lapel roll is good, and the fabrics are durable and interesting. Personally, I rather enjoy Spier & MacKay because of their wide range of fabrics, patterns, 3-roll-3 lapels, and the fact they have 3.5" all the way to ~4" lapels!

An extremely interesting and useful evaluation, as always...As a fellow 44R, if you're willing to look at the vintage/gently used market, there's an affordable, well fitting US-made blazer made under the Cross and Winsor brand (Winsor, not Windsor). They were pretty widely available through about 2001, and made a pretty high quality and nice fitting navy blue brass button blazer that can be found on the secondary market pretty readily. Avoid the foreign-made lines as they don't hang correctly for regularly-sized suits.

I have a Stafford (owned by JC Penney) blazer and I believe it’s a wool-poly mix if not it is likely full wool. For me it is a perfect blazer as the color is great and the styling is great, and the buttons are shank buttons in gold tone with a crest that has S for stafford which also works for my last name Saavedra. though I do need to get it tailored, it fits fairly well for a thrifted jacket

@@noiamgoodlol8547 This video is a bit old but I appreciate your response nonetheless thank you. I don't see any Brooks Brothers out here unfortunately but I managed to get a few casual Blazers with patch pockets that I can definitely wear for informal situations. One is a Merino Wool/Linen Blend and the other 3 are unlined Cotton. I do shop at the thrift store once in awhile so I completely agree with your statement. I actually prefer Cobalt or Royal Blue for Jackets though rather than the traditional Navy so it's a little more exciting and laid back. I'm still debating on purchasing a couple Tweed sport coats though as most of the time it is pretty hot out here. 2 wouldn't hurt though for whenever it's chilly out. Thanks for your response.

It's 80% Wool 20% Linen so I assume I could also wear it in hot weather. Not sure if it's unlined like my Cotton ones but I'll double check. By the way if you wear a sweater over a Collared shirt is it fine to wear the same size? I've always worn crew necks or Hoodies so I'm actually new to having Cardigans and V Necks in my wardrobe. I look forward to testing different outfits with them.

I found a single breasted, wool-cashmere navy blazer with pewter buttons, flap pockets (with a coin pocket inside), with nicely wide notched lapels with pick stitching, small armhole and with a bit of padding in the shoulder, for the measly price of £4 in a charity shop. It had no vents, which I found a bit different, but it was nice.

What I want to see is a video on how to pick a tailor or seamstress. I keep watching their videos and like them a lot but a good tailor or seamstress is important as your pastor or priest. He or she is the one you want in your corner. To go buy a coat or suit off the rack even if they do tailor it for you will need to be brought to them for additional tailoring or adjustments. And a good personal relationship with them is a huge asset.

I think that putting so much emphasis on the fit is a bit unfair because that’s gonna vary for every person. I think the scores should have been based almost entirely on the quality and styling of the garment. For me if its just a blazer and not a full suit, second hand is the way to go. You can find higher end brands for less than 50$ and if the shoulders fit you can alter the rest ending up with a lot less than retail price, and usually for a higher quality product. In the end even the most expensive OTR blazers aren't handmade so it's not a huge loss. Depending on where you live you can even make a custom made blazer for 500$ or less.

I wanted to request an idea for a video similar to that really useful one you did on measuring the formality of suit styles, except as opposed to fabrics and colours you did a scale of the actual type of suit, so a lounge suit compared to black tie, white tie vs morning suit etc. . Greetings, Raphael. I looked into the Uniqlo blazers after seeing this video and giving proper regard to your 3.5-star rating with decent value at $150. I wound up ordering the Custom Slim-Fit Stretch Wool Blazer (same price as the S/M/L/XL blazer you reviewed) and was very pleasantly surprised. I’m usually a 42L in a classic OTR jacket, which tends to fit in the shoulders and chest with appropriate length in the body while being otherwise too generous. The custom slim-fit Uniqlo blazer let me choose size 42 with 26” sleeves and the maximum 31” length, and when it arrived the fit was nearly as flattering as one of my MTM suit jackets. I found the fabric quite presentable and comfortable, especially at such an affordable price point for a 98% wool/2% Spandex blazer. I would urge anyone interested in the Uniqlo blazer to check out the custom version if they can wait two extra weeks to receive it. Keep up the fine work, and thanks for this video offering.

I had a lovely Ralph Lauren navy blazer but it got too tight for me. I miss it so much. With wide legged light tan trousers, it looked amazing and felt just as good wearing it. If I had the money, I wouldn’t hesitate to pay well over £500 for a good quality blazer. If I get one, this time it’ll be double breasted.

You should consider the Hart Schaffner Marx Navy Blazers available at Dillard's and Nordstrom, specifically the $395 97% Wool 3% Spandex Chicago Fit Navy Sportcoat.

On sale, Gold Trumpeter /a half canvassed Hart Schaffner Marx is a great value. Of course, if one doesn't mind a used blazer, with luck and patience....can find them under $50 on eBay in mint condition. No, it's not Zegna level fabric, but high quality, look, and feel.

Surprised at some of the brands you went to and where were the gold colour buttons? Good video though.

Sven Raphael, please put that opened bottle of vermouth in the fridge! As a fortified wine, it won’t last long at room temp. Even better, spray some inert food-safe argon gas in there before doing so. Will last for months without altering the taste via oxidation.

So, if the blazer has brass buttons, do you have to 'match metals' to the buttons? In other words, does your belt buckle (and buckle(s) on monk strap shoes) have to be yellow too?
