My navy blazers have traditionally been the Ralph Lauren navy blazer but, about 14 years ago I was infatuated with the Hickey Freeman navy blazer and I have not looked back. I rock my blazer with a variety of styles.... from my chinos to my denim but certainly more traditional my dress trousers such as my gabardine to worsted wool.

I almost paid near to $1000 for a killer navy double-breasted from a noted outlet but held off because of the cost. Luckily I did because, at the end of the year, that outlet had a sale and got one of the last two remaining for a fraction of the price. When I asked why so cheap? He told me they sold out that line and wanted the last two gone. My tailor corrected a few things, and now it's one of my most favourite garments.

Yikes! Buying a new blazer for less than $500 nearly condemns you to poor quality fast-fashion brands! You make a great case for thrift shopping and vintage menswear if you seek enduring quality. Buy high-end second-hand clothing, find a reliable tailor, and take care of your clothes so they can last you a lifetime. The best clothing that will ever be made has already been made! This was another insightful video. It really helps us to avoid costly mistakes. Thanks!

I'm curious to hear their thoughts on Spier & MacKay's sports coats & blazers. I have one & I absolutely adore it. The one thing I must mention is that it is best to buy their 'contemporary fit' rather than their slim fit if you were even considering it. I find the build quality to be nice: the stitch density is high, the button-holes are cut then stitched, the lapel roll is good, and the fabrics are durable and interesting. Personally, I rather enjoy Spier & MacKay because of their wide range of fabrics, patterns, 3-roll-3 lapels, and the fact they have 3.5" all the way to ~4" lapels!

An extremely interesting and useful evaluation, as always...As a fellow 44R, if you're willing to look at the vintage/gently used market, there's an affordable, well fitting US-made blazer made under the Cross and Winsor brand (Winsor, not Windsor). They were pretty widely available through about 2001, and made a pretty high quality and nice fitting navy blue brass button blazer that can be found on the secondary market pretty readily. Avoid the foreign-made lines as they don't hang correctly for regularly-sized suits.

I have a Stafford (owned by JC Penney) blazer and I believe it’s a wool-poly mix if not it is likely full wool. For me it is a perfect blazer as the color is great and the styling is great, and the buttons are shank buttons in gold tone with a crest that has S for stafford which also works for my last name Saavedra. though I do need to get it tailored, it fits fairly well for a thrifted jacket

What I want to see is a video on how to pick a tailor or seamstress. I keep watching their videos and like them a lot but a good tailor or seamstress is important as your pastor or priest. He or she is the one you want in your corner. To go buy a coat or suit off the rack even if they do tailor it for you will need to be brought to them for additional tailoring or adjustments. For me if its just a blazer and not a full suit, second hand is the way to go. You can find higher end brands for less than 50$ and if the shoulders fit you can alter the rest ending up with a lot less than retail price, and usually for a higher quality product. In the end even the most expensive OTR blazers aren't handmade so it's not a huge loss. Depending on where you live you can even make a custom made blazer for 500$ or less.

Greetings, Raphael. I looked into the Uniqlo blazers after seeing this video and giving proper regard to your 3.5-star rating with decent value at $150. I wound up ordering the Custom Slim-Fit Stretch Wool Blazer (same price as the S/M/L/XL blazer you reviewed) and was very pleasantly surprised. I’m usually a 42L in a classic OTR jacket, which tends to fit in the shoulders and chest with appropriate length in the body while being otherwise too generous. The custom slim-fit Uniqlo blazer let me choose size 42 with 26” sleeves and the maximum 31” length, and when it arrived the fit was nearly as flattering as one of my MTM suit jackets. I found the fabric quite presentable and comfortable, especially at such an affordable price point for a 98% wool/2% Spandex blazer. I would urge anyone interested in the Uniqlo blazer to check out the custom version if they can wait two extra weeks to receive it. Keep up the fine work, and thanks for this video offering.
