Today, we are testing out the Lewitt LCT 440 Pure microphone! We have quite a few Lewitt microphones, so we are excited to get to try this one out and see how it sounds!
To test this mic, we recorded a cover of Valerie by The Vutons. Everything on this song was recorded with the LCT 440 Pure, and the multitracks are available for you to download so you can hear exactly how this mic sounds!
The Lewitt LCT 440 Pure is a 1 inch true condenser studio microphone, with a cardioid polar pattern. One thing that a lot of people talk about with Lewitt microphones is how accurate the sound is. Lewitt does not bring a lot of color to their microphones, and instead they allow you to do that yourself in the box with plugins or mic pres or however else you want to color the sound. This mic is no different!
This mic is a very affordable mic at $269, but it still feels very substantial, and it is one of the least brittle sounding mics in this price range. We were impressed with the way this mic sounded on our cover!

I just want to say thank you. I'm a chilean musician that came from the "classical music" world, king of an "ugly duckling" guy who never found his place and one that currently is self producing his own music as a multitask one-man army. This KZbin channel has been, at least, three quarters of my school. So thank you. Really. I've listened, tried, failed, learned, tried some more, failed again, learned a little bit more, and just kept on trying. Still doing that. Will be doing that for a long time, so thank you for making my "stumbling in the dark" path a much bright and easy one. A big hug from the bottom of the world!!!!!

This was EPIC!!!! Absolutely EPIC!!!! I fell in love with Lewitt mics because of you, Warren. This is wickedness. I know I will have to have this mic at some point. Just need to be able to devote the money to it. Let's face it. None of us really wanted these adult priorities getting in the way. But... we need to take care of them first. I'm sure you know how it is. I'm currently doing some vocal work for a charity project. Kinda wouldn't have minded having this mic for that. But my LCT 240 PRO is doing the job nicely at the moment. Once I'm done with this project, I want to have some fun with these multitracks. I absolutely LOVE this version. The groove just feels so right. Thank you for everything you do, Warren.

Hmmm " Everything Mic" ? Not IMO. Great on acoustic guitar and " Chimey Limey ' Brit Invasion / 12 String Ric & Vox sounds think Ticket to Ride or anything Brian May. Build quality is exceptional but like all Lewitt mics its BRIGHT !! Like VERY BRIGHT however who says Bright = Bad ? Sometimes Bright is perfect. On Bass & Kick it sucks , wrong mic Sen E 602 or EV ND68 are far superior and cheaper! Voice ? Meh ...its ok but if budget is a concern the Rode NT1 reigns supreme and for all voices, Ive never heard a bad recording with that mic. Piano ? Very good , very detailed. Overheads ? I prefer the SDC matched Lewitt 040 but the Pure is damn good. Well there you have it & yes I own this mic

I bought one of these for vocals after much deliberation. I bought an NT1 not long ago and while it's really great - far better than the mics I'd used previously (AKG D5, AT2020, and some really budget condensers) - I felt like it was too mid forward and overly dark sounding with proximity effect, which didn't help my already dark voice (when singing in chest at least, as I'm a low baritone). It made my higher singing sound thin and tame. Listening to countless videos, the sound really seems like it'll do well to round out my vocal a bit more, and connect my smoother tenor sounding highs with my grittier, darker chest voice. I almost feel like the representation (based on listening to the tracks you guys recorded as well as probably 30+ other sources) feels more even, even if it is emphasising the highs a bit. The texture it has would help with overly smooth higher vocals too. But I might update after a few weeks of recording covers when I've figured things out more.

Great Full Sound! The 440 Pure was recently reviewed and someone said it was better at rejecting background noise than a SM7B! Did you experience this? Asking because I don’t have the best treated room for recording and I live in the middle of the city. I’ve checked out the SMB7 and I’ve got to say, it really rejects outside noise, but sometimes I crave the clarity of a good condenser. Love their videos!

Great performance Warren👏🏻 For female, dynamic voc (mine 😇) would you recommend this Lewitt over Rode NT1? Or maybe you would rather increase a budget a bit and choose different mic? Does this make sens? :) NT1 in untreated room picks up room ambience like crazy. I just make a comparison between NT1 and AKG414 and this is night and day. I know AKG is over 3 times more expensive but is there a chance to get better mic then NT1 up to $300 or $400? I think my voice deserves a better mic hahaha! Hope you are doing marvelously well!

For a metal vocalist, would you rather take this one, the Sontronics STC-2 or the Rode NT-1A?

I believe everything was great but the vocals. The balance between the lead and the backing vocals was perfect it's just the overall vocals need to be present more. It was like someone was trying hard to make all the parts have equal real-estate and I think the backing and lead vocals need to be pulled out in front just a little more.

Idk if you have ever tried one or even heard of the Sterling Audio ST-159. I just bought one recently and used it on vocals, acoustic guitar, and a very different approach to adding ambiance to a snare drum which was recording a hit on the top of a half eaten pringles can and it worked out amazingly lol. It is a gorgeous mic and i think you would love it warren. It looks amazing, sounds amazing, is built amazing, and is made for just about any instance of recording ever. It has three polar patterns, a low cut at 75Hz and a -10db pad.

Just bought one and it’s amazing. Really pleased and a huge step up from what I was using. Silly question but what is the next level up that’s worth getting. I mean if I spent twice as much on a mic is it worth it or should aim higher to see a difference in quality ?

Used the multitracks to learn a new daw and to do my first mix with more than 8 tracks(my personal music). Your playing was a pleasure to work with. I enjoyed his Rod Stewart like voice and the brass as well. Thank you very much for the generosity with providing the quality tracks for me to get some experience with.

I really like that. I just got the 441 Flex when it was recommended in the academy. It made such a difference to our vocals. Haven't used it on much else yet. Having this mic would give me a bit more flexibility when micing up multiple instruments.

Great recording of a great song! I have two 440 pure and I love them. They are fantastic and I use them for Vocals, Accustic guitar, Piano, Kick out, and Drum overheads. This video shows that they are fantastic also for almost any instrument. To me, the biggest surprise was how well the 440pure did on Sax and Trumpet. Amazing!
