Hello Liah, I was wondering your opinion on the ingredient cyclomethicone or cyclopentasiloxane since it's a sort of controversial in terms of being detrimental to marine life [but for the life of me I can't find the actual studies that were conducted that indicated that]
@CoushattaL4 жыл бұрын
honestly I think that sunscreen prices are getting out of control. 30 something dollars for a 1 oz? The fact that you have to reapply sunscreen every 2 hours you'll be done with that bottle in about 2 weeks or less. I work in healthcare and right now I'm outside for 12 hours straight swapping people for Corona and I'm having to reapply my sunscreen every 2 hours or more depending on how much I sweat. That's a lot of money on sunscreen. I think that these companies need to be ashamed for how expensive some of these things are.... Just my opinion though...

One good sunscreen that averages for 16.99 but you can get cheaper depending where you live is the Bare Republic Mineral body Sunscreen. It’s a good sunscreen from target they have the same formula for the same price just in a smaller bottle for the face but I recommend getting the body one cause it’s the same formula and same price.

Just FYI... Australian Gold’d regular and tinted SPF 50 got a failing score in Consumer Report. They rate these sunscreens, and this one tanked in a few areas, but the lowest score (and most alarming) was in the category, “SPF varies what is stated on the bottle. The fact they got the lowest score possible in this category means even with proper application, it’s SPF 50 is more like a 20. Some of these others didn’t come out too well either.
@malcolm44444 жыл бұрын
yeah, i got the dark tint and it’s very ashy, but it only contains 4% zinc and 4% titanium, and zinc normally needs to be more than 15% for proper protection
@vanessamumu19684 жыл бұрын
Would u mind recommend me an affordable mineral sunscreen for combination-oily skin living in a humid country? And how can i get the info of the consumer report like u got above? Thank you in advance.
@eobrien14 жыл бұрын
Malcolm Wallace I used to think this too, but I learned recently that, according to dermatologists, the higher zinc percentage thing is actually a myth. Formulations will vary in their percentage on any given sunscreen and you have to consider the product as a whole, since all are FDA spf-tested the same way, with the product formula being applied, and not just, for example, the zinc in that sunscreen going on your skin. I guess they’re saying it’s a “whole is greater than the sum of its parts” thing. Kinda blew my mind, but it makes sense.
@TheOneOfEarth4 жыл бұрын
Malcolm Wallace Actually when they test sunscreens they do it in increments to see the efficacy of the formula. So even if it’s 4-5% or higher it depends on the vehicles which they’re formulated with to determine its overall SPF. Many people burn from improper application of sunscreen. You have to take time to apply and wait for it to set otherwise it defeats the purpose.
@MSUSPARTANS19734 жыл бұрын
Vanessa Mumu I have no clue why I’m just seeing this. I’m subscribed to Consumer’s Report. That’s how I get the information. Gothamista, here in KZbin, just did her favorite mineral sunscreens for 2020. Check it out! Check out her past videos on sunscreens too!

This is so important because it looks so different on dark skin. I live in Korea and often times the store clerk will swatch items on her own hand to show me and I wonder if it's because she knows it'll look different on me and wants to make a sale (these arent even tourist areas cause I'm not a tourist). Not just sunscreen but other products like eyeshadow, lip products, etc. I made this mistake once and bought a sunscreen after the clerk convinced me it has no white cast. I wore it the next day and literally looked like a clown lol.
@stepahead59444 жыл бұрын
Finally!!! The whitecast question is the hardest to answer. Even more so when you want to dip into the Korean and Japanese formulations. Even in the US truly shere products are quite difficult to find. I'm sure many melanated individuals can agree that quite a bit of money can be wasted just trying to find something that works.

Thank you for doing the dark skin test! That's one of the hardest thing about shopping for sunscreen, which is why I live for sun milks and gels. I wonder if Korean mineral sunscreens are formulated to be more drying on purpose to combat the high humidity in Korea?

I recently tried the Purito Comfy Water Sun Block, and looks wise it was pretty fantastic. The slightest, SLIGHTEST, white cast if not rubbed in properly.. Sadly though my face did not enjoy the feel of it at all. The entire day I was fully aware of something on my face, I didn't enjoy reapplying it, and I was just counting down the hours until the sun went away enough for me to get it off my face. Certainly not a bad sunscreen at all! Just definitely not for me. I absolutely prefer the feel of chemical sunscreens on my face. If you look at the active ingredients in the Australian Gold sunscreen, it can't possibly be SPF 50. 4% is very low protection for zinc & titanium dioxide. EWG says the same thing..."Based on EWG's modeling, the UV protection is significantly lower than the SPF value would indicate." I used to love this product, but kept noticing that my nose would get red (aka burned).

When will The Beet Shield be back in stock? That’s my ride or die. SuperGoop is next and last Black Girl Sunscreen. It dries me out over time but i love the way it blends.

Wow, this is such an extensive video that I know took a lot of work! It is also such a lovely video with an amazing concept. Thank you for making it! (Just wanted to mention that the Dr. G sunscreen has bergamot oil, which I’m pretty sure can cause photosensitivity in the sun. Might be worth giving a heads up for.)

I use a sensitive skin sunscreen from the Walgreens brand. It’s in a purple and white bottle. It’s has octocrylene and zinc dioxide at both 5%. Its 2.99 a bottle for 8oz, It’s a good face sunscreen and it sets pretty clear. I am between a Fitzpatrick type 3-4 skin tone, and as much as I would want to spend 20+ on a tinted or sunscreen formula that dries completely clear with no cast what so ever. At the end of the day it is just not frugal or convenient for the pocket book and your skin is more important to protect than wanting to look good with no cast. I can live with the current sunscreen from Walgreens I’ve been using for months. I do prefer all mineral, one day I’ll try to splurge or wait until a company that isn’t just all for profit actually makes a sunscreen within a reasonable price range for the sake of skincare and not their bank as a whole. I get that testing and what not marks the price. But on top of that they mark it even higher.

Other good options are MyChelle Sun Shield Liquid and Colorscience Sunforgettable Face Shield! Both have tinted versions to lessen the white cast.

I’m a 3 on the FitzPatrick scale and the Paula’s Choice wrinkle defence sunscreen made me look so grey and ashen. Dried out my skin too.

I would like to suggest a sunscreen that I’ve used on my face. It’s Alba Botanica Hawaiian Sunscreen. It’s reef friendly, recommended by the Skin Cancer Foundation, doesn’t make me break out, NO animal testing, no gluten, no artificial colors, no synthetic fragrances, no parabens, no pthalates, no sulfates, and doesn’t leave a white cast on my skin (I’m naturally a medium tan ~ American Indian). I hope this helps.

Thank you for this video. Very informative and complete. I just want to mentio that you need to wait at least 2 minutes for the sunscreen to setttle before making a judgement, otherwise you won't know how the sunscreen truly performs. Sometimes the white cast goes away as the formula does its thing and absorbs and forms the sun-protective layer :)

that supergoop sunscreen sounds amazing! thanks for the awesome video and I can't wait for Krave's mineral sunscreen ! ;)

Super late so you probably won't see this, but I was under the impression that Australian Gold Botanical Tinted Face Sunscreen SPF 50 is not broad spectrum. Check out the percentages of active ingredients. I could be wrong, but I recall another skintuber saying you should use another sunscreen as well to get proper spf protection

For anyone who is a Fitzpatrick 4 skin tone like myself, the Australian Gold tinted sunscreen mentioned in this video blends in perfectly to my skin tone. There is the slightest bit of white cast when I first put it on, but it goes away after sinking in my skin for 5 minutes. The only reason I don’t like it is because it is so mattifying my already dry skin gets drier.

The Innisfree Ato Soothing Sun Stick is a great sunscreen stick for people with normal to dry skin like me! It does not leave any white cast and it is so moisturizing. My skin feels so soft after applying. You can get it on Yesstyle for a very affordable price.

I have some recommendations for those who need a no white-cast sunscreen. I have used the Australian Gold Sunscreen Lotion SPF 50, 8 Ounce | Moisture Max on my skin for ages. No cast. It DOES look shiny. But that isn't a bad thing. After a bad flare of eczema on my face, l used it on my face as well. No white cast ( but...shiny). Another one l use is the 4.4 out of 5 stars 3,414Reviews Cetaphil Cetaphil PRO Oil Absorbing Moisturizer With Spf 30 Broad Spectrum Sunscreen, 4 Ounce. No white cast!!! Alas ..l cannot find ANY ...pure zinc ones that can be applied without a white cast. So when my skin gets sensitive...am outta luck.

I might definitely try out the matte screen now. I was hesitant because I'm dry already but need mineral SPF due to sensitivities.

Thank you so much for this video! Perfect timing 😁 I do have a question though, what mineral sunscreens would you recommend to use for the body? I feel that face sunscreens come in such small packages that it will become really pricey if I were to use those for the body 😅

my holy grail sunscreen is etude house sunprise airy finish spf50+++ on yesstyle its like less than $12 bucks and if you layer it up it leaves zero white cast! it does have some essential oil in it i believe

Great recommendations Liah!! I would suggest for the EU subscribers the tinted Ultrasun SPF 30 and SPF 50 for the face. Love the colour as I come originally from Mauritius but living in UK since 1982. Ultrasun is great to apply and produces a lovely olive tint. Slight drawback is that it’s not always perfect when reapplying on the face but in my opinion all facial sunscreens share this same weakness for those with melanin colour 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
