Nice video. I can confirm the stock air box is far better engineered than just about any other aftermarket ones. The best thing you can do is the mods that john at lht discovered, as well as feed a spoon or js racing attachment into it unless you spend 2k on the entire js racing intake which also requires a new hood for clearance. The stock airbox is amazing

Everybody compares the S2K to the Miata; but the car that it is most like is the Porsche 968 Cabriolet. Both have variable valve timing, both are normally aspirated and both have 50-50 weight distribution. The Porsche does not rev as high and is not as reliable as the S2K.
@RaitisRides6 жыл бұрын
You brig up some very good points! I would lie to see a track review between the two. I think the over all chassis setup is superior to the 968. I would love to know the weight of the 968.

Uhhh, I think a high flow cat and Flashpro would be enough, you can skip the airbox mod except for the K&N filter. Best mod for the S2000, AP1 or AP2, is driver mod.

I like that mod to the stock air box as much as I do like cold air intakes the biggest issue with those is driving in the rain and hitting a deep mud puddle and getting hydrolock but keeping the airbox like it is with a few modifications allows you to drive that car in just about any kind of weather

Yeah, I would disagree. At least update the coil overs stock ap1 was over dampened and the A2’s were too soft other than that leaving the rest stock ain’t about choice. Though I would recommend a Hondata and custom tune. It really wakes the car up.

Wade 1 There is a saying in the S2K community - "AP2 is the better car, AP1 is the better S2000." AP2s are certainly "better cars", and if you want easy power, you'll need the AP2s computer and drive-by-wire to tune it. The AP1 is more "raw" and twitchy. And even though its only a few hundred RPM...that 9K on the AP1 is something else, man. I also like how the tach goes all the way across as opposed to the AP2's half arch. The gearing is also different between the two. I've owned both, and I prefer the AP1.

Actually there is a rumor for the S2000 coming back in 2019. The power train will be similar to what the current Civic Type R is running so you will have a 2L Turbo engine producing 320bhp stock at crank and sending all the power to the rear wheels via the 6 speed manual transmission. The design cue based on the renderings are taken from the NSX but i will be holding my breath for the final design of the S2000. The S2000 been always been a stigma of memes like VTEC kick in yo and Too Soon Junior because of the Fast and Furious driven by Johnny Tran. And typical Honda haters. The AP2 is more of a refresh of the AP1 with many under the hood changes other than exterior mods. The F20C has been stroked to 2.2L to become the F22C. But the max rpm is reduced from the 9000rpm red line to 8200rpm red line. The suspension and chassis has been tweaked to reduce the over steering issues found in the AP1 S2000. But its common for AP1 owners to do mods to their cars to improve handling with tower struts and under carriage braces to further strengthen the X-bone chassis and to convert the headlights and tail lights of the AP1 to the AP2 lights. 2009 was the last year we saw the S2000 but at least it had a few variants for us to pick. The US market got the Club Racing edition which is a stripped down version of the normal S2000. It was planned to have 2000 units made but only 699 units were made and sold. Making the S2000 CR edition a rare car to find. The Type S is like the CR but only sold for the JDM market and 1,755 were made from 2007 to 2010 production years The GT was a UK only model and featured a removable hard top like the early NA and NB MX-5 to reduce weight The Ultimate version was the Ultimate Edition and GT Edition 100 and only 100 units were made to commemorate the end of production.Both included Grand Prix White body color, removable hard top, graphite-colored alloy wheels, and red leather interior with red coloring for stitching on the gear lever gaiter. The GT Edition 100 was a limited run of 100 units released for the UK market. In addition to the Ultimate Edition's specification, it features a black S2000 badge and a numbered plaque on the kick-plate indicating which vehicle in the series it is. The airbox mods is the cheapest mod you could do to the S2000 and it can be done in your own garage with a dremel and sanding the edges. Interesting finding of the metal vs plastic intake pipe. because usually going metal pipe means the air is able to pass easily and allows smoother flow to the throttle body. The biggest mistake ppl do to the cold air intake mod is exposing the air filter to the insides of the hot engine bay. The air the air filter will be sucking in is hot air heated up by the engine and that robs power rather than add power. As proven by Mighty Car Mods and Engineering Explained who both have S2000s. The other myth that ppl still love to believe is ebay chip tuning which in fact does nothing to the car but increase fuel consumption because it messes with the ECU readings. Nothing beats the actual ECU Reflashing or real tuning with ECU programing tools not piggy backs or cheap ebay junk. The stock exhaust tail pipe while still loud is slightly on the restrictive side and upgrading to the aftermarket cat back free flowing one even if it just a single pipe free up a few more horsepower and will work best with that header upgrade. Maybe the owner could consider Spoon Sports or the Mugen dual titanium mufflers. Not only you get more horsepower and he could save a few pounds in weight from the factory exhaust. Tires goes a long way to improving the handling of the car. It makes me wonder why companies like Toyota put Prius tires onto the Toyota 86. Swapping the tires to something sticky like the Pilot Sport 4 will do wonders. brakes on the S2000 are good but the brake pads, rotors and brake hose upgrade will improve the braking and allows better track times along with the better tires. Coilovers will be the best handling mod for the car and it goes a long way if he is tracking the car frequently. I knew i heard that quote some where at 10:43. David from the ThatDudeinBlue. His motto is Smiles per Gallon I agree that Clean S2000s like his is getter rarer as i seen some S2000 that has a LS swap which is a huge turnoff to me IMO if you put a LS into a car, you prob be better off with a used Corvette that already has the LS motor inside. I seen drag prepped S2000 and they are really quick. The current record holder for fastest S2000 is still the 4 cylinder F22C but it fully billet top and bottom. But it not surprising to find 2JZ swapped S2000 as well. Currently where in Singapore where i live, clean S2000 are going around 55 grand to 110 grand depending on the age and the need to renew the Certificate of Entitlement and taxes for the next 10 years. Owning a nice sports car here is an expensive hobby. Cheers for the great review

Answering my own question...answer reviewing honda-tech forum is 200hp...so mods added ~30hp.

For street drivers, the best mod on this car is no mod. Why do we all seem driven to modify our cars? This car is terrific right out of the box. Mods will have almost no impact on performance - 95% of it is sound. Mods will not improve the value. Mods usually reduce the value. People, just buy one that is 100% stock and leave it alone. Maintain it and drive it. Supercharge? Noooooo. Leave it alone.

Why wouldn’t you want better hp or handling lol
@robgerety6 жыл бұрын
There is plenty of power and excellent handling just as it is. The typical mods we do reduce value and reliability. If you want more horsepower buy a corvette.
@cptnsx2 жыл бұрын
@@robgerety You are STUPID - the 06-09 with a HFC or test pipe and tune (WHICH ARE EASILY reversible) adds about 20rwtq to the car in the MID RANGE right where the stock cats create a resonance. Plus about 10rwhp and +300 rpm at redline. Those are the BEST mod because it helps the car with the big hole in the mid range before VTEC and allows 60 mph without an upshift. Every person on the S2000 boards agrees.

Raiti's Rides no it's not. It must be over 1200 kg. My crx came from the factory at 899kg. S2000 is not exactly a lightweight. Especially with all the extra reinforcement it needed because of being a convertible.

haha wtf is this, if you want a fast car you should have bought a fast car. S2000 are slow, you need at least a small turbo to make them feel fast. Maybe if you are a mid age man with a Bluetooth head set, this is fast but now a days most sport cars have 370hp and above from factory.
@RaitisRides6 жыл бұрын
SURTO FAK Fast is very subjective. If you are on a tight twisty road, or autocross track these s2009s can be lethal.
@hardup98096 жыл бұрын
People throw numbers out all the time about new sports cars but conveniently leave out the facts like these cars and brzs weigh 800-1000lbs less then most of the market
