When I was younger, I worked for a company that was hired by banks to clean out foreclosed/abandoned houses. Long story short, while cleaning out a house I came across an old looking fender jazz bass. It was in pretty decent condition considering it was sitting in a basement for who knows how long. Took it to a guitar shop near by and the guy couldn't believe it, an intact 1968 fender jazz with original hardware. I had it for years before trading it, but I'll always remember how well it played despite being 40 years old. Point of the story is: you know that old guitar or instrument you found in your grandparents attic? Don't throw it away!!!!! lol

@@donwheeler1208 WRONG. There have been many different descriptions over the years of what this "burst" color is, was, and now called. To include: Vintage burst, tobacco burst, or tri-burst, because there was a third tangerine like color in between the lemon drop and the very dark brown color. Quite often, the original sunburst Les Paul's pigment would fade in infrared sunlight. They would go through a chemical process as they faded. Certain aspects if the pigment would fade before others, resulting in a dark brown burst. Eventually, all of the pigment would fade away, leaving only the yellow, becoming a "lemon drop". The original sales text describes the burst as simply "burst" or "tri-burst". All of the later terms were just word of mouth terms made up by salesmen at pawn shops, music shops, and collectors.

An interesting thing about this guitar is it has what are called "Mickey Mouse" ears (the cutaways at the neck). They were the second version of the cutaways on the 335 after a short run in 1958 where they looked more like 1966, then came these. The problem is they were discontinued in 1963 so this guitar is probably older than a 1964. Look of photos of Clapton's '64 then look at this one. But hey, stranger things have happened.

The ES-335 did not originally have P-90’s, it was introduced with PAF’s. PAF’s were slowly phased out with Patent Number pickups over the course of several years. Indeed, late PAF and early Patent Number pickups are virtually indistinguishable and many guitars in that time period have both. Differences in the two pickups up to the time of this guitar’s construction are negligible at best.

O.P. Yates I am a dealer! Have been for 20 years. Can do part ex, 0% finance etc and still not so easy! Dealers can’t get 3x4 times the amount, lucky to get 15% more in my experience. The point is we all think these guitars achieve the Reverb list prices but the reality is they most often don’t. A mate of mine watched Joe Bonamassa haggle for a ‘61 es-335 in a shop on south coast of England two years ago, they wanted £15k (ticket price), he wouldn’t pay more then £11k for it ($14k) and they gave in and sold it to him as they to realise there just aren’t guys regularly around who will get £15k out their pockets. That’s a 2 x paf guitar, 1 owner, mint and it takes Joe Bonamassa offering £11k to see it sell. I wonder if you owned the guitar in this vid and wanted to sell it in say 3 months what you’d actually get for it, I think you’d find it harder then you’d expect. Just my two pence worth mind. 👍

No, they were almost identical but not exactly. "Gibson began use of the PAF on higher-model guitars in late 1956 and stopped in late 1962. They were replaced by the Patent Number (Pat No) pickup, essentially a refined version of the PAF" from wikipedia

In 1964 there had been quite a few changes from the ones made in 1957, most notably the magnets. The winding wire is also a little different.

That is a beauty, lets hope the dude does'nt part with it, the Sunburst is spot-on. I thought the 335 had a laminated maple top and back with mohagany sides and not the "Body made of Maple" ? Anyway too cheap a quote, a similar new version put through C Shop and Murphy is almost 9K anyway.

The appraiser isn't a true guitar appraiser, so he doesn't truly understand all of the specific selling points of a guitar like this. SPECIFICALLY: 1. Original case, complete with what is known as "case candy" like the manual, receipt, and truss rod adjustment tool. 2. All original parts on the guitar. Quite often, guitars will get new pickups, truss rod cover, tuning knobs, pick guard, pickup surrounds, the poker chip at the selection switch, tuning keys, ABR bridge, and saddle nut. 3. After years of playing the finish might have been redone. If it is original, this is a selling point. 4. If the wiring inside the guitar is original, this is a selling point to collectors. 5. An appraiser of guitars must allways show the serial number and point out when and where the guitar was manufactured. 6. Last, but not least, dings, dents, scratches, or repairs. 7. Depending upon having everything I have just mentioned, the case, the condition, or who owned the guitar, this guitar would be worth $20,000-$40,000.
