Best Motorcycle Gear for Autumn Winter | Knox
This video is about my motorcycle riding gear set up for Autumn and the best motorcycle gear for Winter and the products I'll be using over the next 4-5 months on the motorcycle. Today I’m on the Husqvarna Vitpilen 701, but Ill most be riding my Suzuki GSXR 750 plus a couple of others.
Riding in the Autumn and Winter is obviously not always as enjoyable as spring summer, but that doesn’t mean it has to be miserable, in fact gear up with the right products and you can still have a great time! Also, riding in the wet can often teach you more about riding than on warm tarmac.
So here is my choice of gear!
Starting with the Dual Active Max Base Layer. I often don’t wear base layers, but when I do, I quickly remember why they are so important and the Max does a fantastic job of regulating my body temperature during the day.
Then over my base layer and the product I wear on every ride, the Knox Urbane Pro Shirt. This product needs no introduction, but is my foundation of upper body protection with abrasion resistance included no matter what bike I ride.
As the temperature has taken a hit, I need an extra layer, and the Knox Quilted Jacket MKII does a fantastic job! A downproof outer layer with Thermolite gold interior, this is a seriously warm layer and makes a huge difference. Traditionally, we would have said to wear these underneath the Urbane Pro, but in all of our testing, we haven’t any difference in practice, so I often wear mine on the outside.
In terms of trousers, I always wear either my Richmond MKII or my Knox Shield Jeans with Spectra. These are both AA CE rated, have excellent MircoLock protection in, and are perfect for all seasons.
Now that my protection is sorted, we just need to consider how to handle rain (if it comes). With this in mind I always take my Knox Waterproof Jacket and Trousers with me. This way, I don’t have bulky waterproofs on when it is not raining, and then when it does, I throw these over the top to stay 100% dry. Due to the laminated, seam sealed and single layer construction, this is a much more effective waterproof solution in comparison to standard motorcycle textiles, holds very little water and therefore is much warmer overall and dries within a few hours in comparison to a few days. The other benefit is that once I’m done with them, I just store them in my rucksack.
The new Knox Covert MKIII gloves finish my set up. These are a 3-season motorcycle glove with the Knox seal membrane. Unlike a traditional waterproof insert glove membrane, the Knox seal membrane is bonded to the outer leather meaning that there is no water ingress to the glove leaving it dryer, lighter and warmer. Due to the 3 season construction of the Covert MKIII, tactile feel with controls is great and once broken in, they are fantastic. Protection is uncompromised due to Knox SPS scaphoid protection system on the palm and MicroLock protection in the knuckle and fingers.

I like the Convert too,but it ain,t no 3 season glove,,,, in my opinion its a summer glove,,, I,m abit of a Knox fanboy (I,v got loads of the stuff,,) but just started to wear it differently ,, I now wear a thin fleece inside my armored vest and it work tons better much warmer,,on top of the amour I have another fleece,,,it was cold yesterday but I was so toasty.... The worse bit of kit from Knox for me has been the Zero gloves ,,frigging cold ,,no way could you use them down to zero...waste of money.... I hope does some Knox does a base layer but with armour in the knees,,Forcefield do them ,,,, regards

My handroid gloves were my favorite gloves by far but they wound up failing at the second retention thing and I wound up Having to toss them. One day I might gift myself a new pair

I do like my Urban Pro mesh shirt .. for hot weather.. I already have a goose down hikers jacket to wear under the insulated riding jacket and pants I already have.. Will look into the knox insulated jacket and pants a little more .. maybe just the pants..

I have been riding in the Canadian autumn this year on my Vitpilen with Knox gear. The lining on the Zero 3s didn't work out for me sadly (Knox customer service was great though, even all the way out here in Canada), but I've been wearing merino glove liners with my Handroid Pods (which is... useable but still pretty chilly when it's 0-5 Celcius, might get battery heated liners.... and I wish had a pair of Coverts), and warm baselayers under the Urbane Pro and my riding jeans, with a electric heated vest over that powered by a portable battery and fluffy midlayer on top of that and either a leather jacket or the Knox Oulton Jacket overtop that. Neck gaiter of course, and it all works out pretty well. Only part I'm still trying to find an optimal solution for is the glove. Merino liners are fine but at speed they're sub-optimal... Heated liners under Coverts might let me get down to 0-5C comfortably, since a heated liner under a wind/waterproof layer might be optimal for extreme cold. I'm gonna have to store the bike soon though, the roads will be covered in ice soon enough, but I managed to extend ride out into November (for context, some years I don't like *WALKING* in November cause of the cold). All that said... I'm *Canadian*... so this info might be good for you guys in the UK for a few more months if not keep you riding most of the year. I'm so happy with my Knox gear. I wish there were more dealers out this way but it's worth the shipping and customs to just order direct from Planet Knox, honestly. I cannot recommend the Urbane Pro to my friends enough.

@@Mrcool179 Love my urbane pro especially right now in the autumn, cause i can layer over it. At like noonish if it's warm enough I can still throw my leathers in a backpack and be armoured in the mesh layer, then once it gets cold in the afternoon/evening I can throw the leathers over it and be toasty. I ended up getting heated grips cause the winter Zero 3 gloves didn't work out for me and now my autumn riding is soooo perfect.

So membrane is laminated to the leather? Like HDry in Forma boots. Why dont u make more insulated version of this gloves?

Hi Andrew, thanks for the feedback! Actually both... after many years of making this type of glove, we have feedback that around half of riders put their gloves on the outside, half put them inside... therefore we try to design winter gloves with a non-bulky cuff that enables you to put it on the outside or the inside depending on your preference. We used to around 20 years ago. Truth is they don't work as well... the armour is much looser fitting, there isn't the same flexibility and when it does get wet, traditional textiles absorb water and can take days to dry. Thanks, KNOX
