I'd say anything 4 cylinder japanese with a tubular frame. Cheap. Easy to do, reliable and quick.

I have a bit of a monster Flat tracker... Buell S1 lightning frame, TL1000R 1140 Engine ported with Yoshi cams, Ducati ST2 front and rear end, SV1000 cooling system, hand made full flow pipes with Yoshi Cans, handmade ally tank, 19" Borini wires etc. It is pretty scary....😁

I would like to have seen pictures of the five bikes at the end at one time, not just the names. I don't have a memorized 'photo' for all of them, so actual pictures all at one time, would have helped, as well as been a good visual reference for what the 'tracker look' is all about, as currently defined. Fun issue to think about, keep it up!

Would love to see more of that sporty tracker. And I feel like the "patina" comment was a bit of a dig. Looks like he pretty obviously wen't for that aeathetic. I have a sporty brat build and I did the same with my tank. Forced "patina"... rust basically. Then chemically treated to stop the process and satin "clear" coated. Ibjust like the look of it it. It's all kinds of mad max and looks cool as hell. I think his sporty is looking completely bad assnand I really want to see it in detail. l absolutely LIVE the seat design. Really inspiring. My bike I built more in that "Crazy Orange" style butbI am serioualy considering switching gears and doing a tracker esque style bike. I have only done a few mods that involved the chop chop, so I totally could do it. But man....I do REALLY like what I've done with it already. Maybe I just need another bike. I have had my eye out for a Honda CB for the last 5 years and even here in Idaho, where there is very little custom bike culture, they are becoming impossible to find running for a FAIR, not even good, just a fair deal on one is rare. Saw a guy wanting 2k for a non running 750 in middling shape, and another guy wanting 4k for a mid 80s one that was running but not idling right and dying on throttle. Potentially easy fix but the rest of the bike was in slightly rough shape (surface rust, exhaust pretty rusty, bad paint fading, tear in seat and just generally grimy and dinged up. Looked like it was stored under a tarp in brutal Idaho weather for a few years at least). Prices are just getting stupid.And I'm kinda running out of room anyway. Need to build a small shop in the back yard...
My choices: 1: 1200 Sportster. Easy to build, cheap, cool points for days. 2: XS650. Easy to build, if you're lucky you'll score an actual flat track frame for a good deal, sweet little powerplant. 3: CB750. There's plenty of hacked up examples too far gone to be worth returning to stock, Airtech Streamlining sells a rad tracker kit for them, easy to build, and you can never go wrong with these bikes. 4: Kawasaki W650. Only if you can find one that has been messed with. Too cool to chop up a clean stock one. But you get British style with Japanese engineering. 5: KZ750 twin. Plenty of power, cheap, good enough geometry. Honorable mention: CR500 framer. Throwing this one in there because we all need a CR500 street bike and I saw one that I will never get out of my head until I own one like it.

Honda crf you can put that classic tank and custom dual seat to give it the same look as the other bikes but with single rear shock, and will be more versatile Disappointed that it was taken down Also would had been nice if you did before and after photos of these bikes

It's clear this was put into a box dispute the opening saying anything that gets you in the ball park. Who wouldn't like to see a build with fuel injection.

I'm thinking of using a 1989 XT 600 to do a flat tracker. Does anybody know if there are any issues with this bike to do that?

I have say that was disappointing. A street tracker is a street bike that actually looks like a flat tracker. That Harley does not look like a flat tracker. It could, but that one is ill conceived. Examples are what would make it a useful video.

Trackers/bobbers/caferacers etc look nice on your Instagram but are a waste of time and money. keep these old motorcycles stock and spend your money on maintenance. That way you can actually enjoy the bike instead of having your "project bike" stuck in a shed somewhere while your mates are out riding.

Eh, I have an XS tracker, 17" wheels, monoshock, showa BPF, rephased, EFI. Paid $100 for the bike one step away from the scrap yard. Have about $4k in it now, but everything is new on it and I've been commuting on it. Built properly they ride nice, but a lot of the "insta" builds are garbage. Too low, crap tires, built for looks not handling, only goes out for pics.

I think a Yamaha RD350/400 would make a great street tracker but finding one? Shame to ruin an already cool bike.
@upsidedowndog12565 жыл бұрын
@Justin Dawes That is probably easier than finding a decent one. But even then, they are already cool as they are!

Too much time yammering on about classifying bikes. It turns modifying a bike to work better into just a platform for a bunch of talk. How about just talking about different bikes and how they'd perform for different applications involving actual use rather than whether it "looks" like it would.
