As for the show, I absolutely love it and will sorely miss it. This show always made me feel happy knowing there were people who enjoy cars just as much as I do, in the same way I do. From simple aesthetics, to driving pleasure and performance on roads/tracks, all the way to the technical engineering discussions of the cars themselves. The types of people you could walk up to and talk tech about suspension components without them looking at you like you've gone mad, like the general public does.

1:08:55 The fix is in. From that point to the end of the race, the Murcielago driver is shifting at 7000rpm, a full 1300rpm short of the redline, every shift. Effectively tossing the race to the GTR. Just take a look!

They're aiming for a 7.32 set by a GT2. A little over ten years later another lightly tuned GT2 RS takes almost an entire minute out of that time with a 6.40 lap. Absolutely crazy progress.

Love this car the most. At the first test, the lighter Phantom GTR time attack at Tsukuba is pretty pointless, well, of course a lighter GTR with suspension tune, more down force, lower height+ different tire will be faster, not to mention there's also camber tuning as well. The front tire is sections 285... That's more than the new Ferrari F12 TDF is just 275... For the powerband, VR38DETT is the best engine to tune, not just more power biut also the adjust ability. You can choose different boost setting at different rpm. Like the setting at the Phantom, low boost half throttle, full boost at full throttle to increase stability by delaying urgent torque and causes both under and over steer which will decrease acceleration at corner exit. I just love how you can adjust boost at different rpm like in most American tuned GTR like AMS, T1 featuring EcuTek brake boost by up/down shift to set rpm, cruise control to set boost, apply brake and throttle, cancel cruise control as long as release throttle to get max acceleration. Love the adjustment capacity of this engine so fucking much! For the track battle, the GTR is damn impressive with a 1:07 seconds lap, the GTR comes alive under braking, turnout and even apex interestingly.. The car weight so much, yet seems have a shorter braking distance and the braking are also balanced, not sure if it's ABS or the VDC that trying to equalize the spinning rate of each wheel. If it does, the computer in the Nissan must be super fast. The apex speed and turnout must have a lot to do with either ESC and ETS. Notice the Nissan relied on rear wheels more than the front wheel in order to have enough turning to reduce the effective of under steering, unlike Gallardo, Porsche and Murcilago, putting too much power at specific wheel inefficiently also slowly. The reason I say slowly is because of their viscous differential instead of GTR's multi-plate clutch. For the last test on Nurburgring, the chief engineer said the VDC is to brake or send power away in order to keep all wheel spinning at the same speed, I have a question, what if the car is moving towards left, will the system start yawing the car back to straight by slowing the spin rate of right more than the spin rate of left instead of letting them to spin at the same speed? At last, the driver talks about the damping bypass, I think the chief engineer was set the bypass rate at rough track mode, so the damper is much softer and reducing rebound in order to get rid of weight transfer. Brilliant. But I think the car is too heavy for using soft mode, the weight of the car will pretty much reducing the energy from renouncing, again, heavier car needs much agile setting to increase the response of the car. Anyway, GTR is all time best car ever built.

Hey guys. To all those who are saying it's biased, one could argue. The GT-R had a faster "fastest lap" than the Mercialago. Also, the Mercialago is known to have Exhaust heat problems during full throttle. This could be the reason he wasn't taking it to full RPMS, because it isn't his car and he doesn't want to pay for the damage if there was any. Also, to the guy talking about powerband on N/A cars, your statement is false. There are a lot of cars who have the torque drop a little just before red line. A lot of cars out there may perform better if you shift just slightly before. I don't know much about the Mercialago powerband, you'd have to look at it before commenting. Even if it doesn't lose torque, the car did still have and is known for exhaust heat problems and the driver probably didn't want to pay for it. Also, even if the Mercialago did win the race, the point is, the GTR is whole load cheaper and more comfortable as a daily driver. It's cheaper, more practical, more efficient and probably easier to park etc,. Oh, and lastly, about the Bonus lap. Yeah it does seem dodgy, however look at the bright side. They didn't just do it to give the GTR a chance to win (it already has the faster lap time), they did it to show the battle between the Gallardo and the Porsche at the back. If either had started to pull away from the other, it would show good endurance and durability throughout battle. Thanks for reading. :) Much respect to Japan. Poor guys had a 280hp limit until roughly 2005-ish and they had mostly winding roads. They never really were about straight line speed, but more about the total balance and overall performance as a car, along with every day usability.

Yasuke Grace Hi Yasuke. Your point regarding the Murcielago's exhaust overheating on the last lap would have been a good one, if it weren't for the fact that the Murcielago's driver's was short shifting right from the start of the race (59:53) by over 1,000 RPM. Further, the Murcielago's dyno chart shows the HP curve sustain (and not fall off) all the way past 8,000 RPM. Not utilizing that car's biggest strength (it's power) would play a significant role on this track, both in overall race pace, and its fastest lap time. I love Best Motoring. I can watch it for hours. I do wish they would also disclose the tire compound the cars run. The GTR comes with 2 compounds, the standard tire compound and a sticker option. I believe they use the stickier option for the test car.

Alex Muresan Hi Alex, thanks for researching the powerband of the Mercialago for me. I agree, maybe it was a bit of a biased battle, which is a bit silly. However, I still massively respect the Japanese. The car industry was and still is massively declining because of the massively restricted emission controls. The guys don't have any room to make performance vehicles. Also, I still see the GTR as a better car even to this day. I've seen more than enough documentaries about it and I thoroughly can feel the passion devoted to their famous GTR. Thanks! :)

Yasuke Grace Don't get me wrong Yasuke - the GTR is the epitome of a well engineered car that's making full use of today's best technology. I personally prefer more 'raw' sports cars (RWD, lighter weight, no electronic aids, no electronic diffs, no electronic rev matching, no rear wheel steering, with a manual box and clutch pedal - 997.2 GT3 is a great example of this), even if in today's day and age these pure sports cars are slower than those with all the gizmos, but nevertheless I really respect the GTR. Amazing car and performance.

+Alex Muresan It might seem he is short shifting but Murcielago has redline set at 8000 rpm, and from what i know it produces its peak power quite early thanks to its large displacement V12. It's torque actually substantly drops past 6500rpm achieving lowest point at 7500 rpm. Well this is all i can remember regarding this car. On side note the car was later fitted with Office-K exhaust and it showed some improvment smoothing out torque curve in low and high rpm range. Also on side note it might seem to be showing lower rpms due to camera being at angle.

The Murcielago was overheating and to save the car the driver had to short-shift. Maybe the Murcielago would've won if not for this although i still think the extra lap was stupid.

To the people who thinks that the Japanese are bias to their car. For your information they did go full throttle and you can't really tell that they are going full throttle on the Euro cars as it is not visible when the throttle is being covered by the driver's feet. When you get a chance to get into any of this cars, you will know that they did do go on full throttle. But I do admit that the bonus round was a little stupid. Still the whole video is great for people that are happy with any cars.

its not allowed in germany to drive such speeds in the RAIN, the speed goes down to 100 km/h in the rain, if a police officer gets you, the payment is very HIGH it is 800 €, but thats not a problem for nissan i think LOL but i admit, the new GT-R is ( as the video says) nissans flagship, its a cracking fast car and value for money.

You're saying, "by revving higher the Lambo could lap slower" and you're dead wrong. Its a Murcielago, with a highly tuned, naturally aspirated motor - a linear powerband. In that vehicle, like all naturally aspirated sports cars, shifting over 1000RPM short of redline will absolutely guarantee a slower lap time. I think doing research and knowing your facts before making a frankly ridiculous comment are better for you:)

People are wondering why they stopped. It's simple, the business world doesn't allow it. Despite the content of this show being amazing to car enthusiasts, the car enthusiast numbers are dwindling with younger generations of people being at an all time low IQ level. Not to mention, even less than the total number of enthusiasts actually know about the BMI series. And in the world of business the numbers don't make enough money for greedy producers for them to be bothered to keep paying for it.

Yeah and the guy says "I'm losing power!" as if he doesn't notice himself not using the full powerband. These are JGTC drivers, they are plenty aware of how to drive automobiles to their limits. That's the one thing that pisses me off about Best Motoring, the strong bias towards their domestic vehicles. Its a great show, but by being dishonest/biased it costs them credibility.
