Best North Georgia Towns To Live Part 2 | Dahlonega | Helen | Hiawassee | North GA Mountains

Welcome back to part 2 of this 2 video series on the best North Georgia Mountains Towns to live. If you haven't seen part 1, make sure to check that out! Today is all about Dahlonega, Helen and Hiawassee.
Dahlonega - An hour north of Atlanta, population 7004 in 2020, and known for the first major site of the US Gold Rush. This charming mountain town has so much to offer between the bustling downtown area to wineries and all the outdoor activities, it is sure to leave you wanting more.
Helen - 1.5 hours north of Atlanta, population 546 in 2020, and known for its Alpine German style village. This is a huge tourist attraction, widely known for tubing in the summer and Oktoberfest in the fall.
Hiawassee - 2 hours north of Atlanta, population 1104 in 2020, and known for Brasstown Bald. This lovely lake mountain town has the best views around!

This made me smile so much! Hiawassee is where my family is from. It is also where my father & aunt were both recently laid to rest this past spring near beautiful Lake Chatuge. I’ve always considered Hiawassee my home away from home. Growing up my Dad never moved there due to lack of work as it was very small back then. Now… I find myself day dreaming of leaving behind this crazy busy city life in Florida to connect with my Georgia family history! Hiawassee has always been where I pictured living eventually but you have peaked my interest in Dahlonega for employment reasons. Hubby & I work for our local college & joke about finding a mountain college town to relocate to & work at. Guess we better look at Young Harris & Dahlonega! Love the videos, thank you for sharing the beautiful mountains!

I am related to the Ellers, my dad was born in what use to be the music barn in downtown decades ago! The cabin was originally located off up upperhightower Rd. it was taken down and rebuilt for community use. I too fantasize about moving to Hiawassee in a few years! I am exploring work from home opportunities to help make our snow birding a success ( Florida & Georgia). I want to do summers in Ga and winters in florida.

It's really hard to select my favorite. I live in Dawsonville, but I spend many weekends in Dahlonega. In the summer, don't forget Suches and Two Wheels of Suches. It's just fantastic!

Something that would be great to add would be the quality of the schools. Because as much as I’d love to live in N GA, often the schools are not as high quality as they are in metro Atlanta.

Once again, a fantastic and informative vid. Do you happen to have the population growth information for the towns (Part 1 and 2)? Doesn't have to be "down in the weeds" specific but just trying to get a feel for what we can expect. We're fine with growth but trying to avoid "boom-towns". We stayed in Jasper, to check it out, at the end of May. However, it, along with Dahlonega make us nervous being only 1 hour away from ATL. Hiawassee and Blairsville, so far, are at the top of our list (we've visited both and will be back).

I don’t currently have the growth information, but I can certainly try to find out and get back to you. Living in Blairsville, we definitely don’t feel any effects from Atlanta. We still visit south of Atlanta often, and as soon as we make it to Jasper, we already feel more at ease…less traffic and less people. Lol!

Probably Blue Ridge & Ellijay, as their tourist attraction is heavier.

Murphy, NC does not have a large tourist attraction. You do have some short term rentals there, but not a large pull for tourists.

Yes, Amanda Walker is correct, I am standing on the Towns County beach, located across from the Georgia Mountain Fairgrounds. It is truly so beautiful over in Hiawassee and Lake Chatuge!!

From Blairsville do you have to drive through blood mountain to get to those towns?

If you are trying to go to Dahlonega, Dawsonville or Gainesville areas, you will have to drive through blood mountain OR you would go down to Ellijay and go a different way to avoid blood mountain. If you are going to Canton, Woodstock, Kennesaw or other Atlanta areas, no windy mountain roads, just Hwy 515 to Interstate 575 to Interstate 75.

@@higherelevationsrealestate I love Hiawassee, it is close to Murphy, NC. (casino) I really loved Blue Ridge when we took a short trip there last fall. We stayed in a cabin at Mineral Bluff. I don't have a particular town in mind. I've been to several of them. I need to discuss this with my children and I will send you a text.
