Hey friends! Welcome back and let's talk about my top 5 favorite fragrances of 2022. Unfortunately with this particular brand I also have to address a lot of the issues they struggled with last year as well. Overall, I am still a HomeWorx candle lover. I do not want to minimize people's frustrations but I also maintain hope that the HomeWorx teams institutes some changes and once again becomes the brand that is a go to for a lot of people. I do welcome you to leave your experience and thoughts down below in the comments but please be respectful and constructive. It’s so interesting how the Slatkins, Harry in particular will be the first to toot their own horn, insist they are the best and that they have a hand in every aspect of production. Fact is they live in a totally different world than their customer demographic and as I’ve said before we are the fools for buying into it. Tbh qvc is the machine that churns out this charlatan style behavior. Convince people at home that it’s a commodity they need. It’s really all a big joke. We don’t need these, no one does, it’s frustrating to hear people can’t stop buying and are forced to hoard this stuff. There is something to be said about the brain / scent addiction path, I’ll be the first to admit I probably have it too. That being said the lab, I think Harry uses Givaudan, does do beautiful scents and I really appreciate that. I used to work for a French candle house and it’s really kind of gross how they encourage the addiction feeding.

Oh I have thought that the presentations of QVC have been way over the top for decades now. For everything they sell. It's always the best of the best. I remember watching with my mother in the 90's and thinking holy cannoli. Home fragrance is definitely a market that feeds the buy buy buy machine. But so does the beauty industry. The tech industry. The car industry. I think our culture in general is centered around collecting things and upgrading them as soon as the next big thing comes around. I do think it would behove a lot of companies to step back and think of things from a more "common man" perspective. Most of us have to budget for luxuries like candles. It's a frivolous fun purchase. No one needs candles. But it's fun. It can help play in a roll in making some memories (scent memory is a real thing). But candles are the very first thing I would cut if I needed to free up room in my budget. Harry is a consummate sales person. I think he has been his whole life honestly. I don't think that's a bad thing necessarily. We all have our things that we excel at that hopefully we can use to eek out a living. Selling my work as a florist was never my favorite part. I like the "doing" of the floral creations. But having to sell my ability to create beauty for someone's big day I absolutely hated and sucked at. Luckily I was referred enough to make a good living without having to do it to much.

I have shared many frustrations with this brand that you mentioned in your video. I have stopped purchasing from them, and it is unlikely I ever will again. The great thing about home fragrance is that if one brand isn't checking all the boxes then it is easy to move on to one that does. No drama required. Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us!

Melanie, Thank you for sharing your honest, unbiased thoughts & constructive feedback. I did move on from Homeworx after a few unpleasant experiences. Candles have been a fun hobby of mine for many years. IMO, moving on when the candles from a particular company are no longer joyful is proactive & positive. Voting with your own dollars is sound. There are many good candle brand options for fragrance lovers. Here’s to many good candles for everyone in 2023! 🕊️☘️

It's such a shame about the problems with Homeworx. I have always loved the scents created by Harry so I really hope things turn around in the near future. I do rely on your reviews so thanks for all the reviews you do on your channel. I'm taking a break from Homeworx for now but as soon as the problems are resolved, I will buy again. Thanks Melanie!

I’m a huge HW fan. I find their scents are unrivaled and I’m sticking with them. Whatever…it’s just candles. They’ve always made things right for me and I unapologetically ADORE them. Cheers to many new great sniffs in the New Year, Melanie!

Great video, Melanie. This is the first one of your videos that I have commented on since the new year, so happy 2023! It is very obvious that you care about the HoneWorx brand and want it to succeed. I really appreciate the way you have articulated everything that has gone wrong with this brand and their candles over the last year. I have not had the problem of losing wicks, but I have noticed a fair amount of sooting and also having to burn the candles for longer than 3 hours because areas of unmelted wax remain along the edges. I have ended up having to wrap foil around the candle to finally get those areas to melt. This causes the jar itself to become very hot and I had to use an oven mitt to pick it up to take outside to blow out. For the price point of $30, I feel like these issues shouldn’t be happening with the regularity that I am seeing. My favorites from 2022: Pink Poppy & Apricot, Coconut Lychee (a surprise for me), Sea Breeze, Spiced Apple Crumb, and Snowy Sleigh Ride.

I appreciate that! I love that I can be honest with HomeWorx. I share my thoughts and concerns directly with my contact at the company whenever I see things that are important to point out. And honestly, they are receptive. I have never been poopooed or written off. They do listen. They are aware that last year was rough. But I just don't think its in Harry's style to necessarily talk about those things publicly. Some people are a lot more private and I guess that should be respected. I just hope behind the scenes changes can bring us back to the glory days of HomeWorx!

It did and as I get older I'm 44 it goes faster every year so you just have to enjoy every second of it because now my kids are 17 15 and 13 and there alone I don't know where the time went

I still really enjoy Homeworx. I avoided the shipping debacle only because of the size of my collection! I look at it like there are issues we encounter with all brands. Especially since COVID. I was salty about the wicks but it seems they improved that!! Happy New Year Melanie!

I personally love Homeworx and haven’t really any major issues. A few here and there but nothing out of the ordinary. But whatever they need to do to keep the brand around I hope they do it. … and you are so right the Facebook group has turned in to a pissing party 😑 it’s almost like this used to be a fan club but now it’s so negative I barely log in abd when I do it’s post something positive because these are still really nice candles. I’m burning a few right now and they are burning flawless Nobody does it like Harry. Thanks for the video I always look forward to your videos especially the Homeworx content. Happy New Year ❤

One thing I have not really mentioned is that fact that there is a very clear rule in the group that any issues with order should be shared directly with the company versus coming to the group for "resolution" or to commiserate. Because in reality, the group cannot resolve a shipping issue or a problem with a candle. HOWEVER, when everything started going wrong I reached out to HomeWorx and asked if we could keep those posts as a record and to hopefully help the HomeWorx team create a list of issues to address. They said yes, keep the comments. They could have very easily said, anything customer service related gets deleted and they need to reach out to us directly. I admire that because it did change the dynamics of the group and not necessarily for the better in terms of making it a place of joy and sharing the love of the candles... and also addressing some issues here and there. They did NOT want to censor. And that part matters. Not that I think a lot of participants in the group even realized that necessarily. I don't own the group neither does Brett. It actually belongs to HomeWorx. And just to be clear, we are NOT paid in ANY kind of way. In the past sometimes we got a few extra PR items but that went away when they started the ambassador program. I do this because in the past it was a place where I got some super useful feedback and reviews and the group was kind another happy place for myself. We just moderate, handle the letting in of the people and making sure it doesn't turn into a total poopfest, as we all well know in the days of the internet, is a thing unfortunately. There are a lot of opinions and a lot of people happy to share theirs. I do have to applaud HomeWorx for letting all the negativity stay and taking it all in.

Yeah, it is funny when real-life problems crop up, everything else is put in perspective. Was I frustrated with my late Homeworx order? Yup. Am I going to waste another minute of my life ragging about it? Nope. Don’t have the bandwidth for all that. Plus, I’m really happy my monster Homeworx candle arrived - it is red and I can easily work it into my Valentine’s Day décor. ❤ Love your content, Melanie. 🙂

You always present this type of information in a very thoughtful manner. I agree that hateful bashing is not going to help as it won't come across as constructive criticism and it won't be taken seriously. Talking to someone in customer service would go a long way in making customers feel validated. However, people would be so mean and hateful to the people that would work in those jobs. I would not want to be in that position. Harry has a lot of damage control to deal with this coming year. It will be interesting to see how all of this will be addressed and if they truly listen to their customers. For me, I will wait to see how it plays out before purchasing again. Thanks again for your thoughtful discussion of these issues, I hope Harry listens!

Hi Melanie nice to see u and Alf. I will buy from homeworx . I will slow down. I missed out on things I wanted. I loved lemon shortbread is awesome. Spooky vanilla I really like and lemon chello and chocolate birthday day cake were my favorites. I want to try the apple crumble cake. That was one I missed. I want some on qvc but very expensive lately. Have a great day

Yes qvc raised all their prices on Homeworx even though those are all old candles! Just ridiculous!

You aren't crapping on HW you are saying all the things that we all are thinking about the brand. I still love the brand and I will give them time to address the problems. If Harry doesn't improve on the issues then I will reevaluate it at that time. I totally understand peoples frustration and I hope the problems get fixed because they really are some of my my favorites. I like HomeWorx. Especially their candle accessories. I didn't have any issues with them last year. That could be because I only purchased early in the year. I will continue to purchase from them as long as the price & quality is reasonable for me.

My order in November did take awhile but it is a smaller company so I wasn't worried. It took three weeks and then good ol fed ex delivered to my neighbors. Luckily I have good neighbors and was able to grab it from them. I did place a Valentine's candle order yesterday and it already shipped. I think they got overwhelmed and they do need to hire more people during peak seasons and sales. I don't really like talking to people so I would love a live chat feature. For the people that do like a person to talk to I do think they should offer a few hours where people to call in like you mentioned. I love Harry's gourmands and will continue to purchase but I won't be hoarding them. 😊

I truly hope people don’t post some rude comments here. You are not the CEO of Homeworx. Your honesty and straightforward approach to the issues at hand is valid. I do feel this company can turn things around. A lot of work goes into creating these fragrances and I find it hard to believe they would not try to improve things. I have several favorites from this brand as well. Thank you for sharing yours!

I agree with your thoughts about Harry’s gourmand fragrances. They are just SO GOOD. I was caught up in the whole shipping debacle. It was annoying. But, I must say, when I get a really good Homeworx candle, I am willing to forgive. I just finished my two Homeworx Eggnog French Toast candles. So.Damn.Yummy!!! I ordered all of the Valentines candles last week and they are slated to arrive on Saturday. That is the fastest I’ve ever received an order (I’m on the West Coast also). So maybe they are listening and trying to address problems.

I really believe that they are. It's not like they can't quite frankly. Every company has growing pains and struggles. Sometimes there are years that are just rough. I do remain hopeful. Eggnog French Toast was yummy!

Just an observation on the "made in the USA" topic... I'm one of the rare people that enjoys Scentworx just as much, and sometimes more than Homeworx (especially in 2022 with all the Homeworx issues). That being said, I've been noticing for a long time now that all the Scentworx I purchase are all made in USA. I'm curious on your and other's thoughts on why, if manufacturing is less expensive overseas, they wouldn't move ALL Slatkin candle manufacturing overseas. Now, obviously, I'd prefer it all be here in America but my point is, if it's a matter of cost savings, what is the reason for not moving it all overseas? Anyway, the fact that Scentworx is all made here in America, is just another reason I'll continue to buy them as much or more so than Homeworx. I too have faith they'll get it all figured out and even if it takes a while, Lord knows I have a big enough stash of candles to give Harry and the team all of 2023 (and probably '24) to get the issues fixed and never slow my candle burning or run out of Slatkin candles to burn. 😳😇😁

I agree, though I’m new to the FB group the last two months for sure felt more like angry mob than candle fans gathering. I’m with you, I’m hopeful they get it together. I still love my Homeworx candles. Unfortunately I had issues with my order during the December catastrophe. I only placed an order because I wanted the Blueberry Muffin scent. I wasn’t even that upset at how late the order was since I have plenty of candles and none were going to be gifts. What finally got me irritated was the fact that I only received two of the candles then had to track them down to get a refund. And then didn’t get a refund until I placed a claim with PayPal. So with that said I just probably won’t order from their website for a long time. I always had those weird glitches too. I won’t order until they get their shit together over on the .shop site. But I don’t have many of the wick issues a lot of people have. I love the scents and really the only performance issue I really have is some of the candles are way too light. But other than that I still love them. I was irritated by the whole ordeal but nothing that cause be to be enraged lol! There are more important things in life lol! I love Blueberry Cheesecake too! That was one of the ones they actually did ship to me 😊

I had the same problem didn’t receive 3 of the candles I ordered and no refund until I told them I was putting in a claim to my credit card company and report them to the BBB! Otherwise I’m sure I wouldn’t have received a refund which doesn’t seem on the up and up to me. Its not like they apologized for my missing candles and refunded me on their own! I think they were hoping people wouldn’t notice.

I did not inquired about my refund as a test. It was returned to me without asking. I think they were slammed with having to refund and likely had to do it in batches. But I got my money back within a week.

@@MrKongsMom that’s good that you tested them. I had emailed saying I didn’t receive my candles and wanted either a replacement or a refund but heard nothing after a week. So then I emailed again and said I guess since they didn’t respond I would have to put in a claim to my credit card company and report them to to the Better Business Bureau 😂😂 then I finally got a response and refund a few days later but it took awhile. Of course they said they oversold the candles but obviously it was more than just that since I ordereded them before thanksgiving and people received them who ordered much later than me over Black Friday weekend!

I am just as irritated as the next person about HW, and I do not have a lot of money at all to be wasting, but I still cannot understand why people are SO angry. The fact that you can even purchase something as frivolous as candles is a blessing. If you don’t like them just don’t buy them anymore and move on.

Yes, a lot of the people who started with the brand originally I think are the most disappointed with last year. They are capable of producing some of the most amazing scents. I think they just need a review of where in the process things are not going right and course correct. All companies have ups and downs. And it seemed like 2022 was a rough year for not only a lot of people, but companies as well.

The reason that so many were outraged wasn’t so much of shipping delays it was a lot to do with notification of a fulfilled order to have candles missing with no refund for the missing candles, no response from customer service through email about missing candles, there are a lot of candle companies out there and even with the problems with scent and throw his loyal customers still were buying in hope Harry would turn it around…His loyal customers of many years felt betrayed by the company.

@@isabelr6292 I totally understand the outrage and it’s warranted - I’m mainly referring to the people who are just outright hateful about it as if it’s the worst problem anyone could have and not providing constructive feedback that the brand will listen to. HW definitely deserves backlash and needs to reevaluate the decisions they have made. The best thing we can do is vote with our pockets. Trust that Harry will not jeopardize his $.

I will say, I did not immediately inquire about a refund. I kind of wanted to test the process and see how long it would take and it took about a week I think to see the funds back, but they put the money back without me having to ask (not that I should have to obviously). But I do understand that there are some who cannot wait that long for a refund. Nor should they. But I think the amount of refunds they had to do probably clogged the system a bit and it took them a while to catch up. They do not have a huge team, which I think should be reevaluated as well. For the amount they sell, they should have more than enough staffing to respond super promptly. Again, another thing that I think would be caught in an internal audit and easily resolved if its a priority to the company. We will absolutely see where the priorities lie over the course of the next year I think.

This is such a great video because I feel like as an amassador for any company it can be hard to talk about the downside of things and I totally agree! It's candles at the end of the day I'm not going to let it get me worked up but it was a huge disappointment with the Black Friday/holiday sale. I did order 2 Valentine's Day candles to try and it was shipped in a timely manner and no packaging issues. I do think communication from the brand itself on what's next, updates on concerns that we have or any other things they can let us know by a simple Facebook/IG post would be a great place to start to rebuild that loyalty and trust with consumers and their brand. I think a lot of negativity came from people who kept hearing about the brand and tried it for the first time this holiday season and it was a disappointment to a lot of people. I love that Facebook group and understand that it's a place to get help and insight on others people thoughts but at one point I had to mute it because it was like every day was something. I did post in there my thoughts and tried not to but I was at a loss because they would not reply to my emails even waiting the 72 hours between each email I sent so I had to go to my next best only because they do not have another form of customer service which is another thing they desperately need to work on. After that, then fix the candles and go back to that Harry Slatkin quality I once tried and I'm sure a lot of you guys who have known the brand longer have tried. I'm hoping for a better year this year for Homeworx

I do share your frustrations, but I hope things will improve over at Homeworx. I am taking a pause on ordering. Yes, the Facebook group was awful. Seems to have been one person in particular riling everyone up.

Hey Melanie, I'm new to Homeworx and haven't burned one yet, maybe Mulled Berry Cobbler would be my first. T.J. Maxx and Marshalls has them for $16.99 each instead of $30 each retail on their website. Every candle brand goes through drama and issues whether it's performance or their scents aren't good. I have 14 Homeworx candles which is nothing in comparison to Yankee lol. A few of the last batch I bought was Woodland Trail, Woodland Amber, Simply Cranberry, Wicked Cherry, and Cranberry Pumpkin Cake. Happy Burning.

No, I decided not to order them as I am trying to spend the first month or so of the new year getting through a bit more of my backup stash of candles. I will get back to buying and reviewing soon!

Forgot to say aside from some that had very weak throw the only real misses for me the past year was the Halloween collection. The only one I didn't hate was Spooky Vanilla ( zero throw though) but the rest in the collection were a total flop for me. I am a Halloween crone and adore spooky season above all others. I was so disappointed in the Halloween candles because they were beautiful. Super happy I got the jack o lantern and skulls pedestals but the actual candles were a big NO!! Fall on the other hand was amazing and I loved almost all of them.

I also agree that the Halloween products that really kicked it out of the park this year were for sure the pedestals. I am not a halloween person but even I can appreciate how cool those pedestals were.

People who are so aggressive you always see are the types who are always dramatic and thrive on outrage and finding things to be angry about in general. Don't let that affect you because you aren't like that. While I have all-time faves, like Autumn Pinecone, Harvest Leaves & White Birch, I did love the Orange Creamsicle & Strawberry Milkshake this year. Another surprise love was Apricot & Beach Sage. While pretty in the warm weather, it's also a really beautiful scent for a rainy day, a clean and fresh happy scent, and one fills my entire first floor. My biggest disappointments were the single note candles. I wish those threw better. Mixing with other scents, other scents drown them out, but, they were also created mid- world pandemic lockdown so I expect struggles from all manufacturers.

Sometimes they can take longer than others to get orders out. Usually big sales result in delays. They do need to get better about that. *assuming you bought from .shop, not Q.

Hello, just double checked, it does. It works on orders of $40 or more. But you cannot combine with other codes like your rewards for example. Happy shopping!

@@annoflower Sometimes you have to clear your browser. The HomeWorx website deals with some issues sometimes but the code is active. My girlfriend just used it this morning for the sale and it worked for me when I tested it. I really wish they could get website glitches cleared up but it seems to be a continuing struggle for them.

I’m really surprised that we haven’t heard much from Harry I know we got that one email regarding the shipping issues and got a free candle with purchase but besides that nothing I thought he would have posted something on Instagram regarding all issues. I know he listens to his customers.. I am very upset regarding these issues I loved the brand I also noticed fyi that the homeworxs that I found at Tj Maxx homegoods etc the quality was very bad so im a little iffy on buying from those stores for the homeworx candles the wicks dud out no scent at all so just a heads up for anyone that may want to buy them from there to avoid the homeworx website… I am pausing on buying from them for a while I need to see some major improvements before I will place an order from them.. they need to prove themselves again so let’s see what happens 🤞

Totally fair! I think a lot of people are doing that. The HomeGoods/Marshalls/TJ Maxx candle thing still confuses me. Although I do know the buyers for those companies buy in massive quantities so they get HUGE discounts on the lots. I think that is why the price is lower. But I am still not sure if they are of a different quality or from batches they maybe didn't pass quality control or they just over ordered and need to unload a certain amount to make profits back. I do know those stores can also carry those types of items. It's not necessarily a bad thing. For most a minor flaw is more than ok if the price is fantastic (and that's not just for candles).
