I always liked the old songs from mid-40s till mid-60s of Hindi films simply because the music directors were great maestros like Husnlal-Bhagatram, Ghulam Mohd., masterji Ghulam Hyder, the great Naushad, Chitalkar Ramchandra, Anil Biswas, Salilda, Sham Sunder, Shankar Jaikishan, Pt. Gobindram, S.D. Burman, O.P. Nayyar...the list is endless. So also the poetry from the great lyricsts were also superb especially from the pens of Rajendra Kishan, Qamar Jalalabadi, Shailendra, Tanvir Naqwi, Shakeel Badayuni, Kavi Pradeep, Hasrat Jaipuri, D.N. Madhok, Sahir Ludhianvi etc. The producers selected them so accurately that it was their imtentions not to erase these gems of songs from our memory! The great Mohd. Rafi, Talat Mehmood, Mukesh, Suraiya, Shamshad Begum, Geeta Dutt, Lata and Asha have sung these songs of that era that these songs have become evergreen and these will remain till eternity. God bless all who contributed their best in creating these medleys to keep millions like me ever young when hearing these songs with nostalgia!

Evergreen and everlasting songs that era was an era of high quality music and expression of emotions in poetry ,so poetry was very good in my childhoods these songs were played in gramophone and loudspeakers at various festivals or marriages and public transport also played them a nostalgic feeling ensue when I listen them my childhood characters and people and events come alive .

It does not matter the era, music from yester years, my grand parent..Indian born..would/should remain in every Indian heart. In those trying days filled with hardship, Indian suffered, and generations were separated, never to see each other, ever. My grand father had seven brothers, he left in India; traveling to Guyana. We all lost but these music & songs would always hold us together.

I don't understand the mentality of the ones who have submitted thumbs down on these beautiful songs. I don't understand Hindi but I love the songs and how well they were delivered. These thumbs downers might have had another reason after all they were getting these songs for free and if it was the songs they disliked, they would have switched over to another channel.

Sylvia, these are songs for the classes, not the masses. It's indeed sad to see a song released today with millions of views, but only a few watching these gems. However the real test of these songs is their longevity, that they are heard even 70 years after they were made. Today's songs do not last more than a few months at best.
