Dylan could have had Kelly at any time he wanted her, but he didn’t want her. Sparks were flying as soon as he met Brenda- even though it’s just a TV show, the two actors had great chemistry. They forced the love triangle thing to create drama, but Dylan and Kelly was never as good. They definitely felt forced together any time they tried to make it work.

@@buffysdavis3595 I think the characters of Brenda, Dylan, Brandon & Steve were pretty well written from the start. They were solid enough in their own right and we could understand their behaviour pretty well within all the drama. Once some of the actors made their demands known to the producers and somewhat forced the writers to adapt the storylines to their wishes, it went downhill, and it often felt ridiculous to the viewers. Dylan & Kelly, Donna's relationships/stories, Kelly becoming irresistible and wanna-be-edgy, a lot of it looked like it didn't really come from the writers' imagination but rather like they had to oblige. Brenda was the central character that made it all consistent.

I’m guessing the writers thought they were really on some thing. But it backfired on them big time.

The writers took the lazy way out.. Shannen wasn't showing up on time on set. They had to delay for hours. It was seen as unprofessional, inconsiderate and rude. It wasn't working out anymore. They wrote her off because of her conduct.
